The real shitstorm is gonna come when a woman, despite what I'm sure will be deployment schedules designed to keep female boots-on-the-ground soldiers as far from combat as possible, is captured alive by ISIS or some such group.

How's the media gonna handle it when it's a woman being raped and slowly tortured to death on camera? We've dealt with dozens of men having that exact thing happen to them, but a woman? So many groups will lose their precious little minds.

What do you do when someone is literally incapable of handling equal treatment and expectations?

[–]Griever114 21 points22 points23 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

They will move heaven and FUCKING EARTH to get that one woman back. Mean while, there are COUNTLESS male POW's across the globe suffering still.

[–]Mikeavelli 20 points21 points22 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It already happened. Yes, you're completely correct.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jessica_Lynch

Her subsequent recovery by U.S. Special Operations Forces on April 1, 2003, received considerable media coverage and was the first successful rescue of an American prisoner of war since Vietnam and the first ever of a woman.

[–]Griever114 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fucking. Figures.

[–]boringcarpets 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

dont forget all the fabrications about her heroism etc.

[–]fengpi 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Her hometown threw her a parade and the BBC was there. They were asking folks "You know her story was a fabrication, right?"

They didn't care.

[–]NixonForBreadsident 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fuck, the assholes were even trying to demonize the doctors and hospital staff who protected her.

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even though it ended up proving she was not captured as a heroine at all and most of what was reported was a lie. But by then we'd all forgotten.

[–]boringcarpets 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How's the media gonna handle it when it's a woman being raped and slowly tortured to death on camera?

"4 marines and one woman were captured..." followed by many stories about her life and how she was a mother/"great marine"/daughter/sister, nothing about the nameless faceless men

[–]dungone 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's obvious what will happen. Feminists will decry sexism in the military for allowing such an atrocity to happen to a woman. Obviously the Patriarchy at work, with all men, friend and foe alike, benefitting from the subjugation of women.

[–]baphometsayshi 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

this 100%

feminists won't blame the jihadi rapist ofc because it's "his culture". only the white male soldiers that were somehow responsible for protecting the female marine will be blamed.

[–]Rethgil 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are you kidding? You can't buy publicity for a ground invasion this would cause. Many politicians are probably backing these stupid changes HOPING this will be the result. War is big business, and there's nothing guaranteed to get citizens supporting war like telling them our women are being raped.

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ever seen Wag The Dog? The film with DeNiro and Hoffman? Update it by putting a woman in the captured soldier role, and there you go. The female population will give permission to drop nukes anywhere.

[–]real-boethius[S] 32 points33 points34 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"As long as they meet the same standards" they said.

Nope. Never.

[–]Rasalom72 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And the "same standards" will be so low as to be easily passable by the average man....

[–]NixonForBreadsident 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Take a look at the previous threads about exactly this on the various feminist subs or even /r/News.

Highly upvoted top comments were all justifying it with "they are specifically saying the standards won't be lowered, you MRA misogynists!"

[–]fengpi 18 points19 points20 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Who needs to know how to clean a rifle?

SHINY MEDALS! GIVE THEM TO WOMEN NOW!!1!

[–]McFeely_Smackup 14 points15 points16 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

The 55-year-old colonel went from zero to 17 pullups in less than one year, and is still going strong.

well, so much for it being an unreasonable standard.

[–]grissomza 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Right? She could literally be judged and scored on the same standard as a 55 year old male colonel.

[–]fullhalter 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, and lets not pretend that pullups are an unreasonable standard for female marines. This video shows a girl doing 20 dead hang pullups, so it's not like it's an unobtainable goal.

[–]reg8392748 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Those pullups are no good. You can't have a rhythmic motion like that. People are supposed to come to a dead hang between pullups.

[–]thatusenameistaken 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No, those are legit USMC regulation pullups. No swinging, no leg pumping. She'd only get a couple marked off if the scorer was an asshole or didn't like her, which does happen.

[–]reg8392748 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't agree, she's got a rhythm going, they never counted those when I did them.

[–]thatusenameistaken 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We must not be watching the same video, because I see her actually locking out at the bottom of each one. A rhythm only affects score if you're swinging or kipping with it, and she wasn't.

That, or you had one the aforementioned asshole scorers, or they didn't like you.

[–]jojotmagnifficent 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nah, they looked pretty god to me. What you are seeing was her legs moving to counterbalance her center of gravity, specifically STOPPING her swinging all over the place each rep. She might have had a tiny kip on a few of them, but they were pretty decent. Definitely not crossfit level flailing about.

[–]NotPCNeverWillBe -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She hung between each one and she nailed those pull-ups like a fucking boss. don't hate. If some women can do that shit, appreciate it. It makes the lazy whiners run out of excuses faster.

[–]iamnotfromtexas90 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"The Marines...the Few...the Proud...the Feminine"

[–]25russianbear25 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Very progressive. I heard they soon they wont shoot at female or other under privileged enemy combatants to kill, only to cripple.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Insanity. Next, they'll replace M16s with brick-filled handbags!

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As we all knew it would be.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So there should be no need for male marines either.

[–]ulthrant82 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Especially since we can pay the female marines 78% less. It's a no brainer.

[–]Black_caped_man 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

Pullups are an “equitable metric more related to combat skills such as casualty [evacuation],” and would “be a step toward removing reducing and eliminating the perceived double-standard that exists."

Wut

How is a double standard "percieved" when:

The plan would officially reverse a requirement announced by then-Commandant Gen. James Amos in late 2012 that women would soon be required to do at least three pullups to pass the PFT. Eight would needed for a max score, while men have to belt out 20.

Seriously, I'm not in too good upper body shape, I don't lift and the only training I do is biking for longer distances. Aerobic training that supposedly kills gains or whatever.

I could probably do three or four full pull ups, meaning from fully extended arms to a 90° angle (or a little smaller) and down to fully extended arms again. No sweat, no problem. And I'm pretty much a lazy SOB with a fair bit of unnecessary weight.

I thought the marines were supposed to be above average physical fitness?

Edit, so I got my exercises mixed up, point is I didn't do them half way.

[–]MindlessElectrons 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My friend just recently graduated from the Marines infantry school and told me about how he had to do 25 pull-ups as a punishment.

[–]Black_caped_man 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And the supposed average amount of pull-ups for women was 1,6...

I mean even when I was in my worst shape ever and weighed around 220 lbs (fat weight) I could still manage at least one or two pull ups.

What would a woman do if she received the punishment of pull ups? All of this just feels ridiculous.

[+]Quadrupol -11 points-10 points-9 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Pullup is to chin passing the bar. Not 90 degrees you pathetic cuck. Source: someone who can actually do 20 pullups

[–]Rasalom72 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Isn't a pullup palms facing away, while a chinup is palms facing towards? Also, a chin up is way easier then a pullup from my experience.

[–]Quadrupol -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes it is, but both requires the chin to be past the bar to count as a one rep. Chin passing the bar isn't why the chin up is called the chin up.

[–]Rasalom72 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed... I don't know why that guy figured 90 degrees or whatever was what counted.

Just making sure I had my terms correct. Cause pull ups are a bitch.

[–]Black_caped_man 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow, was there really need for name calling?

I may have gotten my description wrong but I think I made it pretty clear I'm not really at home with the technicalities of working out.

I mean geez man take a chill pill.

[–]dungone 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This seems like an issue of weak-willed Marine leadership. They let shitbag fatbody females in when they shouldn't have and now they're too afraid to kick them out. The damage by ridiculously low standards was already being done and every male Marine knows it.

[–]Terry_Bruce_Dick 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As a dude who regularly hangs with women who crank out way more pullups than I... this is bullshit.

[–]mafiaking1936 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That first picture isn't even a pull-up, but a chin-up.

[–]autotldr 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 89%. (I'm a bot)

Capt. Linda Vong demonstrates pullups at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va. Women could soon be required to complete several pullups to earn the maximum score on that portion of the physical fitness test.

Marine leaders have proposed a new physical fitness test that would still allow women to do the flexed-arm hang - but they're not likely to earn a first-class score without pullups.

The plan would officially reverse a requirement announced by then-Commandant Gen. James Amos in late 2012 that women would soon be required to do at least three pullups to pass the PFT. Eight would needed for a max score, while men have to belt out 20.

The plan would officially reverse a requirement announced by then-Commandant Gen. James Amos in late 2012 that women would soon be required to do at least three pullups to pass the PFT. Eight would needed for a max score, while men have to belt out 20. This was to end the era of the flexed-arm hang.

The plan never made it off the ground, though. Data collected in 2013 found that 55 percent of female recruits couldn’t meet the minimum requirement. A study of 318 female Marines found that the women could complete 1.63 pullups on average. Roughly 20 percent of those Marines could only hit three pullups if they used their lower bodies in a "kipping" motion.

Jesus Fucking Christ, is there a bigger indication that women simply are not interested in becoming military soldiers ?

There are plenty of fit women out there who can do three, full-on, pull-ups.

but fit and wanting to be a soldier ?

That seems to demonstrably not happening, so clearly we need to drop the standards, because nothing improves the quality and efficacy of an army than....weaker standards.

[–]DillipFayKick 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think men who can't do pull ups need to start suing the USMC to gain entry to the Marines.

[–]Urfeelsdntmatr 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just imagine if half the Marines in the battle of Chosin Valley were women. They would have all died. There would have been no 'attacking in the other direction' to reconnect with navel support at the beach.

Congratulations on being handicapped you once proud Marine Corps. It was done on purpose.
