If you decide to send something ballsy or something that may offend the recipient, don't give into that feeling that makes you want to say "hahah just kidding". Do not backpedal. This usually gets a positive response, in my experience. YMMV. As a disclaimer, this may not work, but it sure is better than backpedaling.
