Long time lurker, first time poster. Funny you mention this...
I've been dating a girl for a couple years and have realized that she's basic (Starbucks, yoga pants, north face jackets, social media, works in marketing, hobbies include drinking champagne and watching Netflix, etc...). Quite frankly, she's boring. But she's nice as hell, attractive, obedient, an amazing cook, amazing family, etc...
My question is, at what point is a bitch too basic?

I disagree that all women are "basic bitches". I will say this though: every woman I have ever head describe another woman as a basic bitch exhibited all the same characteristics she was mocking. In other words most women that call other women basic bitches are basic bitches.

I'm a doctor, women can do a lot actually they're often as good as or as smart as the male docs even in high powered fields. Some of them suck but some are pretty fucking impressive to be honest.

Next time you see a list of what "basic" girls do, think of the alternatives that are more "interesting" and shudder.

But the reason why they are all doing this basic shit is because it is trendy, and makes them feel like a part of something. Is doing yoga any worse if everyone else is doing it? It isn't really. I myself rarely do what everyone else does, but every once in a while it can be fun.

The idea that women are empathetic boggles my mind. They might be more sympathetic, but definitely not empathetic.

Simple point. My wife was on vacation with me during this past holiday break. So she goes one day to her parents. Her mom asks her why she's not dressed up. We're both off, so she should be dressed up to look nice for me. Her dad picks it up from the other end of the room and says a saying 'that's the pot calling the kettle black'. Her mother doesn't exactly try to look hot for her husband.

Similarly, my wife will comment on how these 'basic' bitches only interested in looking good, selfies... Then I look at her, and I ask myself, just what hobbies/interests/values does she really pursue? And this is a key point... how does she pursue them?

And I can't really answer it. She really wants to be about something. But in a certain way, the 'basic' girls are truer to who they are and that's a wonderful thing. Don't get me wrong, some women do have a passion. I work in technology and I have met a few, but certainly not most of them. I'm talking about the need of women to somehow define themselves as about something (other than family).

Funny enough, I was always pretty explicit about my love for basic girls. I was just never turned on by girls trying to be more... and when they do try and be more, it was more annoying to me than anything. Maybe is she was passionate/values about the same things I was, it might end up being attractive.

When modern women try and be more than basic because they think they need to be it just becomes expensive basic. They become foodies eating out at fancy restaurants or watching shows or feeling caring about every issue in the world at best. I remember a few years back, my friend dragged me out for company when he was reuniting with some high school girls who are now doctors/dentists. Maybe I'm getting old or something, but I literally couldn't stand to listen to them for more than a few minutes. It was actually painful. The difference in case I didn't make the point was: they weren't becoming expert chefs in their foodie movement, they were just eating out. They weren't becoming actors/singers/dancers, they were just watching shows. Nothing wrong with either as a form of entertainment, but to them it was being about something.

Never does this annoy me more than in 'poor third world' comments. Maybe more so as I come from the third world would have been classified as in poverty when we moved to Canada. This form of charity is not being 'about anything' its just publicizing how bad things make you feel. I don't know how many times I have to hear about these rich girls traveling to some poor country for vacation and seeing the poverty and then seeking recognition about it, like they've come to some sort of great moral discovery that poverty is bad!

Just as a disclaimer. There is nothing wrong with charity or understanding poverty. I think it is obvious I wasn't saying that. I'm just saying, I think this form of it comes more from a place of feeling and status and trying to be about something, than anything else. In the end, not much different from the girl just taking the selfie.

Most women do hate the term basic bitch. But I really think you have it the wrong way. Why would you want them to APPEAR interesting? If they are genuinely interesting, it is great. I love it when I find a girl who has her own interest, be it Yogo, painting, art, belly dancing... But that fake interesting is the absolute worst.

I'm going to be empathetic here (see my male empathy kicking in) and imagine this is how females feel about fake thug guys. It is the worst. The guy is actually a pussy, but acts like a thug because he think he should APPEAR tough. Maybe he can con some stupid women this way. And maybe some women can fake being about something for some stupid man, but why would you think this is a positive thing?

If you're a woman who just likes a nice home life, kids, a husband to have sex with, some social rep by posting selfies... great! Be who you are. If you're a guy who just like to go to work, come home, be with the family, go out every now with the boys for some pointless drinking... great!

The other sad thing of course is that in areas that might naturally peak a woman's interest. They sometimes feel that is not being about something because it is a traditional woman's role. Take something like cooking. Just as great as any hobby I can think of as a man. Yet, some modern women don't think this is a hobby. It has come back around due to the big food movement, but hopefully you get the point.

Nothing wrong with basicness. As the man, it is your job to provide the "interesting." Be valuable and bring value.

Watch out for girls who are super busy/"interesting". Almost always fuck a lot of dudes and have baggage. Almost always are so busy and interesting because they can't stand to be alone (red flag for baggage). If you think a girl is going to be adventurous everywhere except with dating/fucking, you're gonna have a bad time. Been there, done that.

The only viable strategy I can see is a girl who's had the inkling to do some more interesting things but never has gotten around to it. You can lead her to do these things. Demonstrate your leader qualities, structure the activities so it doesn't involve a surplus of single, interesting men... Likely you'll have to grab her young enough where she hasn't had the opportunity yet. Basically did something kinda like this for a while successfully. Or do you think your little sweetie who plays volleyball with all those tall well muscled men regularly never has any ideas about them?
