When I was fresh out of college and started my first job, I started engaging in this kind of planning and documentation. I still have my saved to do lists and completed lists, weekly and monthly and annual self-review and goal setting statements. I was "successful" in my career, finances, and by most societal standards.
In the end, I despaired; I'd bound myself up in things I wanted, not things I enjoyed. There is a major difference. Achieving goals does not satisfy you. Really. Pursuing goals might. But rather, doing the hard work of actively experimenting and noticing what you enjoy, and what you can't shut up about, will help you structure your life more than tertiary goals.
Plans and goals are not sufficient to have a fulfilling life. By organizing your life around goals, you remove the opportunity for spontaneity. The majority of new opportunities - things that really changed my life - arose out of simple conversations, chance meetings, spur-of-the-moment decisions, etc.
I wrote a book because a colleague was complaining about the lack of simple documentation on a topic. Yes, writing the book took planning, but had I been so focused on my existing goals, I'd never have set aside the time for it.
I quit my job and traveled the world with a girl. We ended up running a hostel in Thailand for six months. Our plans evolved as we discovered more about what was possible; I'd have never decided to draft a plan for this from the beginning.
Having a plan to "have more serendipitous moments" does not work. However, you can do things to promote them. Get outside your comfort zone and talk to people about things that they are obsessed with, and try it out with them for a while. See where it goes. Experiment, experiment, experiment.
Seduction gives you the tools to have meaningful conversations with strangers. Use that ability to enrich your own life.

I have a 5 year plan. I change that plan at least twice a month.

That's a pretty good combination. You can answer interview questions honestly and yet pursue things that pop up.

Seddit, I know many of us are struggling AFCs without the greatest inner game. I know we all have some bad habits that we are trying to break, not only in order to be successful with women but to be successful with life. My friend sent me this short document yesterday to help me budget my goals and become successful. I took a look at it just now and have decided to share it with you. I know that many of us have access to Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy and other therapeutical books that are willing to tackle our problems. I found this one page guide to be really simple to follow and easy to understand as well. Anyways, enjoy.

Cool document. Would you please post it as a comment, so I don't have to transcribe it from the image file?

The purpose of th is document is to provide you with a complete and unequivocal gu ide to success. Principles
You have an obligation to yourself and to the world to achieve your goals and exact your values
You have an obligation give nothing short of 100% on every task you perform.
You have a limited amount of time, and can therefore do limited things
Setting up an end-time for a task is by definition un optimal-ifou can't make it, then you waste time feeling guilty, and if you can make it, you waste time because you "have time."
S. There is an optimal methodology fo rorganizing actions toward various goals such as to minimize negative effects of boredom, tire, anxiety, and overconfidence.
a. For each day, and the next two, have a list of actions that satisfy the following template:
i. 1 primary task ii. 2 secondary tasks iii. 3+ tertia ry tasks iv. Relevant down~time tasks v. Relevant break~time tasks
b. For each week, have a list of goals that satisfy the following template:
i. 1 primary goal ii. 2 secondary goals iii. 3+ tertiary goals
c. For each monch, your preparation tasks are slightly more extensive.
i. You need to think about where you are in pursuit of your goals, and where you need to be.
Make some notes about this, and retain the analysis in your memory as well.
ii. Next, you must orchestrate a plan for accomplishing what you need to during the month. This plan must at least consist of, in its barebone form: 1. The sequence of actions that will lead to the accomplishment of each goal 2. The poss ble impediments to achieving that goal, and solutions to them 3. Analysis of the state of all areas of one's life, their intended directions, and key
perspectives and events to be aware of in the coming weeks
4. An honest evaluation of one's goals and the efficacy of this system.
d. After each task, evaluate what you've accomplished, what's going on around you, and what you need to do next
The criteria for deciding what to do next are simple
a. You do the most important task that you have the capacity to do, unless there is another that would yield better results at that time.
It's im portant to plan to be able to carry out the tasks that you should be doing at any given time, so think in advance, and be prepared with whatever materials you may need .
You must keep track of what your monthly, weekly, and daily goals are. Furthermore, you must be able to adjust them as needed. Therefore, keep a clear, concise log of what they are in a digital document.
Crushingone's old habits and becoming the best person possible is not easy. In many ways, it will be like going through drug withdrawal, and in others it will be in credibly scary and negative. Yet, it's important to realize that it is impossible for you to live an authentic life, and therefore be happy, without doing exactly this. The positives will start to roll in as time goes by, however, and as you exert more effort and become more adept as a person.
You can do all of this. You will be so happy when you do. It is the only real way forward. Delaying this is wasting your time, and destroying yourself.

If you like Feeling Good, check out Intimate Connections. It's by the same author, its CBT based and generally agrees with what seddit has to say (being non-needy, having your own life first, ways to overcome AA etc.). This book is great and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Here's my question: if you have secondary and tertiary tasks for today, tomorrow, and the third day... do you make them all the same? If not, do you keep adding undone ones to the next day's list? Or... something else?
[–]nesatt 6 points7 points8 points 15 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A picture of text?! I know what your primary task is.

If we go and factor in significant digits they are one and the same.
But that is NOT the point!

Success, yes. Enjoyable life, maybe.
I for one like to be able to do whatever I feel like at a certain time, rather than having everything planned. Nothing beats good surprises and positive outcomes of spontaneous moments.
[–]jarde 1 point2 points3 points 15 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Won't you give the spontaneous moments more value if you have a system like this in place, but with a license to deviate from it?
[–]batshit_lazy 0 points1 point2 points 15 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Indeed I would, in the same sense that I would also give sex much more value if I had a system in place that said I could never have it.

Am I the only one really put off by documents like this? It'd take me longer to try to organize thoughts in this manner than to just do the things I wanted to do.

It basically says to set goals and then work to achieve them. How insightful. This is no more useful than the same stuff you hear from every "motivational speaker." This stuff might be useful if you're just slacking off and are unmotivated, but that's pretty much it.

Personally this is what I fear about seddit the most: Falsely changing lives to such a degree for vapid goals. See if a "Bad habit" brings about happiness should it really be considered a bad habit or really be strive to be change. Having goals is great, having plans is superb but really you should examine what you are changing about yourself and if you are becoming less genuine by doing so. In short don't live a lie like so many end up doing.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 15 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's a little too structured for the real world. A much simpler method which has worked in my success is simply follow this
Visualize where you want to be, and work towards that image of you every day. How you get there will change by the day, by the hour, by the week, whenever. Planning for that is a waste of time and will lead to frustration.
As long as you keep that image in your head and work towards it, you are improving yourself and working your way towards that goal.
For instance, if you want to build a guitar you might first need to learn how to work with wood. So you take lessons on wood working, then you find an interest in it. You learn to build some things out of wood and work on your skills in that. Eventually you get comfortable and learn how to work with the electronics. Then you realize you need to learn how to work with paint. Eventually you learn how to build that guitar item by item. But that's just ONE SMALL goal, and that might take a year or two to do it right.
If you have an ideal image of yourself, you might have 10-20 of those small goals in that ideal image of yourself. So you might have 10 to 20 years of work ahead of you.
GET TO WORK AND ENJOY THE RIDE. THIS IS LIFE, LIVE IT AND LOVE IT! Anything less is spitting in the face of a billion years of evolution. You took a billion years to get here. For fuck sake stop complaining about how much "your life sucks" or how "hard it is."
Just start working towards that image of yourself, whatever you want it to be. You literally can't lose doing that.

This is gold. I'm inspired. I need to prioritize what I need to do so that I can justify wasting my time later.
Lol. This document sucks. What a piece of shit. "it is impossible for you to live an authentic life, and therefore be happy, without doing exactly this." Bullshit. You will spend the rest of your life documenting and chasing your 'goals' and achieve nothing. Even getting to your goals will leave you unhappy.
Read that last line again and be observant of those around you who have 'succeeded'. Are they happy?
Here's a new paradigm to consider: You are completely successful and happy at this very instant. You lack absolutely nothing.
I recommend reading 'the power of now' as tolle masterfully explains living in the present (as opposed to the future or the past). It'll change your life in a profound way and put you on the right path.

Set goals for yourself that get harder and harder, and keep yourself on a moral leash with a diary.

This is amazing. Not just for seduction purposes, but for life in general. I'm implementing this once I get done with schoolwork for today.
[–]royalmarquis -1 points0 points1 point 15 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Why is it preferable to do 100% of X amount of things and not 90% of >X amount of things?
[–]Playd3ad 0 points1 point2 points 15 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't think that putting 90% effort into something is going to give you more time to do other things and i don't think the author was trying to suggest a correlation between the amount of effort and the amount of tasks completed. The point is that no matter what you are doing (even if its just taking a piss or washing the dishes) you do so with 100% of your capabilities. Live every moment fully, complete every task to the best of your ability and don't look back.
