i knew a guy about 50 years of age, ex navy seal veteran, had so much trauma and ptsd that he never slept, day or night.... only time he slept was hen his wife was in the bed with him at the same time, he said that was the only time he felt safe enough to sleep..... its sad though his wife only needed him for money and to feed her 4 children from a previous marriage .... poor guy would always struggle when she'd leave the house at night when mad at him and he would stay up miserable and not able to sleep.

You don't need love to get these benefits. You can stimulate Oxytocin by:

Petting a dog (or any animal you like, doesn't even have to be yours. Hang out at a dog park.)
Various meditation techniques (not the empty-mind kind, but active visualization kind including gratitude meditation (count your blessings), and loving-kindness meditation (visualize others and wishing goodwill to them).
Self-massage. Rub your temples and such. Yep, it works, as long as you are actually creating a relaxing environment while you do it, and not treating like a drug fix and trying to hurry through it.
Hot shower or other activity that stimulates your skin while inviting relaxation.
Hang out with friends and do things with them. Any kind of positive experience, doesn't even have to be touchy-feely.
Relaxing music can do this too, from what I have read.

Hugs from your friends and family are just as effective. It’s all about connection with another human. This is a huge thing, especially for me. I'm a 'human teddy bear' kind of guy, I like touch and physical closeness whether it's platonic or romantic. I'm not attractive enough to get this outside of my family though, so I always feel hollow inside, like a part of me is missing.

At one point I spent a few months in a small, high trust community. People were much friendlier with each other and closer to each other. I became friends with a handful of women there that hugged me often, and over those few months my mental health improved a lot.

I wish that treating each other as human beings was a more common trait of communities.

I don't know what's become of this subreddit, but definitely nothing good. These photos carry similar energy of all those commercials that try to feminize men. There was a time in my life when I did a lot of team sports with men and we were outside and laughing our asses off. I didn't want to be held from a woman like a teddy bear.
