Neither will shed a tear for him... or, if they do, it won't because they were complicit in his on-going struggles and depression. After all, it was "their" money and whatever the court ordered him to pony up was simply "justice."
They'll sleep just fine...and then also hire a lawyer to sue the estate for a cut. Count on it.

They probably won't need to sue. It's likely already covered by their divorce settlements.

Time and time again, this happens to famous and powerful men. I'm sad that it happened to Robin, such a funny man, and an actor with a deep range.
I think I'm gonna watch Good Will Hunting again.

I have to wonder if Robin was one of those people who the older he got the more he swallowed the red pill and understood how he was used by others.. possibly became disillusioned with his own life and everything he tried to stand for.
Someone as carefree and genuinely loving of everyone the way he was is bound to be USED UP in this fucked world. It makes me real sad
[–]RPL2310 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
after swallowing RP and seeing whats going on...i have to agree with you. i think Robin was RP in some ways (his comedy, acting, etc) but still conditioned BP in other ways (relationships). i think the truth of it all finally got to him.
i'm still very upset over what happened and...maybe unsurprisingly...furious at the people and society that caused such a destructive ecosystem to exist.
i'm really going to miss him.
edit: spelling.

Dead Poet's Society was what made me actually try in high school. Watched it in the 10th grade after jerking around in grade 9.
Turned my whole high school career around after that.

not really, fact not at all. it's better to view for yourself, pretty much based around a teacher loving the fuck out of his job and his students.

I don't know if I can stomach BP media. I'll check it out later. Thanks.
[–]TheOpposingView 0 points0 points0 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
So true.
The world is divided into BP and RP, and it needs our stamp of approval to be watchable. Dead Poet's Society is about a teacher whose motto is carpe diem and whose idol is Walt Whitman. Can you believe that blue pill bullshit? Poets? Of course, Walt Whitman is about loving the self and through the self all other things, but a lot of Poetry is bluepill oneitis BS by betas like Petrarch or John Donne.
Honestly, I think the only movies we should really watch are just Rocky. Forever. Actually, that and Terminator, which is all about a man being super alpha to protect the mother of the world's future alpha against what I presume to be a symbol of Feminism (relentless? Check. Seemingly warm flesh, metal dead insides? Check. Hates other women? Check) which tries to totally beta-a-tize John Connor's wicked alpha Dad with symbolic shit tests in the form of bullets.
You know who also had oneitis? Romeo of Romeo and Juliet. I nearly projectile vomitted over how bad he failed Juliet's shit tests. Like, wtf, next that bitch.
In short, its definitely important to carefully segregate the world into BP and RP. I can't get enough of that talk. Nothing makes me feel like I belong like a real them and us attitude in every aspect of my life.
[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
Your satire is in poor taste. It's nothing about group/mob mentality it's everything to do with reality and delusion.
You can absolutely segregate everything into reality and delusion when it comes to human ways of thought. Theoretics are the border between reality and delusion as they have the possibility to be either until proven or disproven.
I find in media that some things are gritty (close to totally RP) some are fantasy/delusional (close to totally BP) whilst others mix it up in different proportions, if something is full of shit, I don't want to watch it, if something however has a few delusional idealisms in it but otherwise is useful/constructive/positive then I'll watch it, there's nothing wrong with having a healthy dose of optimism/hope, that's not the same as watching propaganda promoting a hidden agenda, a good film is a good film, but there's a fine line between entertainment value and then adopting the ideas of a film as your own, media is an agent of socialisation so like it or not if you're going to watch fantastical bollocks full of trite, it's going to affect how you perceive - hence my aversion and desire to minimize my exposure to things which pollute my mind with falsehoods. Yes I'm probably mentally cognizant enough to identify and reject these ideas anyway, but why waste my time with it? It's distasteful and unproductive.
Like everything it's about balance, and each and every human has a tendency to be more predisposed to fantasy or realism. In our current culture, most opt for optimistic fantasy whilst feeling absolutely cynical as a result of the failure that such a mindset brings, the hypocrisy of this should be impossible but it isn't due to cognitive dissonance and doublethink. The irony is so incredible I think it's lost on the great unwashed moronic masses with most lacking the self-awareness to acknowledge said irony.
[–]TheOpposingView0 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Relax man, I went with Satire because I know you don't deserve to be viciously lashed out at (the terminator analogy was at least a little amusing).
I just don't think talking about RP material and BP material is very intellectually honest and I've been seeing it a lot recently.

[–]1BadgerBurger0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'd say it is RP. Boys at a prep school finding their own way, bonding over a shared love, and becoming men.
Robin Williams plays a teacher who refuses to conform and inspires the boys. His role is one of the most memorable you'll ever see.

That is the most down votes I ever got. The guy I responded to wanted Robin Williams to move to another State to avoid the divorce laws of another State and I explained why it will not work- the Full Faith and Credit Clause requires States to give full Faith and Credit to the laws of other States (so moving to another State doesn't help).

Good god! The twisted gymnastics used to turn Robin Williams death into a red pill example is pathetic. The very idea that his depression was rooted in what people complain about here is farcical. The estimates of Robins Williams wealth at his death are as high as $130,000,000 after his divorces.
[–]planned_serendipity124 points25 points26 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, I don't think so. It is well established that the reason he went back to television is because he needed the money.
[–]raouldukeesq-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The low estimate for his current worth is $50,000,000. He has four movies in the pipeline some with backend participation. He worked because his soul needed him to. At least for a while. He did not kill himself over paying $30,000,000 out to his two ex wives over the last 20 years. It had zero relation to his suicide.
[–]planned_serendipity1-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I am glad to hear you are the absolute authority on why he killed himself. You clearly are both all knowing and all powerful that you can declare with 100% confidence that you know absolutely why he committed suicide. Can you do that with other people as well. Please do tell me with 100% confidence why Heath Ledger committed suicide?
Robin Williams himself said that the reason he was taking on these projects was because he was having money problems. So, all knowing one, I guess he was lying when he said that? Several of his closest friends have come out saying that he hated doing these projects, I guess they must be lying also.
tldr: Fuck off, asshole.
[–]raouldukeesq0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You apparently have no concept of logical reasoning. I never said why he committed suicide, I said why he didn't. For, example, I'm relatively sure he did not kill himself because he did not like you. Why am I so sure of that? Because there is zero plausible evidence that he knew you, didn't like you or that he would kill himself if he did. Just like there is zero evidence or even a plausible hypothetical basis to believe that his financial situation had anything to do with his death. The bottom line is, that this thread is clearly an attempt to highjack something that has zero to do with TRP and make it so. It is a poor example and does TRP a disservice by making it look foolish.

When did clinical depression caused by physiology become a Red Pill issue?
[–]omnipedia7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Physiology caused depression, two divorces created monetary problems that turned it into Major Depression, a different diagnosis, BTW, which resulted in suicide.
You can disagree but don't pretend it's not a reasonable perspective.
[–]EVILEMU1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It isn't confirmed that his depression was solely caused by his divorces, the most recent was 4 years ago! It is certainly a plausible chance that this may have been a cause, but we don't know for sure if that is why he was depressed and blindly saying it was is jumping the gun unless you know something I don't about him. If so, please share.
[–]trudatness 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The financial implications of divorce just doesn't go away.
I do know he was on his third marriage, after having two horrific divorces - and had separate bedrooms with his current wife. Also at one point he got sued extorted for 6.2 mil by a former lover.
If you don't think his relationships with these women had anything to do with his suicide, then you're being willfully blind to the situation.
[–]EVILEMU1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
well certainly they contributed to his glum situation, i read a statistic that said they took $30 million from him. But I think it paints an imcomplete picture to say that his wives were the sole or even largest factor that caused his depression / suicide. His career was going downhill, he'd had problems with alcohol and cocaine for many years, and who knows what other factors could be going on. Here's a quick article that mentions his problems with addiction in his past that's he's been very open with. He's had these issues for a very long time.
“I was in a small town where it’s not the edge of the world, but you can see it from there, and then I thought: drinking. I just thought, hey, maybe drinking will help. Because I felt alone and afraid. It was that thing of working so much, and going f*ck, maybe that will help. And it was the worst thing in the world.” He said that after his first drink, he felt “warm” and wonderful,” but then “the next thing you know, it’s a problem, and you’re isolated,”
http://hollywoodlife.com/2014/08/12/robin-williams-death-suicide-cocaine-alcohol-addiction/
Full disclosure....
I've been sober for more than 6 years. I'm no stranger to substance abuse issues.
I can tell you this... There is no stressor that fuels the downward spiral and drives a man into his cups like that of a failed marriage - especially if the woman you are involved with is of the more personality disordered sociopath variety as all these cases of your more catastrophic divorce rape situations seem to be a result of.
Divorce rape + alcoholism & drug abuse = some super bad high risk shit.
When I heard Robin committed suicide, I instinctively knew the daily grind of the pressure to meet his financial obligations - particularly the sizable alimony - was the primary reason for his suicide. Not just that, but he had to continue to provide for his new wife (who didn't even share a bed with him) and be the patriarchal rock for his family.
The struggles with substance abuse was definitely like throwing gas on a fire, but the core of it is the difficulty of what he was facing.
Could you imagine Robin Williams going broke? Or going to jail? A man so talented and beloved?
He was 59 years old and had grown out the accomplished retirement beard. He was done. He had put in a lifetime worth of hard work. Now because of this latest round of alimony, he had to get back on a professional schedule. He had to do TV. Make movies. He had to sell out for some paydays and get back into the grind. He's 63 fucking years old. When was it going to end for this guy? He was looking at more years of work just to maintain the success he richly deserved in his life.
You don't think being the source of someone else's perpetuity can grind a person down? I think it just wore him down and the booze had long ago stopped being a salve for his pain.
This is what alimony does to men. Not only did the ex-wife get half of all he earned in 20 years, but the divorce had forced him to go out and continue to provide for her - an already obviously wealthy woman from what had already been earned.
Think about the current wife, too... She didn't even see him in the morning. Sounds to me like they were living separate lives and she was just another vampire.
Now imagine this on a smaller scale - when the man isn't rich like Williams. Such a fucking thing is a death sentence. This is why the suicide rate is high among divorced men. All this hate and vitriol coupled with double the financial burden. Mix that in with estrangement from children. It's a nightmare. All you hear about is the poor single moms. Meanwhile, it's the divorced dads who are suffering - and the world is apathetic.
If Robin Williams suicide can shed some light on the suffering divorced men go through, then maybe his death doesn't have to be so senseless.
[–]EVILEMU1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
This is exactly what I thought lol. His depression hasn't been proved to be related to his recent divorce directly. It was 4 years ago according to the sourced article below. He was remarried a year later. I'm sure relations with his current wife may have contributed to his depression, but I doubt that his past divorces severely contributed to his more recent state. They sure did fuck him in the wallet though, it mentions $30 million he had to pay out. I'd like to let this hot topic simmer for a bit longer before I accuse his depression on his past and current wives. I think it had a lot to do with his deteriorating career as well. there's a lot that can go on in someone's life and pointing a finger at a single cause can lead us to ignore some other potential issues. One thing's for sure though. He wasn't poor when he died if he had a $35million dollar house up for sale.
"Tragically, Robin Williams died on August 11, 2014 at his home in Tiburon, California of an apparent suicide. He was 63 years old and had been reportedly battling severe depression. Robin was married three times, first to Valerie Velardi from 1978-1988, then from Marsha Garces from 1989 to 2010 and finally to Susan Schneider from 2011 until his death. He reportedly paid his first two wives more than $30 million in combined divorce settlements. He is survived by three children, one from his first marriage and two from his second. He will be terribly missed. Rest in peace." - http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-celebrities/actors/robin-williams-net-worth/

I imagine Robin as being red pill.. most comedians are. But at the same time I imagine he is a lot like me in the way that I have a very hard time swallowing the pill the whole way. I desperately still want to believe in people's good nature. The truth of people's manipulations is almost too hard to bear.. it does cause depression.
A guy like Robin used humor to push through all of that and he took other people with him. That's why he is so loved.. He showed all of us that genuine, caring people do exist.
[–]Dreamtrain2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
He might actually realized many things at his age of life, but probably felt it didn't make a damn difference what he did about it at this point. Men have good nature. Women do not. I have many male colleagues I trust with my life. I would NEVER put my life in a woman's hands. The female nature is just awful in comparison, it was great for our evolution but at this point it's antiquated and doesn't benefit civilization.

I'm sure she was well behaved and a helpful sweet and caring person when he met her. Sleeping with her isn't enough, they need to continue to have a reason to be well behaved, helpful, sweet, and caring. But the reverse is true. The incentive is to split, take half, and go find a young Chippendale to fuck.
And it's no fucking wonder some parts of the world don't want their women to become Americanized.

I was waiting for this post and I'm so fucking glad it happened. I didn't even know that much about Robin William's personal life, but I fucking KNEW his suicide had to do with being robbed financially of his entire life's work. Apparently his most recent wife had filed for divorce just days before. THIS MARRIAGE SHIT IS DISGUSTING. It took one of the most amazing people on this earth and made him FUCKING KILL HIMSELF. In the end Robin Williams was a giver, he loved, he shared, he made people laugh and I'm sure all he wanted was love from a woman, but he was a nice guy, so he got fucked over and over.
This is what is so sickening about TRP is that even great men have no idea what kind of bullshit women set them up for.
Robin Williams died because he gave this world infinite joy and received none of the love he wanted in return. If he had found TRP, imagine the difference it would have made in his life.

You should really edit your original post if you find the reference. or remove it as not to spread information that might be incorrect. I've done a bit of looking and haven't found anything on it. it would certainly benefit the media to redact that information anyways because it would make his wife look like a murderer.
[–]Entrefut0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
It's honestly irrelevant at this point if his third wife divorced him or not. The post was about how fucked up marriage is and considering he killed himself, his third couldn't have been much better than the first two. If she HAD intended to file for divorce we won't hear about it. She would never admit to it because it would make her look like a murderer and no one wants to be known as the turning point for fucked up divorce laws by killing off one of the most loved men in history. I won't edit my post, because I don't trust a woman who was married to a man and let him feel so isolated and helpless that he killed himself.
IMO she did murder him, divorce or not.
[–]EVILEMU0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
Being in a relationship doesn't make you immune to depression. Whether she contributed to the cause or helped him, we won't know and it's unfair to assume one or the other without evidence. Saying that she did murder him is the kind of shit that makes me glad we're innocent until proven guilty. I wouldn't want to live under your government. i'd rather someone be guilty and free than innocent and in jail.
[–]Entrefut0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Cold blood murdered him for his life insurance policy and the 1k he had left in his account after the two previous divorce rapes. Men are guilty regardless of being proven innocent in divorce cases. Now think about that and get back to me on type of government you DO live under and how you feel about it.
I have plenty of family and friends with knowledge or work experience about divorce. Any man who understands our legal system regarding marriage knows it's fucked and already has their loophole around it.
His wife probably tightened that belt herself, every nag, every unreal expectation, every unfilled desire that turned into a volley of shit tests.

Amen, It's fucked up. But, we understand why that's wrong and should strive to avoid that. Throwing every women in jail whose husband committed suicide would be just as rash as biased divorce courts. Depression doesn't just happen when you're sad. It can be much more severe and lead to chemical imbalances that effect the way you behave. He'd been struggling for this for years (maybe as a result of his ex-wives). Throwing blame on his current wife on a hunch isn't right to do, although we all can assume someone so close to him would be a significant factor.

I understand that being part of a group like RP can be liberating, but you should really take everything you read here with a grain of salt. There's a wide spectrum of RP beliefs and a lot of people that are moving through some of the stages of grief where they're just spouting hate. This can motivate some people to be very biased and non-factual. Just read enough to find your own place. Not everything is 100% RP shotgun to the face if an RP endorsed flair posts it. There's a lot of people here whom I find far too radical so I choose to read the stuff that I find interesting and I follow the posters that have consistently good and informative content.
Make your own opinions based on what you've seen. this is just a safer place to discuss it where you won't be ridiculed for breaking society's normal dating advice.
It's dangerous to blindly follow someone else's judgement. You don't have to take all of red pill or leave it. That's why it scares me when I hear things like...
It sounds like you're just a brainwashed RP-bot.

Just because my true 100% honest opinion had something to do with the redditt hive mind opinion! it meant I could not think for myself. So you had to come attempt to bring righteous justice to the situation and assume I was too dumb to form my own opinions. Your opinion was more typical and closed off than mine was.
Your opinion was politically correct, just by YOUR standards and an all around boring, in-definitive assessment of the situation where men can be held responsible for the financial well being of women, but women cannot be held even slightly accountable for the emotional well being of their man. Even though one being taken away can lead to death and the other leads to the development of a self sufficient adults who understand the value of money.
I'm not judging your response by how radical it was compared to how society teaches us to behave, I called it out because you matter-of-factly say that you're sure that she was the reason of his suicide. It's silly to say that she could have tied the rope herself because it's such a complex matter that it can't be interpreted like that unless she literally did tie the knot. There's too many actors in motion in order to be sure of what caused his suicide. We have motivations and evidence, but can't be sure they didn't love each other unless he left a note explaining why he did it. Stating so vehemently that you know she did it seems biased to ignore the rest of the variables that were in play.
It's much harder to rule on emotional damage in the courtroom when it isn't physically outward or apparent. It's a nightmare to have to assess how actions made a person feel or to gain a full picture of someone's emotional state and how it is affected to countless variables. We as the public know only a small portion of what robin williams was dealing with because most of that information was private to him. There could be 1000 different things contributing to his depression that he hadn't talked about or weren't exposed to the public. Basing your decision on what you've seen and an assumption leaves too much doubt for the honest motivation for his suicide.
Not did it, contributed. Yes there were lots of variables and the women in his life were the largest, guaranteed. I can say it, because my belief system is strong in the truths that back TRP. You can sit here and argue about the complexities of the situation and dismiss the emotional problems that contributed to his death because it is so vastly complicated, but through my system it isn't. If you had done your research from Robin's day 1 to his final day, you'd realize the women in his life had always given him more trouble than any other source. Their combined efforts and simultaneous failures to understand the male viewpoint due to their selfish entitlement belief systems all slowly ripped away his being. That's my matter of fact, tortured from day one.
There's too many actors in motion in order to be sure of what caused his suicide.
Sounds like some politically correct regurgitated bullshit to me.
but can't be sure they didn't love each other unless he left a note explaining why...
If he was in love, why did he kill himself? Easy answer, he wasn't in love.
We as the public know only a small portion of what Robin Williams was dealing with because most of the that information was private to him.
So why doesn't his wife come out and clear the air? Because she didn't even understand his emotional conflicts, she wasn't capable, because she didn't want to look at it from a mans viewpoint. She had the tools and she had taken the job, but she refused to do the work, because she gets the paycheck, but then decides to push the challenging emotional strains onto someone else. If the girl I'd decided to share a life with was in his situation, I'd get her out of it, but I guess you're right and that's my bad. I failed to understand the feminine viewpoint which you have so elegantly highlighted. 1000 is far too many things to help someone sort through and decide to continue living, in the end, she can't be held responsible, because that would be silly. It's not like marriage is some kind of moral contract that's been desensitized into a wedding, a paycheck and an excuse to have a kid and never work again.
Either way, we won't reach a conclusion. I'll agree to disagree.
Either way, we won't reach a conclusion. I'll agree to disagree
You aren't required to read any of this. It's just my thoughts, reply if you care to. I enjoy having these kinds of debates.
I'll be more specific then. Robin had had severe problems with drinking and drugs in the past. He also was developing Parkinson's disease. This is in additional to two ex-wives and a current wife that doesn't sleep in the same room as him. Lots of shit going on for him. The public spotlight is enough in itself to drive lots of celebrities insane.
Certainly may be a reason, but being in love doesn't shield you from being depressed. Being in a bad relationship isn't the only goal in life or the only area to pass/fail. Happily married men could become depressed because of their job or social life.
So why doesn't his wife come out and clear the air?
Because she may want to protect his image as a loving, happy comedian. They don't show pictures of the deceased looking unhappy at their funeral, it's about the image they had and the good things they've done, not how they died and what led to it. If he had a bad habit of self-abuse and depression, no one talks about it, especially close family. they leave that to the news to speculate.
wedding, a paycheck and an excuse to have a kid and never work again.
According to traditional social gender roles yes. But that doesn't mean that a man couldn't stay home and raise the kids. Ya, men get the short end of the stick, but now you don't have to be as strong as a man in order to make a living and that's why women aren't confined to raise the children when the man works. you can make just as much (or more) in the office doing work that both a man or women could excel at.
More often than not, the women raises the children when the man works. Some families put the kids in daycare while they both work. Honestly i'd rather someone be home because that's the type of household i was raised in. I don't accuse women for being there for their kids but it's wrong if they take that for granted and don't respect the work that the husband is doing for them. If you want to raise a family you don't have to follow traditional unfair gender roles.

Hope. The belief that no matter how shitty you were treated by someone last time, the next person is different and loves you unconditionally. That's where the bitterness comes from when initially swallowing the red pill. It's the understanding you're not just having bad luck with women, it's that AWALT and you will never find someone willing or even capable of loving you as you deserve.

I was watching his comedy "The Crazy Ones" just two days ago - the show was cancelled after one season and may have exacerbated his depression.
He looked tired - his eyes were heavy, he seemed heavier. It was seeing someone who had such a sparkle in his eyes and he seemed as though he was carrying around a weight and despite the jokes and the smiles, something was amiss!
Guess it all came crashing down for him and he couldn't deal with it anymore!

Everyone is in a different situation.
No.
What's naive is believing that each and every single situation is somehow unique and can't be parsed out using information from other situations. The fact is, there are many common factors involved in relationships, and the events that play out in marriages and divorces can be analysed. We can learn from RW's example.

Two divorces and a suspected impending one, millionaire or not that takes its toll on a man. Saying its irrelevant seems like wilful ignorance. Millionaires can be heartbroken too. One of the arrogant beliefs of the everyman is the rich and/or famous are impervious to mental problems. They're not, and they have the wealth to medicate it with narcotics. Their problems are caused by people rather than poverty and most of the people causing their problems are equally powerful and thus almost above the law. It's especially cut throat at the higher leagues, ask Dave Chapelle.
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I think you and I are agreeing on the same thing, right?
My belief is Robin Williams was mentally ill and that lead to substance abuse, divorce & a degree of financial hardship. My feeling is the OP wants it to be re-ordered with substance abuse, mental illness and financial hardship coming as a cause of being married and getting divorced.
[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
Well correlation does not imply causation, we can but only speculate whether divorce caused his problems or whether his problems caused divorce - its a cliche chicken and the egg type deal. If sources close to him say his divorce was causing him distress, who are we to refute that? Do we possess sufficient evidence that can counter the assertions of those who knew him? Of course not, none of us knew him. The body of evidence (the testimony of those who knew him best) would suggest he killed himself due to depression caused by yet another divorce (timing is everything - considering his current wife apparently filed a few days prior)
Alcohol and cocaine can cause dependence but not depression, they do not cause depression, they are used to medicate depression/anxiety and some people are so depressed without them they need these substances to be functional, alcohol is a sedative and cocaine a stimulant, they nullify pain they do not cause it (at least not directly, but how you behave when using them may cause pain to others.) They are not hallucinogenics, hallucinogenics are what cause mental illness/schizophrenia via hallucinations with things like DMT and shrooms and in some people, weed (depends on your physiology and the strain of your weed you're smoking, there are hundreds.)
It seems there is more testimony to suggest that he was traumatised because he was getting divorced and not getting divorced because he was traumatised (and in that case if we are to avoid casting any blame on his wife, then why is his wife not supporting him in his time of need - oh that's right it proves an RP concept: Briffault's Law) but seeing as none of us actually knew him and plenty of groups will try to co-opt his death to somehow serve their own agenda as his death is basically viral at the moment, we'll never know the truth. Personally I don't think it's far-fetched to say a third divorce did him in, the article I linked you to says divorce is responsible for male suicide and it's not the only source/publication making such claims. Wilfully claiming the contrary without any evidence is worse than claiming what is being claimed here by OP with merely circumstantial evidence.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
But there's a pattern, a third point that seems to mark a trend. A happy, well adjusted person does not simply become an addict. He was sick. And that's not a subjective statement, it's a fact. We was an addict that couldn't keep clean long term. It's sad and honestly, I don't feel like either of us should continue this as in the end, it means little to nothing to either of us. If there's anything you want to say to refute what I believe, please do but I won't be responding on this anymore.

Yes, they do. Depression can be innate. I am getting the impression from my readings that this was very long term.
However, women do leave men because of depression.
And the women are often very bitter--they feel betrayed or tricked.
[–]esco_5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
Depression can be thought of as having a biological/genetic component, as well as being triggered by negative life events
There is research showing that significant negative life events (e.g. a bad divorce, losing your job, an injury in some sort of accident, death of a loved one) act in a cummulative way. Risk of depression goes up with each one, although after around 4 of those events there is a significant jump in risk.
So its like this: An underlying vulnerability (genetic component) is triggered by stressors resulting in depression.
Maybe his divorce(s) were significant stressors, we probably will never know. In any case, his depression can't be solely blamed on one stressful event

the main causes of the TRP
TRP doesn't have causes, dude. It's seeing the world the way it really is. It's not about changing the world so that it fits your desires.
Learn from this guy's tragedy and never get married. In fact, do one better and never enter into an LTR. Never commit. Never have kids. Never give up the leverage you have when you can walk away at a moment's notice.
Follow that advice and you'll be happier than you would have been even in a successful marriage. If a woman loves you and is good to you, then treat her well and the two of you will be happy together - just like if you'd gotten married. If (when) it doesn't work out, you can walk away without the strings of government interference leading to the burden and depression that Williams endured.
That's the TRP way. It's not a cause, it's a path.

I want to one day have children! Heck, pretty much every man here would one day perhaps love to have his own kids!
I love my nephews and nieces but I want to have my own someday.
What about guys like us?!!
The only problem with that is you are relegating your genetics to the evolutionary scrap heap. And thats one of the major things people think life is about in the first place, not seeing your family line die with you. Id question if most men could be happy with those kinds of constraints. Not to say the path is necessarily wrong, but how many men are willing to take it.

[–]LAMFF 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago [recovered] (8 children) | Copy Link
I'm curious is discussing alimony reform as an issue that is pertinent to men of TRP also wrong? Would you vote for a politician who proposed alimony reform even if you were never going need it because of the wise decision not to get married?
Let me put it this way:
Red Pill is about trying to see the world as it really is; it should shun dishonesty and idealism, focusing instead on pragmatism and means of coping with reality.
Movements are about making things happen. Movements make concessions about truth. Movements lie to curry political favor. Movements censor themselves and play politics. They become compromises, sometimes for good reason. But they are not vessels in which to store observations about the reality of life.
The MRM is a movement--look at the compromises it makes. Tone policing has become a regular event. Its goals are trimmed and finessed in attempts to gather new members. It accepts concessions to a feminist controlled reality and tries to rework its message/ambitions to fit pragmatically with the current power structure. It is open to constant adulteration by its enemies and has to make choices about what "truth" it is able to pursue.
Red Pill is passive because it is a depository of observations and discussions about what is or is not and it has no reason to compromise because it has no goals which the world can leverage against it.
That's my view.
[–]DexterousRichard5 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
To put a slightly sharper point on it, TRP is about knowledge and doing things within your control based on that knowledge. Laws are effectively outside our control.
Trying to influence things outside your control fucks you up and makes you dependent on others.

Thank you. While your response comprehensively explains your philosophy of TRP it does not answer my question about voting for a politician who ran on a platform of alimony reform. Even if you have no intention of ever getting married.

I would vote for the politician.

One thing I don't think a lot of people realize is that actors' salaries (even very famous ones) shift drastically over time and if the wife is getting some outrageous alimony payment, the amount should at the very least be adjusted to fit the income of whoever she's suckling. The whole situation is extremely sad for multiple reasons. But I suspect unfortunately, that the issue of the immense disparity in how the laws treat divorce will go unaddressed here

This is speculation and confirmation bias. I come here for plainly spoken truth, not conjecture (even if it furthers our narrative).

Jesus, the man was going to make Mrs. Doubtfire 2. That would be enough to get me to kill myself, forget about the wives and divorce rape.
No one forced the guy to get married three times.

Relevant, but TRP is not a newsfeed. We don't want to devolve into griping about the latest BP atrocity in the headlines.
Not happy to, but I think I have to remove this.

If he comitted suicide because of divorce rape, he is a total loser.
If he committed suicide because he couldn't afford his $35 million estate any longer, he is also a total loser.
He had kids.
He is not a MAN.

It must be great up there on your moral pedestal arbitrating vilification as you see fit. How's that judgemental narcissism going for ya?
Dude he was mentally ill and also an addict. Come off your high horse.
