Are men inherently better than women are at some skills, and vice versa? Though blue pillers tend to think otherwise -- and there are always notable exceptions -- scientific research frequently concludes that men and women excel in different areas.

It’s no secret that boys and girls are different—very different. The differences between genders, however, extend beyond what the eye can see. Research reveals major distinguishers between male and female brains.

So what about nature versus nurture? As Diane Halpern, a professor of psychology at Claremont McKenna College, said during the British Psychological Society Annual Conference last year: "We do socialize our boys and girls differently, but the contribution of biology is very important."

A simple example of this is how a study in the Biology Letters holds that "men are better than women at acoustic size judgments." This means that men have an enhanced ability to determine a person's size based on the sound of his or her voice, according to Benjamin Charlton and colleagues from the University of Sussex. The findings, conclude the authors, "lend support to the idea that acoustic size normalization, a crucial prerequisite for speech perception, may have been sexually selected through male competition."

When men were first exploring Earth, finding new places to live, and building societies and governments, where were women? Sitting on there arse with the kids, that's where. Why? Men possess a stronger ability to think of objects in three dimensions, helping with navigation, which was also discussed during the British Psychological Society Annual Conference. Even 3-month-old infants exhibit the sex-based behavioral difference. It could be that hunting, competitive battles, exploration and other activities conducted in the past helped to lock the skill into males.

Maybe the women were just too tired. Some would say, "I'd like to see men do better on the sleep a mother gets!". However, they would be wrong. A Duke University study found that men could tolerate sleep deprivation more than women could. This is good for men, as it means that they won't grumble and give up when they feel tired, like many women do. They get shit done, even if they're exhausted.

Men are also better at detecting infedelity, and are far more upset than women when it comes to a partner cheating. I wonder why? Not to mention women are far better than men at detecting emotions, meaning that they can always come up with a killer thing to say.

Neurologically, Male brains utilize nearly seven times more gray matter for activity while female brains utilize nearly ten times more white matter. What does this mean?

Gray matter areas of the brain are localized. They are information- and action-processing centers in specific splotches in a specific area of the brain. This can translate to a kind of tunnel vision when they are doing something. Once they are deeply engaged in a task or game, they may not demonstrate much sensitivity to other people or their surroundings.

White matter is the networking grid that connects the brain’s gray matter and other processing centers with one another. This profound brain-processing difference is probably one reason you may have noticed that girls tend to more quickly transition between tasks than boys do. The gray-white matter difference may explain why, in adulthood, females are great multi-taskers, while men excel in highly task-focused projects.

While we are on the subject of emotional processing, another difference worth looking closely at is the activity difference between male and female brains. The female brain, in part thanks to far more natural blood flow throughout the brain at any given moment (more white matter processing), and because of a higher degree of blood flow in a concentration part of the brain called the cingulate gyrus, will often ruminate on and revisit emotional memories more than the male brain.

Males, in general, are designed a bit differently. Males tend, after reflecting more briefly on an emotive memory, to analyze it somewhat, then move onto the next task. During this process, they may also choose to change course and do something active and unrelated to feelings rather than analyze their feelings at all. Thus, observers may mistakenly believe that boys avoid feelings in comparison to girls or move to problem-solving too quickly. This is not the case, males are just more inclined to get shit done instead of being a bitch.

Due to this, men can also cope better with mental illness. It is estimated that one third of men will experience a mental disorder in their lifetime, as opposed to one sixth of women, but only 25% of these men seek help, as opposed to 59% of women, showing that men only seek help when they really need it. Of the quarter of men who experience an anxiety disorder in their lifetime, 80% of them fully recover in 18 months with therapy, as opposed to 3 years with women, and those who don't recover fully still reduce their anxiety dramatically, whereas anxiety for women is often a lifetime issue. This shows that men can regulate emotions better, and due to make willpower, perseverence, and problem solving, can overcome debilitating mental illness realtively quickly when compared to women.

Scientists have discovered approximately 100 gender differences in the brain, and the importance of these differences cannot be overstated.
