Personally I don't really have a strong position on porn ether way.

That said, the guy writing the article that OP links to is ether a crook or a moron and considering his position I doubt he is a moron.

First he throws out a huge chunk of the data and decides to only use 3 particular studies for his analysis. That can be a legitimate move to drown out some noise and only focus on the "best data" but in this case we will soon see why it's not the case.

First study 1992: "asked whether they’d had trouble maintaining or achieving an erection any time in the last year"

Modern study 2012: "asked whether they’d had trouble getting or keeping an erection for a period of three or more months during the last year"

That is not comparing apples to oranges, that is comparing apples to a jumbojet.

Oh and it's from a different country to boot. And it also doesn't even specify the same age ranges.

Next he goes on to conclude:

"Although these data were collected in different Western countries and the question wording differed, it’s striking how similar the figures are considering that the data were collected 20 years apart. This suggests that perhaps rates of ED aren’t on the rise among young men after all. "

No dumbass, the questions are not "worded differently", they are completely different questions. One asked whether over the course of the last year at any point did you have trouble getting it up. (so includes when you were drunk, sick, just wanked three times in a row, whatever) And the other asked whether you had a persistent problem of erectile dysfunction over a period of three months or more.

That is buzzfeed level, not science.

Then he compounds on the hilarity by bringing up his third study:

2009: "asked whether they’d experienced any erectile difficulties the last time they had sex"

"last time they had sex" <---->"ever had in the last year"

I don't even have to mock that one. It does the job itself.

As a final note that study is from 2009, that is almost 10 years ago, before the ubiquitous availability of free high quality porn piped directly into everyone's bedroom.

That is like asking "gee I wonder what the effect of everyone using touch screen fones on carpel tunnel incidence is? then using a study from 2005 when most people did not have touch screen fones to base your study on.

I think the problem is these days most people don't read critically nor think for themselves. They just absorb anything from someone dressed in a lab coat that tells them what they want to hear.

And again I don't care about porn, it's just that what passes for "science" these days pisses me the fuck off.

I think it causes you to be lazy and women end up not comparing to porn. Unless you death grip the poor guy, I don’t think there are performance aspects related to its usage.

porn use no, porn overuse/abuse and addiction. yes. i think anyone think we can all agree the guy who watches a vid once a week and jerks off isn't likely to experience any porn related issues. however the dude who watches videos and jerks off everyday? hmm probably. besides the common sense factor. this article doesn't actually disprove anything it simply opens the conversation with a clear lack of evidence either way.

Not true, most people who stop porn for very long period have much higher arousal, and easier erection.
