I think women can be celibate and happy, but if you're using (overwhelmingly male) clergy as your standard bearer, then it seem they turn to pederasty as a loop hole.

Yes, people can be celibate and remain happy. Sex isn’t the only way that someone can feel fulfilled or accomplished. There are plenty of other ways to do that, like volunteering, traveling, learning an instrument, “finding yourself,” writing a book, etc.

Sex is a desire, not a necessity, though it may feel like it is to some people.

the clergy definitely have a chance to get close to a lot of people.. people just dying to come to you and tell you their most personal problems. you could basically be friends with them if you weren't the type that feels the need to distance yourself from your 'flock'.

but all that closeness can lead to problems keeping the celibacy thing going. if that's really the priority you could always try monkhood of course. monks can be supportive of one another i'm sure.

It’s why even though MGTOW men claim to want to go their own way, a lot of them still seek at least casual sex with women. Or fuck hookers. And then try to convince us that even though they’re dependent on women for sex, they’re still “going their own way”. Lol.

I'm celibate atm. Not really being forced to be, nor am I specifically choosing to be, it's just the way life's going for me up till now. I have plenty of enjoyment. I engage in my hobbies and spend time with my dog, my friends, and my family. I'm also trying to improve myself. I'd like things to change in the future, but my current state is by no means an incel-esque hell of mental anguish.

Unless you have a reason of spiritual superiority for doing so (e.g., the priesthood), I must imagine it's harder than ever before to be content with involuntary celibacy in a society that shoves sex down our throats every minute of the day.

It comes down to choice. If you choose to be celibate (i.e. you legitimately think being celibate is your best or part of your best option) then you can be happy. If you're celibate unwillingly though, that's when it gets rough.

So for the non-pedophile clergy, never having sex is a reasonable bargain for thier position, to get into heaven, to serve the community etc. For a lay woman, the issue is probably that the sex she can get isn't worth the effort and/or sex can be a huge risk that she is not keen on taking. For a lay man oftentimes it's that he is simply incapable of getting sex whether he wants it or not, and that level of powerlessness drives people crazy.

I used to be a sexual deviant, after I lost hope in romance I actually fucked every girl with an ounce of interest in me. I even had threesomes, foursomes, and even let my guy friends that weren't so good with women come in and have a turn. I was literally fucking my pain away, and believe it or not, the ladies were okay with it since I was actually good at pleasing them too.

But I wanted more, I want a career for myself and not just an average one. With my skill set and experience I could see myself going for CEO of a fortune 500 one day. I have that vision for myself at least, so i'm sacrificing the old me to build a new one. I don't party, drink, or have sex with any lady anymore. Though I still get messages from old flames about getting back in the sack, I already made the conscious decision not to. Because I have a goal that I'm aiming for, and its fulfilling for me. I would say that yes, it's possible to be celibate and happy.
