Wearing hair down

Your hair doesn’t have to be in a fixed state once you style it. What I mean is, if you are cleaning something or taking care of baby, throw your hair back with a claw clip or a loose bun/ponytail, do what you need to do, then take it out. You still get to wear your hair down when you want to, but can have the ease of taking your hair out of your face.

Also, hair falling down just happens, it’s a part of life. What is your concern about it?

lol I don't think Mrs. Midwest actually wears her hair down every time she does housework. It's youtube not real life.

I wonder if half up half down is more practical, at least your hair will be out of your face.

I like to do overnight curls using strips of fabric, it takes five minutes and gives me very nice lasting curls for my waist long hair. During the day I wear my hair down, but use a large clip to get it out of the way when cleaning requires and of course when cooking. One thing that helps this is that I curl it all in the same direction, so I can twist it all together in a bun and the curls will keep. But I like the princess-y doll look that kind of curl gives me, it’s not for everyone however!

Mrs. Midwest is making aspirational videos for people. She’s doing her hair first and putting up with it if it is annoying because her job is looking good.

My hair is short- we all just have to accommodate our lives and preferences. I can’t have long hair down and bugging me and also be a functional human. 🤷🏼‍♀️

And I also deal with WAY less hair everywhere! It’s a win win for me.

Youtube and Instagram is not real life. I always put my hair up for cooking because keeping it down while handling food is just unsanitary (no one wants to find a hair in their pie). I also don't have my hair down around the baby, or else he will get ahold of a nice chunk every chance he gets.

Hair falling out just happens. It’s related to hormones so if you had a baby you probably are losing lots more than usual. You’ll lose hair whether you pull it back or not.

Sometimes loose hairs can get around baby’s fingers or toes (that’s happened to me at least). So that’s up to you. You can try and brush your hair out in the shower and see if that makes a difference.

I’m weird and just can’t stand hair in my face. I finally cut it rather short (in a style my husband still thinks is feminine).

I'm four months postpartum and the shedding is UNREAL. It's so bad. Like clumps. I've trimmed it and it didn't help either. Supposedly the peak of hair loss is 4m but we'll see. I second the big claw clip. I love Mrs Midwest too. I remember her mentioning claw clips as a safer alternative to hair bands too.

If it's impractical, then don't do it. There's nothing wrong with wearing it up, if it improves productivity and efficiency.

First of all, if your hair is falling out, those strands that in the shedding phase are going to shed no matter how your hair is styled. If you wear it up, you just don't see it and those strands probably fall out in the shower.

There are three stages of hair growth that every hair follicle goes through. The first is anagen, when the hair is actively growing. The second phase is categen, when the follicle is "resting", and the third stage is telogen, when the hair falls out. About 80% of our follicles are in the anagen stage, and the other 20% are in categen or telogen.

The cycle is not impacted by wearing your hair up (unless it's way too tight, and this can cause what's called traction alopecia) or down. The hair loss will occur no matter what, you might notice it less when it's in a ponytail.

Secondly, your hair can still look pulled together and feminine while being up. There is a difference between a messy unwashed bun and a neat updo.

Third, if you want a cheap and effective styling tool- you can always buy the Revlon blow dry brush. It is really easy to achieve a nice blow out with this tool. I personally prefer my other styling tools because I really enjoy the process of doing my hair and I don't mind taking my time.

But the styling brush is cheap, easy, and quick. If you tell me more about your hair type, texture, and length I can recommend some products as well.

And when you're doing work or dealing with the baby, you can always put it up into a twist using a clip and that won't dent your hair.

I bought a really nice curling iron and straightening iron. It has really helped me with making my hair look better. Try things out and try to make an effort. Take your time

I find brushing hair regularly reduces the amount of shedding you experience. Definitely use some sort of clip that doesn't bend your hair out of shape or make a quick braid while cooking or doing some housework -- even professional chefs wear some sort of hair net (I think?) while cooking. Nobody wants a hair in their food!

I think braids look very feminine and cute, not a lot of people wear them, and they get your hair out of the way. You can also try half-up hairstyles or use a hair turban/hair band. For the rest, just vacuum! :)

Did you have the baby about 3 months ago? 3 months after I had each of mine I had significant shedding for about 6-8 weeks.

I would love to wear my hair down more but when I do I find a lot of hair on my clothes and also on the floor.

If you brush your hair well daily to get rid of loose ones, this is much less of a problem. I'm going to wager you don't brush it enough.
