Hello TPP,

AS the title suggests, I wanna start a discussion about the word shallow which gets tossed around a lot.

I just have two questions for you guys:

i.) what does shallow mean? ii.) can you outline the difference between being shallow and stating your preferences.

I asked these because a friend of mine blatantly blurted out that he would never date a girl in our class, who had half of her face burnt, right in front of her.

Predictably, it really hurt her and she immediately left our seminar room crying. Admittedly, this was a major dick move and everyone(myself included) verbally castrated him for it and he was genuinely remorseful.

Here's the interesting part. After about a few minutes of us berating him, I say simply say "well dude you really shouldn't have said it in her presence" ...... then this exchange happens:

Student 1: he's so shallow

Me: what do you mean?

ST1: judging her by her appearance

Me: well .... he did say he wouldn't date her...... not judging her

ST2: gasp birds of the same feather ....

Me: wut?..... I don't grab, what's wrong with not wanting to date someone with a burnt face

ST1: It's shallow,that's what's wrong

ST2: would you like it if someone said that to you?

Me: Of course not but that's their choice .... Doesn't appearance matter?

ST2: Appearance shouldn't be everything

Me: but doesn't it matter?

ST1: wow .... whatever rolls eyes

End covo

NB: ST1 was a porker so no surprise but ST2 was a legit 8, both girls, late teens.

There are other parts of the convo but I shortened it a bit.

Discuss.

EDIT:Holy crap I realize what he did was a major dick move and we're all making sure that he's never gonna live it down but can we please focus on the question
