So I read an SRSd post asking why MRAs aren't complaining about that sub, and shockingly enough, I actually think the SRSer raises a half-good point (the responses are bullshit though, surprise surprise we're all racists). Why aren't we pissed about /r/blackfathers?

If you haven't seen it before, the joke is that there's nothing there. Get it, cuz black kids don't have fathers--har har har!

Ok, just another dumb racist joke on the Internet, but I think this topic is worth talking about. Considering the disproportionate power women have over the whole family-starting process, the fact that unmarried mothers get custody by default, and the crazy incarceration rate among black men (especially during prime family-starting ages), it's pretty damned unfair to blame black fathers for the number of fatherless black kids in America (Barbarossaaaa did a video about some of this stuff if you're interested). It's typical though, holding men responsible for the other consequences of their own victimization--like blaming young men for a war that they were conscripted into.

As to why we're not up in arms about /r/blackfathers, I'd like to say that MRAs have bigger fish to fry than offensive Internet jokes, but considering the attention they garner on /MR (how many times have we seen that "women when sick/men when sick" comic reposted here?), I'm afraid we've lost that defense. Other than that, the only thing I can say is that I've always thought of /r/blackfathers primarily as a racist joke, and thus more of an anti-racism issue than an MRA issue. I dunno, what do you all think?

Edit: I really didn't mean to come off like we should get pissy about /r/blackfathers, or that we should defend our honor against SRS. Rather, the topic got me thinking, and I wanted to use it as a springboard to start a conversation on fatherlessness in the black community, the conditions that created the problem and the misandry surrounding how people respond to it. I'm fanatically against censorship, and launching a campaign against a joke is the absolute last thing I want to do here. If I see the conversation going that way I'll delete this post (but judging by the comments there's not much to worry about there). As for SRS, fuck them, end of topic.
