Well just based on that NPR article, he didn't say she was too distracting to be his producer. Allegedly, he said (it's mentioned that this happened in a car the night after she met him at his apartment, which I don't understand the significance of at all) that she was too distracting to be a producer... whatever that means. We have no idea what the actual sentence he said was or what the context was, and our only source of information is the accuser and a (female) journalist working for a left-leaning publisher.

I mean... sounds a lot like he was hitting on a woman as their professional relationship was ending. I've always found NDT to be very annoying for reasons I won't go into, so I'm guessing I'd also find him creepy if I was a woman and he was hitting on me, but it's not at all clear that he did anything that would be considered sexual harassment.

That story is really sad. She agreed to go to his home, and did not walk away even after WHAT SHE INTERPRETED as multiple examples of indication of interest from the awkward scientist. At this point, no awkward scientist will be allowed to get close to any female and try to get her attention because of #metoo.

Females are not responsible enough to not lead a guy (i.e. in hope for continuing her job on Cosmos she went to his apartment) nor they are responsible to walk away when the guy shows clear IoI (she did not leave when she saw the guy in a tank top when "she thought" this was a business meeting at his apartment late in the evening).

Prospects are looking grim for really smart guys that never spent time in their forming years learning not to be awkward around girls they are interested in.

13 year career in science/computers here. I have literally never conducted a business meeting one-on-one in a hotel room after 6pm.

With a group, in a public place, I have on many occasions (after-hours meeting at a conference organizers over dinner).

With a group, in a private place, I have on <5 occasions (conference organizers' room, committee present).

With an individual, I have conducted after-hours meetings at the bar (counseling sessions, mostly, both directions).

One on one in a home or hotel room? Literally never. After dark? Double-never.

I keep seeing these things where people go to one-on-one meetings in hotel rooms after dark. In one of these examples (recorded!), Weinstein locks the door as the first action. The woman in question stays in the hotel room?! Not saying that Weinstein isn't to blame here (WTF?!?!), but, on principle, even as a guy, I'm not taking one-on-one meetings in a hotel room after dark. If you lock me in within the first 5 seconds, I'm leaving and going to start readying weapons in the event of resistance.

In this instance - she went to his home for one-on-one wine after dark. Then complains when he doesn't ask for a hug because he implied he would want more? And that is the allegation? Gimme a break. This is so far from "sexual misconduct in the workplace" it isn't funny.

Yes, science (small s) is very important but that's not what we have. Modern day Science (big S) is held back by assumptions that often go back centuries and cause Scientists to believe that we already have the answers defined for the most fundamental questions. I do not believe that this is true.

The dogmas, as detailed by Dr. Rupert Sheldrake, are as follows:

1.Everything is essentially mechanical. Dogs, for example, are complex mechanisms, rather than living organisms with goals of their own. Even people are machines, ‘lumbering robots’, in Richard Dawkins’s vivid phrase, with brains that are like genetically programmed computers.

2.All matter is unconscious. It has no inner life or subjectivity or point of view. Even human consciousness is an illusion produced by the material activities of brains.

3.The total amount of matter and energy is always the same (with the exception of the Big Bang, when all the matter and energy of the universe suddenly appeared).

4.The laws of nature are fixed. They are the same today as they were at the beginning, and they will stay the same for ever.

5.Nature is purposeless, and evolution has no goal or direction.

6.All biological inheritance is material, carried in the genetic material, DNA, and in other material structures.

7.Minds are inside heads and are nothing but the activities of brains. When you look at a tree, the image of the tree you are seeing is not ‘out there’, where it seems to be, but inside your brain.

8.Memories are stored as material traces in brains and are wiped out at death.

9.Unexplained phenomena like telepathy are illusory.

10.Mechanistic medicine is the only kind that really works
