Possibly different according to age but my partner and I do not have "couples" pfps on any of the few sites we bother with.

I have never given this particular thing any thought one way or the other.

No thoughts. It can show they love their partner a lot. It can show they love this picture. It can show they are very proud of their partner and want to show off. It can show they have no personality and live only through their couples. So in short... its just a picture on social media.

It just seems like an individual preference thing to me. I personally think that it’s a bit cheesy, but I don’t have a stronger opinion about it than that.

I don't think you will find any consistency here. I took a look at some friends I know are in pretty good relationship:

couple 1: she in alone in her pfp, he is with his wife and kid, both have picture of their family on their profile
couple 2: she is with her husband in her pfp, he is with his wife in his pfp, most pictures are with them together on their pages
couple 3: both alone in their pfps, both have pictures of them together on their pages
couple 4: he has a picture with his wife as a pfp, but hasn't posted anything new for the last 4 years. she also has a picture with her husband as pfp, and post about 10 pictures (some her alone, some with her husband) per year
couple 5: she has a picture with their kid as pfp, he is alone in his pfp (but wasn't changes for at least 5 years). both post pictures of their family from time to time.

When a woman doesn't post pictures with her partner on public social media at all but has a lot of personal photos or photos with other people that's an alarming sign IMO, because she may do that to intentionally present herself as available for advances of other men.

On the other hand, if she shows her BF/husband to everyone that means she's not ashamed of him and gives rest of the men clear message that she's taken and not looking for options.

Men though... I don't know, we rarely even have photos of ourselves that were not mandatory for whatever reasons. About 80% of my male friends and acquaintances don't have their own photos anywhere on profile, while out of women I know and come in contact with only three never post themselves. Personally I have no photos outside of online dating profiles.

I don't think it says much, it's just a personal preference. I've known both good and bad couples to have each. Often people just want to make it clear which person they are by having an individual picture or just really like a picture with someone else in it, which doesn't say a thing about the quality of their relationship. My profiles are usually a picture of just me, because my account is just mine, although I currently do have my favourite wedding photo up as my Facebook and Instagram.

And some people have no problem with public display of affection while others are more reserved. Some people haven't changed their pfp since 2015, some post everything they do lol. It all just mean people have different personalities.

We have one account and it is a picture of us. We're not big social media people. It's used for family living far away and close friends. There's no real reason to have 2 accounts.

There are positive benefits that can come from having your partner in your profile picture with you, and I do frequently employ this strategy to reap the benefits;

My partner and I are long distance in separate countries, and are currently undergoing a visa petition process so we can live together - it’s not unheard of in the adjudication process for immigration officials to take a look at the social media profiles of individuals to appraise the validity of the relationship. Having it in the profile picture is an easy way to make it clear that you are in said relationship if and when this occurs.

As a woman, I also find that I don’t receive unsolicited messages from men trying to hit on me when I have a picture of me and my partner in a relationship, though I often receive them when I don’t.

I’m also not a person who takes a lot of time taking profile pic worthy pictures of myself. However, when I’m with my partner, I’m taking photos of us together for photo albums and pictures to put up in our home, so I tend to be much happier with the way I look in these pictures, as I take the time and care to make sure I am. The profile pic I use now is literally from a professional family photoshoot.

Haven't noticed them being more or less happy than any other couple. I've dated people who had a picture of us as their profile pic, would post lovey-dovey stuff all the time, and they still cheated. My partner doesn't post any pictures of us on social media but he's an incredible guy. I post a lot of pictures and stories of us together but I tend to post a lot of stories of our cat as well, I just enjoy sharing cute/fun stuff with my friends, he'll just dm people pics of us and the cat.

Then again, we are in our 30s, and I remember how dramatic posts and pfps can be for an early 20-something, so there is most likely some difference between the age groups.

Either they are really commited and they are one unseparable unit which is great or it could be the case of showing of and predending on the internet... It depends, could be both.

But generaly my first thought is positive.
