So this rugby/NFL player is being accused of rape and a civil suit has been filed against him.

Jarryd Hayne, the Australian rugby-league player who spent 2015 with the 49ers, has been accused of rape in a civil lawsuit filed Tuesday in Santa Clara County.

The suit alleges Hayne engaged in nonconsensual sexual intercourse with a “Ms. V” in December 2015, according to attorney John Clune.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the criminal case and rejected it for insufficient evidence on Oct. 25, 2016, but declined to elaborate further.

The lawsuit says that Ms. V was a virgin at the time and was afraid to come forward for several months, and eventually sought medical treatment for continued vaginal pain in April 2016.

According to the suit she was drunk and a virgin and the sex hurt. He tore her up.

What I found most interesting is the prosecution's argument that virginal women are too impressionable to consent (among other things of course.)

“The victim was a young impressionable woman out with friends in a location and environment she thought she could trust only to find that Mr. Hayne used her level of intoxication and his physical stature to deprive her of the ability to make a personal decision about whether or not she wanted to have sex,” Liberty said. “As a result, she suffered greatly emotionally and physically.”

I want to focus on the assertion that virginal women are impressionable, especially by men of his stature. Is this specific argument legitimate?

The funny thing is, I agree with the prosecution that virgins are impressionable but don't agree that assertion is legitimate enough to support a claim of rape. In your experience with virginal women, are they more impressionable and therefore easier to sleep with? What are your experiences with virginal women? Should a woman's innocence and naivety be legitimate arguments to support a rape charge accusation?

Or is this another case of society treating women like children, shifting the blame for a woman's ignorance onto men?
