If women deserve their own personal selection of what gender by which they'll be tested/examined, then so do men. Privacy is a two way street (or at least, it SHOULD be).

There are indeed double standards that favor women in healthcare, and it will never change. That’s because so much of the field is dominated by women. If you need a testicular ultrasound, the tech will likely be a woman. If you see a urologist, the chaperone will likely be a female, and the nurses will be female. They won’t ask you if you care. I saw females peek under the sheet of asleep male patients to “check them out”; I saw jokes made about male patients that would never be tolerated against female patients; I have seen males asked to drop their drawers, no gown offered, in front of a group of female medical students. I saw a female nurse brag about a photograph of a male patient that she took on her phone because he was well-endowed; she showed other nurses the photo in the OR! I was shocked and when I called her out on it, she just laughed. Male modesty means nothing to them. Female modesty is enforced with fierce repercussions for the slightest infraction.

As a woman I prefer male ob/gyn. They are kinder and more gentle usually, and generally take you serious when you have a complaint. They are clear on verbalizing when they touch you so that you know what to expect.
Obviously it's a delicate subject and I can understand why some women would prefer women docs. But my experience has always been better when visiting a male doctor.

As for the double standard I completely agree that you (anyone) should be able to decide who sees or touches your body. Student or no that man has a right to say no. Period.

Post is now deleted so I can't see what it actually said. But it seems like most of the top comments are from physicians and that OP was also a doc. And that's what they are upset about 🤷🏻‍♀️. There are many comments suggesting that he has the right to say no to female med student.

It's pretty obvious those comments are from buttblasted femcels based on how they write but at least most of them seem to be criticizing him for reasons other than rejecting the female student (though the other reasons seem to just be excuses). I wouldn't bother.

His wife, however, seems to be a creep who thinks she (and women alone) is entitled to look at naked men just because she is female (if what he wrote is true). He should be wary of her.

Men are not offered any such option. The field is dominated by women. If you asked, they would roll their eyes and make fun of you. Most likely they could not find a male or group of males to do the job so you’re stuck.

Been through this myself. I was admitted to a hospital a couple of years ago and I specifically requested for male nurses. The request was, of course, denied and I was made out the villain for it.

Reading OOP’s comment history it really seems like he has a good head on his shoulders and isn’t caving in to the femcel BS.

Most of the top comments say NTA for being fine with a gender preference, which is pretty hopeful, I think. There’s still a lot of progress to be made, but I’m glad some progress has been made.

The real problem lies in the people thinking it’s sexist to expect a male student, as well as the wife (for being entitled) and the doctor (not asking if the patient has a gender preference).

I think it's completely fine for a woman to want a female gynaecologist and a man to want a male urologist. I don't think there is anything sexist about it.

However, I do think it awful sexist when some feminists claim that it is somehow creepy or perverted for a man to want to be a gynaecologist. Those types can just get in the bin, imo.

Perfectly fine, I agree! A few years ago, I had to go to the doctor because I seriously thought I might have breast cancer. Though my doctor is the best, he is such a wonderful guy, I was so uncomfortable when he was checking and I almost started crying lol. Fortunately it was only a little lump due to high estrogen levels. I’d have preferred a lady but if I had no choice it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. Everyone should be able to choose whether they want a male or female doctor/specialist without being criticized and shamed and women shouldn’t be treating male doctors as creeps because they are uncomfortable with them.

I remember I had a female "trauma care specialist" in the hospital try to get me to undress so she could examine me. Her excuse was she was looking for "self harm marks" while she wanted me to recount and "traumatic experiences" in my life. I told her politely that I wanted a male physician to do that. She took that as an insult. She didn't understand that I didn't think she was incapable but rather that I was uncomfortable with her performing it because I was assaulted and abused by women. I informed her that I would wait as long as it took to get a male doctor (since this was late at night) but I didn't want her or her assistant to do it.

After telling her that I was uncomfortable for that reason her response was to threaten to have me involuntarily committed.

Everyone should be able to decide who their attending doctor is especially with topics like this.

I do think patients preferences should be taken into consideration when possible. For me, I prefer male on all fronts, except for a massage, but will make an appointment with a female doctor if necessary. I also would rather have an older doctor than a younger one as well.

Just read the top 3 comments and it's the usual arguments.

"You're the asshole... You're a misogynist for saying "I don't want random women looking at my junk"" - Physician or not, she is a random woman, random, in this context, being an unknown person. Apparently it's misogynistic and degrading not to want a woman you don't know to look at your junk. It's okay to not want a man you don't know to look at your privates. Also "as a physician, your use of the word junk is unsettling" - how is that at all relevant or important? This is also a reddit thread, not a formal letter to upper management.
"You're the asshole for expecting a med student to be male" - I think context matters, and I think expecting a urologist to be male is a normal expectation. I wouldn't be comfortable around a female med student or doctor when it came to my genitals. I just instinctively feel more comfortable with a male doctor to look at my junk, and so I'd probably expect that to be the case for many men and therefore expect male urologists to be the standard expectation.
"how many women have had their junk prodded, probed and displayed?" - this is the one I hate the most because I see it all the time, especially surrounding men's issues. Men's issue is [x], "Yeah, but women have [y]!". Anything that is a men's issue they immediately take it as some sort of personal threat and they absolutely love using red herring arguments. If you continue arguing that, they will just continue moving the goalpost. They're in so much denial some times that they've convinced themselves or their own lies. They just can't fathom that men also have issues.

Didn't read anymore after this, it's just pathetic to say the least. You just know by reading the comments in their entirety that the people who wrote them certainly have biases, prejudices and double standards.

Or just, you know, maybe accept that medical personnel's job is to see people in all kinds of circumstances, they're not there because they enjoy watching or touching people but because they want to help, and the direction we should be going is to not care what your doctor or nurse has between their legs. People are so fucking backwards sometimes and they somehow still manage to call it progressive.

Are there idiots and creeps? Sure, such a position attracts both psychopaths and narcissists, but the solution isn't to go backwards, become paranoid and assume a doctor enjoys watching your ugly ass or a nurse enjoys wiping it after you shit yourself in the bed, and that's not even the worst they have to do all the time. The prudery among people who care if men or women help them are incredible and it stinks of the USA's fake Christian mindset.

The proliferation and tolerance of snowflakes is what is astounding. Life has many uncomfortable moments. You can suck it up and be briefly uncomfortable, allowing both yourself and everyone else to go on with their day promptly and their job unobstructed, or you can make it all about you and your extra special feelings that you demand other people cater to.

This is not personal weakness. It is arrogance and passive aggression.

I understand the women. I had to get my junk looked at one time by my doctor and it made me really uncomfortable to have another man looking at my shit. Wish it would have been a woman.
