There should be absolutely NO suspension or any punishments coming from the colleges.

Rape is a criminal offense, you are guilty you go to fucking jail. But the law considers you innocent until proven guilty.

The article addresses how and why sexual assault victims can be reluctant to confess about the crimes against them.

You do not fucking scrap justice system just because of some woman's feelings.

I think it would be more conducive to a productive debate and discussion if you were to focus your thoughts and writings into a more cohesive point or series of points. At the moment it seems like you're outraged over these few articles, are applying their insights to society as a whole, and then looking for a fight wherever you might find it. I can't see why the hell the university is involved at all.

When a serious crime such as rape occurs, that's a matter for the police and the criminal justice system. The university administration should play no role except giving the authorities whatever they need in order to investigate.

Universities don't need a rape policy any more than they need a murder policy.

"Rape culture" isn't a thing, especially on post-secondary campuses. Anyone who alleges "rape culture" is a prime candidate for not being taken seriously whenever they try to start talking about rape as an issue or gender relations when it comes to sex.

This is all you holding forth, you realize. I say that the main issue is around evidence/lack of evidence more then anything else.

It's nice for third/fourth wavers to try and create this alternate reality where "society is on the side of the rapist and hates the victim" but that alternate reality is just ludicrous, to put it plainly. Rolling Stone is sadly very "progressive"/socio-culturally far left when it comes to issues like this, so of course they are going to take a particular position as far as the issue goes on campuses.

Well, the fact that you believe "rape culture" to be an actual thing says a lot about your living in your own alternate reality that doesn't correspond with how things actually are. I can say that I reject, absolutely, any kind of red-pill style delusion on par with the sort of thing that comes out of the third/fourth wave feminist movement, but the fact is that "rape hysteria" and false accusations of rape, as well as this precedent that's being pushed where "if a woman says she was raped, it must be true", are all extremely problematic.

What's sexual assault being defined as here? Because depending on where you go it can be forced kissing or a smack on the ass. How many of those "assaults" are forcible rapes, because I highly doubt that Canadian parents would send their daughters to rape factories where she has a one in four chance of being raped.

Besides linking to other equally academic studies your hamlin study only has a mere test group of 52 upper division students. Your other source is a single mishandled incident that is more reflective of sensationalist journalism, than reflecting on a real trend occurring on college campuses.

Rape culture does not exist. Even the advisory group for equality and women's issues to the white house says rape culture doesn't exist. No one thinks rape is ok. Being convicted of sexual assault is esentially social suicide and your reputation will be permanently tarnished. It's practically worse than any other crime save for mass murder.

The issue at hand is, A) that sexual assault is defined as 'any interaction a woman finds unpleasant', and B) no one is allowed to question whether or not a legitimate assault was committed or whether she made decisions she now regrets and has convinced herself after the fact that she didn't actually want that happening in the first place.

Rape is a serious crime, it should be treated as such. You wouldn't want a murder to be handled by a university that can only deal out suspensions and expulsions would you? Why should rape be any differently? People shouldn't be pushing universities to handle rape because it isn't an issue that they can handle.

I think referring rape incidents to police is the correct response. Suspensions are way too lenient for rape perpetrators, and having the campuses handle disciplinary hearings over rape accusations also risks punishing innocent students because they don't have the same protections for the accused.

Seriously, how often is this stuff happening outside the Greek system? Now there's this yes means yes bullshit in California, which applies to everyone, even though we all know what's actually up.

A group of people who organize torment for new members' initiation. Am I talking about a college fraternity or a street gang? So far, there's no distinction. This group is huge on loyalty, and to testify against the group in court would not only ruin one's reputation, but also could endanger them, as members of the group may attack them later on. Any distinction yet? They're mostly well off, white, college students. Oh, okay, we're not talking about a street gang, just the wealthy analogue found in the Greek life system.

Rape Culture:

A feminist agenda that focuses on rape, victimization of women and demonization of men. The word 'rape' has been bastardized and marginalized to mean anything from sex a woman regrets later, to sex that is even mildly uncomfortable. Lowering and broadening the definitions of rape allows more women to feel victimized, which in turn fuels feminism and offers further proof that men need to be controlled by women.
