There's an enormous amount of misinformation propagated in the USA about circumcision. Lots of Americans think the procedure makes them more or less immune to STDs or that cleaning intact penises is next to impossible.
Circumsized people often defend it to cope with it.

Rationalisation. They'd rather tell themselves they're better off that way than to admit they've been violated pretty brutally (cause circumcision ain't that fun for the baby). Pretty sure if they'd be strapped down as adults and had their foreskin cut off without anaesthesia they wouldn't be so cool with it, but since they've been like that as long as they remember, they tell themselves "women like it better that way", even though the only reason this may be true, would be because they're used to circumcised dicks. Ask women in Europe and they'll prefer an intact penis. For Muslims and Jews it's religion/peer pressure.

It's easier to buy into the illusion that it's a good thing than it is to admit to yourself that you paid a man to sexually assault your son, leaving him with a permanent scar in his most sensitive and personal area, forever reminding him what you've done to him.

It's pretty much human nature. You won't get too many men saying there is anything wrong with their willies. That's not a place they want to go. Understandably.

Even quite a few feminists - not all, but still quite a lot - are defenders of the notion of bodily integrity for children (and adults) so the only answer I can think of immediately is: religion.

Both Jews and Muslims practice male circumcision - the practice is also well-known in certain African communities (and no doubt elsewhere) as part of a coming-of-age ceremony.

Yes it's true some women have apparently expressed a preference for circumcised over uncircumcised penises, but I doubt that's much more than anecdotal evidence from newspaper and magazine op eds.

Anything normalized long enough will have people defending it when others point out what's wrong with it. Even if it's objective arguments.

I've said it before, but if we started removing our eyelids, I'm sure our bodies would eventually adapt to it. And in some decades, we will have people adamantly defending the practice for all sorts of absurd reasons.

There's a reason that the defense of MGM and FGM are so similar, because they are born from the same places. Ignorance.

Add in the denial from those affected. It's clear a lot of people who defend it so adamantly and find their way here to do so, have simply convinced themselves out of necessity that it's fine.

People get so defensive if you call it like it is. Genital mutilation. It by definition is mutilation of the genitals. There is no way it isn't, unless you redefine words to suit your needs. But some people take great offense to being called mutilated. Then they accuse you of using emotionally charged/manipulative language.

They take such offense to being called mutilated, because it's holding up a mirror. They know, they just don't want to deal with it. They always end up assuming I'm uncut when I tell them it's mutilation too. I can acknowledge my mutilation and go about life. They could too, but it's easier to just double down.

It's just a shame they double down by mutilating their own kids.

I'm personally happy i got circumcised because (as a straight man) I do like the look of it better when it's snipped. I don't remember it ever happening to me, so I'm good.

On the other hand, no it should not be basically automatic to every male child.

On the other, other hand, the kid will never remember it, but then again the kid didn't have a choice in the matter.

I don't really know, I'm on the fence. I'm glad I was circumcised, but I can see why people would say it shouldn't happen. I believe a solution is to make the kid decide at 18 years old if not earlier.

For men it's called circumcision and for women it's called genital mutilation despite the fact that they're essentially the same process.

I am not circumcised. My mother had enough respect for her child to let me make an informed choice on whether I wanted part of my dick cut off or not. This feels to be somewhat of an exception when it comes to American boys. The 'reasons' for circumcision are numerous, after all, such as it 'looks nicer' to women, or the (DEBUNKED) claim that it protects against AIDs and other STDs.

If you're circumcised, I can absolutely understand why you might be against those who are against circumcision. Think about it this way - much in the same way that we don't like to be in the presence for us for things about us that are out of control - such as height, race, and gender, most men who are circumcised were circumcised soon after they were born - far, far too early to determine whether or not they wanted to have their genitals mutilated. I could potentially see that some of these men may see an attack on the practice of circumcision as being a personal attack on them, which it certainly is not.

It's kinda like they're saying that having their rights infringed upon is okay as long as it pleases women.

Men will go to great lengths in order to please women. Very, very great lengths. This fact is ingrained in human evolution. We can see evidence of this in how a woman crying near a man will lower his testosterone and influence his own hormones. On top of that, women are the gatekeepers of sex. Except in cases of legitimate rape, it is the woman who decides whether or not she will allow sex to occur. (In retrospect: Men can also serve as gatekeepers to their own sexuality, but such situations are seen as less likely to happen.) More to the point, some men are just... Well, for a lack of a better word, shallow. They respect the demands and desires of women more than the bodily autonomy of infant boys.

People defend it because it they realised how horrific it actually is, they would feel... guilt. So they justify it in their minds, latching onto any justification.

They are trying to rationalize it away. Why can vary from person to person. Some people don't want to see themselves as having been wronged, lets face it men are not allowed to be victims even when they are. Society at large doesn't take kindly to male victims of anything.

If a man wants to get it done, or if it has to be done to a male during his life, those are different matters. To clarify, I am against routine infant circumcision--that is mutilation. If someone wants it done, for whatever reason, that's a body mod or medically necessary procedure. If a young male needs it done for a medically necessary procedure, it is a medically necessary procedure.

Reduce risk of penile cancer. - The incidence of penile cancer is about 1 in 100,000 in the US. By one estimate, the lifetime risk for an uncircumcised man in the US is 1 in 600. The 5 year survival rate is about 65%. Penile cancer is almost never seen in circumcised men

Reduced risk of UTI. - Several studies have shown that circumcised baby boys have fewer UTIs but the reduction is small

Prevents phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin) and paraphimosis (a painful inability to pull the retracted foreskin back down). - Paraphimosis can obstruct urine and blood flow and is a medical emergency.

About 10% of uncircumcised infants will require circumcision later in life for medical reasons. Adult circumcision is more expensive, more difficult, riskier, requires stitches, and causes more suffering than neonatal circumcision. The conditions that lead to the medical necessity for circumcision also cause suffering that would have been avoided by neonatal circumcision.
