My personal rule for helping a woman is to ask myself, "Would I do it if it was a man?"

[–]-RobotDeathSquad- 30 points31 points32 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yup. Sitting on a full subway my friend wanted to get up because some cute college chick was standing. He wanted to give her his seat. I said "would you give your seat to the business man standing next to her?" He said no way dude. I said yeah you're doing it because shes hot and you think theres a chance youll get her number and hopefully some ass. He got up anyways and gave her the seat (he was sitting across from me). She told him she had a bf as he was asking for her number as she was getting off. I lol'd.

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points24 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

See, I was in a situation like yours in highschool where I wouldnt give up my seat for a girl. I was not aware of redpill at all, just having a really shitty day and I didnt want to deal with other peoples shit so I held my ground and told everyone to leave me alone, thus refusing a seat for the standing girl. Let me tell you, I have never been berated by white knights this hard in my entire life thus far. I actually got smacked in the back of the head, some tools took my bag and played 'keep away' with it and some dudes gave me a 'talk' when I got off the bus. This girl laughed at the situation like it was a entertainment for her. What a princess.

On a related note, this white knight disease can be used to help yourself. I usually ask the girl next to me at a bar to wave down the bartender if its a guy. The male bartenders will skip guys in line to serve a female any day of the year. Yup.

[–]-RobotDeathSquad- 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's sickening. Use it to your advantage just like you described. I'll have my female cousins, fuckbuddies or the occasional LTR to get me free drinks from chumps at the bar.

[–]whyalwaysm3 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most white knights are pussies. Had you smacked the one who smacked the back of your head, most of them would back off.

[–]qtyapa 22 points23 points24 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

you're doing it because shes hot and you think theres a chance youll get her number and hopefully some ass.

Sometimes guys very well know there is no chance of that still go out and help only the hot girls not the fat ones, old ones or the men.

[–]-RobotDeathSquad- 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why? They're such idiots. Whatever, they're doing it to themselves.

[–][deleted] 235 points236 points237 points 12 years ago (51 children) | Copy Link

Fucking right.

I have the same policy. I am much more inclined to help a male or elderly lady than a young woman.

You help a young woman - attractive or not, what is the first thing on her mind? That you're a decent human being? No, that you are kissing her ass.

[–]Dopebear 44 points45 points46 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Leech off top comment to share the TRP-esque images I've got from 4chan.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The second one.. what the fuck? Why would a woman want to stand up to pee? I'm so confused how that's feminism. Maybe I've missed the point?

[–]Dopebear 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's just a drop amongst the ocean of anger and ignorance that is feminism. I can't even begin to try to rationalise what she's trying to get at.

[–][deleted] 100 points101 points102 points 12 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link

Yep, especially the young hot ones that know they're hot stuff.

Encounter this all day at work. I treat them with borderline annoyance straight off the bat.

You wouldn't believe what women will try to do to prove themselves when they don't believe their looks will help anything. Free shows all day.

TRP is like playing like fighting the war of the sexes on easy mode.

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points34 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Free shows all day.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. They flash you their tits at work? What is your job?

Oh god, the stories I could tell...

Peacocking is pretty much exactly what I would call it. Women strutting their stuff in front of me, etc.

To be honest, it turns me on more when a girl dresses stylishly and modestly (enough). It tells me that she's more than her body.

When a girl comes in and she's in yoga pants and a tanktop all dolled up with make up (you didn't work out in that) driving around in her brand new BMW lowers my respect for her almost instantly.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points-3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'd buy a Porsche too vs. a BMW. Ultimate driving machine my ass.

A Bugatti Veyron is the ulimate in driving machines.

Don't get me wrong, BMWs are great. But people buy them for the same reason why most people buy Louis Vuitton. It's all image, and a BMW is one of the more attainable image makers.

[–]Raggos 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Clearly you've never driven a Mclaren P1....this is not a car sub...let's stop

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know multiple women that put makeup on before going to the gym.

It makes me a little sad for them.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can't say anything specific but I work in the auto industry.

I wouldn't go as far as having a woman flash her tits at me... (although I've never asked, TY for the idea) plenty of cleavage/nipples and low skirts, if you know what I mean. Lots of suggestion. Ain't gonna tell me that all women don't know what they're doing. ;-)

[–]votava926 17 points18 points19 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its more like playing with the strategy guide.

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 12 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Which is why the hotter your plate is, the less interest you have to show (generally) to keep her wanting more. 9s and 10s are so used to men being interested at all, you can show only the slightest interest, or they will lump you in with everyone else

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

Let's face it, you'd be a little bit annoyed anyway by how hot some girl is. It's distracting at the very least.

It's like driving around in a new Ferrari Spyder. Everyone's looking. Everybody's asking about it. I'm just trying to put some goddamn gas.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

So you're telling me you'd rather not have a Ferrari Spyder?

[–]young_TRP 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Exactly, girls know this and exploit it

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm just a bit confused what you two are getting at, maybe there's something I'm missing.

[–]young_TRP 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Girls know that they're the Spyder and use it to get attention/help/validation. Just like a Sypder-rider would get (unwanted) attention

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Eh, I'd like that kind of attention - to drop the metaphor for simplicity -when you're nailing a 10, other women start to look at you a whole lot differently, and you can turn that into a whole bunch of other plates.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not saying the attention is bad all of the time, it's downright awesome when it's the good kind of attention.

But not when it brings down the highway patrol or unwanted suitors.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I'm saying I'd rather have a BMW M6 sedan.

All the WOW power with four doors and good looks. All you ever need.

Italian exotics only make sense to own in Italy or Monte Carlo where the parts are easily available and there's plenty of age old mechanics to work on them.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Are we still talking about women?

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Boring topic. Lets talk about expensive cars more. ;-)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Down

[–]-RobotDeathSquad- 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm sorry but Mcoupe is where it's at.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm with you, but not much of a family car.

Can't turn a hoe into a housewife. ;-) Gotta have that little bit extra, you know?

Reminds me of one time a gentleman came into the shop with an older M5. His wife told him to come down to the Valley to buy a sensible car like a Subaru or something. He got onto the lot, took a look around, and the dealers push this BMW on the guy for a test drive. Being an M5 he got attached to the car and brought it in to us (an independent) to have it checked out a little bit. This car needed at least $5000 and was borderline unsafe. The A/C didn't even work. We Carfaxed the thing just for the hell of it and it had FIVE previous owners. Two in New Jersey across the US, and two in the UAE. As in the United Arab Emirates. Dubai. In the Middle East. This car was used up, but was being sold at the going rate. It looked fine and drove alright but underneath was a different story.

Cars are so much like women...

[–]-RobotDeathSquad- 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That reminds me, there's all these abandoned supercars in Dubai. Like Lambos and Ferraris literally on the side of the road abandoned. I wanna fly in with a Globemaster III and collect them.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Eh, they'd cost too much to restore. The desert absolutely demolishes everything in a car, leather, rubber seals, gaskets, oil, etc.

I saw an Enzo in one of those pictures though. Shit, that might be worth it.

[–]Indianbro 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Except not everyone can appreciate an m6 unless they are well versed in luxury cars

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Except not everyone can appreciate an m6 unless they are well versed in luxury cars

Exactly

I appreciate what I have because I live a well curated life.

I couldn't care less what people think about it. Discretion is the key to luxury IMHO.

[–]ImALoneWolfBaby 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I find SO many think they are hot stuff now a days. Most aren't even that attractive, yet they feel it because of the herds of guys willing to do stupid or random acts of "kindness" for them. The amount of attention they get literally masks their face when they look in mirror, it really is just entertainment.

[–]Schrodingersdawg 30 points31 points32 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I had a friend who was a cop. When he stopped people, he would only give tickets to the pretty women or the ones who really fucked up. He knew that ugly people had it bad so he almost always let them go.

[–]-RobotDeathSquad- 24 points25 points26 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

My uncle is a highway officer and he tells me anytime a younger woman does something like "jiggle her tits" or talks in that fake flirty tone where they're trying to manipulate you, he will nail their ass with a ticket, no ifs and or buts. Sadly a lot of his buddies are more blue pill minded and will give warnings or lessen the severity of whatever crime was committed.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[–]Midnight_in_Seattle 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am much more inclined to help a male or elderly lady than a young woman.

Good idea. The other question is whether you're genuinely acting out of your own interest, from a position of strength, or in the hopes of impressing someone else, from a position of weakness that is trying to show false strength.

[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They come from that position of superiority, like if you're a boss of a company and someone helps you without asking, do they like you or do they just want a promotion? Women apply the same concept to themselves as "does he think this will get him sex?"

[+]ModsCensorMe -12 points-11 points-10 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

You help a young woman - attractive or not, what is the first thing on her mind? That you're a decent human being? No, that you are kissing her ass.

If you help people, because of the thanks you get, then you're not really a good person.

A good person would help someone with a flat tire, no matter who they were, because they have a flat tire.

[–]esco_ 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

theres a good case to be made that there is no true altruism. We all get positive reinforcement from helping someone, it makes us feel like a good person etc.

If you can't identify the reason why you are helping someone, it doesnt make you a better person than someone who can.

If you think this way then you are a beta. The true Alpha helps the woman and thinks no different of it than he thinks of helping an old lady or a homeless person. If there are others lining up behind you to help, so what? Out alpha them. Or don't. Just help the girl out FFS.

Betas. Sheesh.

Archaic also meaning they're pure and haven't fucked anyone outside of their communities marriage agreements....Seriously if you're gonna go with an archaic method of describing, go all the way instead of just part of the way to prove your point.

As a short guy, I completely agree. Not to mention im an "easy" target for some douche to establish his dominance. A lifetime of being attacked wears on you.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm curious, how often does this happen to you? With somebody being a dick because they think they can, because you're shorter. Is it like a daily thing or just once in a while?

And did it decrease as you got older, or does it still happen while you are (presumably) an adult?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Short guy here. I've been pushed around in public places and accused of lying about my age. Bitchy women do that.

The men that have pushed me around have been vapid pricks that need a punching bag to validate themselves in front of women, demonstrate higher SMV than me. But that's not being alpha; it's being a douche.

"Judge a big man's character by how he treats little men."

I don't mean to make a pity party here. No, It doesn't happen that often.

And in fact it motivates me to improve myself. I am an ambitious and motivated person, respected for my personal accomplishments and intelligence among my friends, if not physical stature (Planning on starting a gym routine this summer). Nobody ever fails to stick up for me when I hit the town with my friends and some douche wants to step on me. I have good friends.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Planning on starting a gym routine in the future? That is utter procrastination. Go lift. Pick shit up and put it back down. Doesn't sound very ambitious or motivated to me, and quite frankly ambitious and motivated people never call themselves that.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think the monks are the ones that should be scared of a harsh ass beating.

[–]elevul 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Especially if they are Shaolin, the ones that should be scared are the ones trying to beat them...

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is why my distaste for civilization is growing more and more everyday. It is manipulating us in order to become either sniveling worms, or aggressive psychopaths. I know there is a middle ground, but it is not very well tolerated and anyone going down that path will have their will seriously tested.

The reality is that if someone wants to truly be nice and is low value then they need to clearly identify themselves as not being part of normal human social interaction. This is why monks and priests and the religious like identify themselves with clothing. If they didn't oh boy what a beating they would take and what disrespect they would receive.

This also applies to relationships between different cultures or countries. It would be interesting to explore the evolution of religions in that context - how the artificially induced concepts of personal humility, fear of god, forgiveness to transgressor, or practices such as sharing wealth or covering female body are merely attempts to curb the mankind's vile nature so that the collective itself doesn't evolve into a sniveling worm or a psychopath. The frustrations that we encounter ourselves eventually determine the norms of the entire society, and how it interacts with other societies. Many conquering and aggressive peoples, leaders or ideologies are probably macroscopic manifestations of some entrenched Napoleon complex such as losing a recent war or being humiliated when in disadvantaged position.

[–]Hyooge75 points 12 years ago [recovered] (15 children) | Copy Link

I feel genuine hate towards men that bend over backwards for a pretty woman because we all know what they are after. Quite funny really because I know a dude who messages an enormous amount of girls replying on their demand and guess what? He sleeps with none of them and his girlfriend cheated on him when she was on holiday with him. He puts every relatively attractive girl he meets first and will talk to them and make effort even when he gets bullied by them. The worst bit is he's a dickhead who isn't very nice and tries his best to put others down. Beta and being unkind can go hand in hand. Often the nicest guys you'll meet are the most confident, attractive to women and likeable.

[–]chakravanti93 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

He sleeps with none of them and his girlfriend cheated on him

So why do you hate? Pity is easier, and requires less actual fucks to give, assuming one should at all...

[–]Hyooge25 points 12 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

If you read the end of my post you'll see I say he is unkind to people he feels he can talk down to. And I don't like that in a person. I pity his futile flirting but dislike his attitude.

[–]whyalwaysm3 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I hear you man. I know a few of those guys too. One in particular who I happened to meet through my circle of friends is like this. If he knows you don't put up with shit he won't talk down to you. If you are a push over then you will have a terrible time around this person. He's the type of person who will put you down in front of a large crowd of girls or friends to impress the girls or make himself look superior.

I'm usually good at being able to read people. This guy was taller and heavier than me but he must've thought I was a push over, the first time he tried to put me down I smacked him so hard his sunglasses flew off his face about 10 feet and this was in front of his girlfriend too lol. Long story short, every time he sees me now he's the nicest dude in the world to me lol.

This is really on point. I make a point of refusing attractive women that make unreasonable requests. By making you do something for them, they are exercising their 'power' over you and their reward is often not the favor but the thrill of having someone supplicate to their beauty

Bit unrelated but I was just talking with a guy and a 19 year old girl walks in. He tells me that she is a scammer. She targets rich guys in the club, gets them to buy expensive bottles of champagne, then buys shots. They get so out of it that she just slinks off after. Then she gets a cut of the drinks the guys have bought. Pulls in around 10 grand a month (dollars). These guys think they are being nice to a pretty girl and helping them have a good time (with the hope of sex) when they are getting ripped off.

If I buy someone a drink it is because they are damn good company and conversation and they would do the same for me.

I don't believe that for a second. Anybody can be more than just their biology or society says they have to be. I know women that are not only beautiful, but have successful families, are well read and well-spoken, have a successful career, and happen to even be genuinely happy. Usually these women are also married a handsome, fit, alpha man as well. (I'm usually friends/co-workers with the man. That's how I know these women exist.)

I'm not saying that unicorns exist, but I am saying that you can work your ass off for it and genuinely be a happy person as a result as well.

Reminds me of something that happened in a bus.

I was sitting right next to a pretty girl and a dude. The girl was trying to roll a joint but she needed some filler.

Guy: Just ask any guy for a cigarette!

Girl: Why don't YOU ask ?

Guy: Because guys will bend over backwards to help a pretty girl.

Girl: Yeah right

Guy: "Anybody have a cigarette ???"

The people in the bus just look around at each other like whatever

Guy: "See now you do it"

Girl: "Does anybody have a cigarette??"

Half the bus turns around. All I hear is the whimpers of "I have one!!" "Here you go!" etc etc etc

Not first time this type of shit happens

Reminds me of a scene last summer. I'm at a busy subway station in a big city. A black late middle or high school kid comes running and swipes this attractive woman's IPhone and runs up the stairs to the exit. The woman has on these 4.5 inch stillettos, immediately takes off for this kid, somehow catches him halfway up even with the stairs vs. heels battle, and starts stomping his ass with those stilettos. She lets the kid go after she gets the phone back and within seconds a crowd of overmuscled 30 something guys start crowding her asking if she is alright and saying they'll go catch the kid. WTF! She took care of business, got her shit back, let the kid go, and now you get all chivalrous? If you wanted to help, chase the kid right away! If you want recognition for being "nice" wait until after shits been dealt with. This brings up another point though. Those who help attractive people tend to not "help" so much as offer assistance in the hope it leads to sex. If you lost a buspass, fine, but don't expect these betas to take real risk and help recover a phone from an inner city black teen. Also, attractive women are plenty able to take care of their own.

When I see a guy go out of his way to help someone who doesn't appreciate it, I just feel a sense of disgust since he's the reason why that mentality exists.

The woman doesn't respect him either since he's acting like a servant trying to win her approval. When too many guys do this she's get a princess complex which results in them whining about windmills or the patriarchy when someone who doesn't kiss their ass comes along.

Yeah. Attractive girls are ingrates. If I'm lucky enough to be able to hold the door open for them I don't. If you want my help, put on a few years and get a walker, bitch!

[–]IncrediblyEasy 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If I can hold a door without going out of my way, like extending hand to hold it while passing or similarly, there's no fucking difference who am I holding the door for, I see it as a simple act of kindness and don't care if I get the thanks or not. So this "not holding if I can" thing you mentioned seems a little off for me. Now if I'd have to get out of my way to help someone, then it's certainly not going to be someone who will do well themselves.

Regarding the pic, for me the point of "if not me, who else?" is valid, however the "will they thank me" point is not so important. That said I agree that many of the attractive girls are ingrates and think it is the norm that everyone goes out of the way helping them. The earlier you learn to say no in your life, the better, and it matters in a way wider spectrum than only girls trying to use you.

I should have written this amount of text for my thesis, not on Reddit, damn it...

Most people on online, and reddit especially, are anti anything related to the bible. Say what you want about it, but there is SOME wisdom in those old pages. Ethics of the Fathers covers this post in a simple and concise sentence from thousands of years ago. Only now have I realized how TRP this is.

"Hillel says, "If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, who am I? If not now, when?" Ethics of the Fathers, 1:14"

ie Help people, but don't let them walk all over you--you have to take care of yourself before you can help others. Also, get that shit, whatever that shit is--working out, asking the girl out, getting education, etc, done NOW. If not now, when motherfucker??!

It may sound harsh, but be picky whom you are going to help. If possible, call another person to help you or at least watch you, so you are not going to get stabbed and robbed.

I have a question: As (social) animals, are we biologically capable of not caring about external judgement, considering our identity and values are born from (interaction with) external influences? I feel like this is a nice thing to believe but not even possible unless you believe in the existence of a 'very free' will. Can someone throw some hard science at me?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

External judgement is a social constrictor, it is subjective and has no inherent moral validity. Yes, it plays a important role in defining our identity. But once you grow up and have internalised a certain value system, external validation should become irrelevant.

Nice people have friends not because they are nice, but because they are nice people. It's less about your actions and more about the person behind those actions. A hard worker will always be more respected and valued than a man that works hard.(due to external factors)

Like all biological needs, the need for a social enviroment can be satisfied with a variety of options, there is a fast and unhealthy solution, i.e. adapt to what is the most accesible enviroment and suplicate to the establish hierarchy. Or build your own, define rules relationships and dept wihtoun your own circle. Make it sustainable and make it add value in the long term to both your life ant the other members within it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

once you grow up and have internalised a certain value system, external validation should become irrelevant.

I get hung up on this point, I can think of many examples where this is true and where it isn't but I suspect there's some research in neuropsychology supporting your side more than the opposite at least.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What is the point that you are "hung" up about specifically?

I do not claim my theories to be academically proven. They are deductions coming from subjective observations, case studies and experiments. Give me a grant and I will consider making a academic case around them.

In a practical sense most people lack the certainty in their identity values and abilities. They need confirmantion that their perception is valid. This most often than not comes from their environment, either from a established moral norms or from a incumbent opinion leader within the group. Woman are masively predisposed to this type of behavior because oposition to the tribe would have meant almost certain death. As a man you have the ability to say no(not negeserally fight established values but not embrace or promote them), to define your identity and core values and build up around them a social group. This is more healthy as you do not sacrifice your identity for a biological deal. This cohesion between your internal self and your environment also makes your emotional stability very sustainable and attractive to others as they see the congruence and lack of conflict as succes or the proverbial "he's got it figured out".

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

while humans will be less suspectible to external influences after adolescence and external validation may become slightly less dominant as certain neurological things happen (really not a neuroscientist), I don't think it ever becomes 'irrelevant' as humans' ability to continually adapt to their (social) environment is such a striking quality of our race - I think you're overestimating our power/ability to rely on ourselves.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No, like I previously mentioned, the temptation is to not grow up, and still embrace the social context you happen to be most familiar with. But this is unhealthy and does not help the individuals development. It is very similar to fast food vs healthy food. The fast easy solutions lead to compounded problems over time and you end up with unhealthy emotionally dependent people. While the healthy options is not as comfortable it helps you develop autonomy and over time that autonomy attracts others with similar views.

Adapting means surviving, working within, not molding and sacrifcing your individual views. The first is indeed a amasing ability but thes second is a unhealthy behavior that makes you less adaptable and flexible in the long run.

You are severely underestimating our ability and need for independence and autonomy. This is a consequence of living continuously conected to the approval (and judgement) of others trough the internet, but this is just a consequence of our technology and it is far from natural. The lack of individuality, independent though and a emotionally healthy self view are some of the unfortunate consequences of this new "normal" that mutated our social interactions within the last 15 years.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

while I disagree with your views, I feel we are getting to the point where throwing academic research at each other is the only way to progress at a reasonable pace and I'm not that invested or knowledgeable, so I just want to say I appreciate your explanation.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I appreciate the civil discussion and divergent point of view.

I would however encourage you to look at your daily interactions and experiment. The modern status quo of academia means it's results are both detached from real world situations and severely politically biassed. Worst case scenario you have fun, best case you increase your understanding of your fellow humans.

Reminds me of a time I fucked up trying to help a good-looking single mother while I was riding the bus. Saw her come in with her cute little kid, must have been about 3 or 4 years old. It was an "ordinary" bus with no air-conditioning, and the windows were rolled up. We were going down the highway at a very fast speed so I could see it was bothersome for her to have to sit next to a window with her long brown hair. I walked up to their seat near the middle of the bus from all the way in the back to try and push the window down. It wouldn't budge. Apparently it was stuck. After about a minute of trying she blurted out "No thanks it's fine" and so I resigned back to my seat. Felt like a bit of a chump, right there. Moments later she got off the bus when she realized she got on the wrong one anyway.

Right on. I think the biggest thing, is from what I've observed, a beta most of the time only helps an attractive woman, in the hopes that she'll put out in return.

It's awesome to see someone be helpful and kind across the board because it's the right thing to do.

Being a good person does not mean showering someone in gifts and obeying their every command.

For most things, I agree. Kindness for its own sake should come with no strings attached and neither party should feel entitled to the act. In the case of a woman, she sees it as something she's entitled to while the person who's doing the action does not. If anything, this is a form of extortion except it's not using threats but looks.

I think I've finally made peace with this. I've been raised by my strict old school British father. Pleasant manners/decorum/etiquette etc. I've recently since swallowing the pill started to get angry at how women in general and particularly young attractive ones are like this. However I really feel that I like being the way I am and will do for them what I would do for anyone.

I had started going out of my way not doing nice things for attractive women, but I realized that was petty and stooping to their level. So I still do everything I normally would for a hot girl as I would for anyone else and if they don't a appreciate that's fine. I know I did the right thing in my mind. I just certainly won't do more for a hot woman than I would do for a man child or elderly person.

My dad (who is actually pretty red pill now after swallowing I can see this more clearly) told me how I act in front of people in terms of etiquette chivalry and decorum is really just 2 things.

Selflessness and Restraint

Do it because it's right and good and don't ever expect the same in return, it's your obligation to yourself to know you did the right/good thing.

It's not fair to expect a thank you when you hold open a door for anybody. You only held it open because you felt it was right. It would be an ill act of manners to expect anything in return.

Be the bigger man.

those are my thoughts and im sticking to them

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's so strange reading all of this. I just came to this subreddit after having similar suspicions about how our American society is turning out and while I'm not completely convinced, I can feel myself harmonizing with this way of thinking. It doesn't seem misogynistic, it doesn't seem aggressive, it seems self-affirming. Even my own mama thinks like this - she said to me a few times, much to my immense surprise, 'Girls these days are becoming demanding bitches who become self-righteous as they grow obese'. I don't necessarily agree with that, but it's surprising considering that she's known as a new-age ex-hippy queen (she's pretty cool).

I haven't thought about this for a long time though because I moved to China. The women are very, very different here - honestly it's worse if you look at how they are on TV, in movies...Asian men in film and media are often treated as dopey, having their slender little fairy wives/girlfriends either stealing their food, beating them, yelling at them, or being subjected to general emotional castration.

At the same time as the public is getting a kick out of watching men be subjected to feminization and horrible, screaming harpy women, they're told how they have to get married, find a young woman, make lots of money, be strong, stand up for their family, etc. etc...and yet I see almost no positive, powerful male role models in the media.

It's amazing though, how this changes as a foreign man, and in my experience I haven't had to be any more macho or tough than I'm used to being - in fact my success with women here in China has come from kindness, respect (for myself and her), and humor. I hate to say it but race definitely plays some role here; I see how Chinese women behave toward Chinese men and how they behave toward me, and it really is a striking difference that makes me kind of sad.

Now I have the woman of my dreams. She's gorgeous, she's a rebel, she can cook, and because I treat her like a queen she treats me like an emperor! She does my laundry, she cleans the floors (I help because I feel bad watching her labor alone), she makes sure I'm comfortable and all of this without asking me to do anything in return. I asked her why, and she said 'I'm your girlfriend, my love for your makes me want to do care for you!' This is shocking to me because she's Ms. Independence, defying her family, defying society's demands and pretty much doing as she pleases, but wholly giving herself to me. I've seen this with other foreigners who come to Asia to find women here. I've even had women here who weren't my girlfriend, prior to this one, who would clean my house, cook for me, and generally treat me very well despite the fact that our relations were mostly sexual in nature.

I find myself wondering how hard it would be to find a woman as wonderful as the one I'm seeing back in the West.
