I mean you can say the same about having friends, my main group wants to have tea at a lovely venue soon that's gonna cost us like $100 each. I used to blow more money each month on a fucking gacha game. I like this a lot more because human connection and meaningful experiences stick with me.

I open the game I lowkey whaled and cringe at how much I spent on these fucking jpegs whose skills are now museum pieces by the standards of the current meta. Oh and at literally at any time the devs can announce that it's been a great however many years but they're pulling the plug and all of your money is down the shitter even more than it already was.

You don’t have to date until you feel ready. If you have a busy, full life it’s okay to stay single or take time to focus on your career. You shouldn’t feel pressured to date until you decide it’s time.

People generally don’t date or marry because it’s a good financial move, although sometimes it can be, that shouldn’t be your primary reason. You do it because you love the person and want to build a life together. Having kids costs a fuck ton of money so while it costs a lot financially, my life is richer emotionally. To me, the trade off is worth it. You have to decide what you value and what you want your life to look like.

I don’t know about you, but I have always found myself to save money when I’m in a relationship. You can typically split the rent 50-50 unless you are dating a mooch, which I absolutely did for a while. But whenever I have dated men that contributed equally, it has been a financial gain for me. And for them.

Obviously, this would be different if you own your home and aren’t renting or if you live with your parents or something. But if you’re an average renter in the United States, it’s definitely cheaper to live with a partner and split the bills. Even if the initial cost of dating does bump up your entertainment budget… If you are actually dating with purpose and the intention to find a good partner, and eventually live with them, I think it’s a reasonable investment.

And you can be in a relationship while not spending much past the occasional luxury… spending an enormous amount isn’t a requirement for a relationship

Oh definitely. I mean, it's not to keep a casual connect or FWB to go out and do things with but you don't have the same obligations and can do your own thing otherwise.

I think it depends on the person, but yeah, someone like you whose solo spending style is pretty minimal will probably tend to find themself spending more when in a relationship. I know some people spend more when single though as they get bored more easily and end up doing more activities, etc. to keep themselves busy and amused. You kind of have to know yourself.

The issue is not one of incentive, but of finance. For example after my first divorce, I knew I wanted to get remarried. Despite spending a sizeable amount on the divorce, and fighting for 50-50 custody. The primary reason? I wanted more kids.

Dating by far requires less of an investment. It is that simple.

Based on what you described, it doesn't sound like you're particularly social.

It sounds like you did more things with your girlfriend than you do alone.

Most people I know, have active social lives. So money is spent on outings with friends or romantic partners.
