Most of the time, I think women make up their decision about you before they know what car you own.
That said, a really nice car can get you noticed. Women who you see regularly (where you live, work, and exercise) will see you getting in and out of it. As always, it's up to you to make a move.

Up until recently, I had a piece of shit car with a banged up hood. Never stopped me.

Right on. Still getting his
[–]LaCaipirinha 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
Sure and you can still get laid if you don't dress very well but we all advocate dressing well as it helps.
Are cars the exception to the rule of displaying high value?
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
More like most men here can afford to dress decent, so it's part of the rule set.
If they added "Have an expensive/stylish car" to the rules it would put off too many men who can't afford one.
[–]LaCaipirinha 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Absolutely, dressing well is low hanging fruit, no reason not to pick it, but my question is is having a nice car actually high hanging fruit or is it not even fruit at all ie. "makes no difference".
[–]flyingfijord 10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It gets attention but thats about it. Nothing more. If someone gets interested in you because of the car, just run away as fast as you can. Nobody needs toxic gold diggers. Treat them as bitches they are. They do not deserve your decency.
[–]Naverno2 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
If someone likes you because you dress nicely , does it mean they are toxic “clothes diggers.” Or if they like your body, does it mean they are body diggers. I don’t get the logic.
[–]flyingfijord 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Someone can like your car, someone can like the way you dress or generally how you look. It’s not a problem they like you because your overall personality. It only becomes a problem when those are the only things they like about you. Remember you are a person, you’re somebody.
[–]Naverno2 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Everyone is a person and somebody.

> If they added "Have an expensive/stylish car" to the rules it would put off too many men who can't afford one.
Duh. If those were important to me, I'd WANT to put off anyone who didn't have them.
[–]Fecund_Sweet 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I don't know. But as a straight cis-woman, I again will say, guys who use language like, "high value" and "Alpha" are repellant. You cannot quantify a human being numerically. If you do, there's something wrong with you.
Do yourself a huge favor and DONT BUY INTO THIS NARRATIVE. It's bullshit and damaging to your development as an actualized adult.
This guy is living proof. I didn't understand what the draw was, but if you watch the segment, you'll see he has all of the women, and even the Good Doc hysterical laughing.
[–]princessxmombi 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
100% agreed. Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted.
[–]Fecund_Sweet 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because if they acknowledge my point as valid, they have to accept responsbility that it's incumbent on them to be better people. It's hard to commit to becoming better than it is to pretend you have no control. It's easier to believe that a car is the answer.
[–]Naverno2 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Maybe alpha male is too crass, but “high value” is an appropriate term. Regardless of the gender, people want something good for themselves.
[–]_______Moo__________ 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I think "fun" cars (Jeep Wrangler) matter more than "nice" cars (Audi sedan) but this is just an extension of fun itself being important.
In 2021 almost all commuter cars look pretty alright and function well. It's not what it used to be.
TL;DR Not important.
[–]MadHitchHiker 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
i.e. this is also why trucks will help get ya laid. Nothing like a girl climbing in your truck and laying her down in the bed watchin sunsets. 4x4 for the win
[–]Asian-_-Boy -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
what do you mean by fun cars?
[–]OldFriend3089 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
To me a “fun car” is a car that can give you an experience. Think like a custom Miata with a turbo or an off road truck that you can camp in. Compared to commuter cars or “luxury” cars that can only do so much. The best part is you can share the fun car “experience” with other people.

[–]MeaningImmediate5486 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I just had a girl ask to drive separately because my janky old car scared her on the first date. Not about to spend thousands of dollars to help my dating life. I’m desperate, but not at car prices.
[–]WiseOldSeoul 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
So many people are overthinking this question so much, obviously having a filthy, rusty old car that you don’t maintain is not gonna help you but that’s more about what it says about you and your personality. If you’ve a very average and normal car but it’s clean inside and out and you look after it, you’re fine. Doesn’t even need to be an expensive car, you just need to show you’re not an undisciplined person
[–]Fecund_Sweet 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Fuckin' thank you. I should leave this group, because so much horrible nonsensical information is passed around. You're right.
I had a cheap new clean car and I never had a woman notice me when I drove it. But now I have a more exotic European car and attractive women do notice me. If you are a good looking guy, you will do fine with an old beat up car too.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It does, and it doesn’t. I’d say age makes a difference in this avenue.
If you’re under 25, if you feel like a nice car is what’s holding you back from getting girls, it’s more so you than the car. I learned that the hard way myself.
Now, if you’re pushing 30 or over and you feel like having a nice car would bolster your chances, you may be right.
[–]Fecund_Sweet 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I think this is reasonable. But I will say, a guy who is a great time over 30, doesn't smell and has a good sense of humor will be a choice over the tool with the compact.
[–]LaCaipirinha 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What I don't understand about the discussion re the attractiveness of a man with a nice car is it's always loaded with this comparison between "guy with nice car" and "guy with everything else".
Nice clothes doesn't get you laid if you're socially awkward.
Smelling good doesn't get you laid if you're hideously ugly.
No one factor is usually enough to pique the interest of girls whether for serious or casual, it's a combination of factors, and my only question is to what extent is a fancy car a factor?
You could definitely argue that whatever benefit it has it doesn't reflect the cost of the car - you can buy a whole new wardrobe, a full set of colognes for any occasion for a fraction of the cost of a luxury car for example, or invest in skills and hobbies that makes you more well rounded and attractive in general - but putting value aside I just want to know why having a fancy car is particularly irrelevant relative to having fancy clothes/house etc. because we all know they go a long way.
My impression is that it's politically correct to say it simply doesn't matter at all and that this is now a stock phrase we all repeat because believing it allows us to save a lot of $, even though in reality it doesn't seem to be true.
You're talking about these factors as if they're equal in importance, though--they're not. It is not a 1:1 ratio. Some are worth more than others in determining the success of an interaction. And then add the fact that people's assignment of value to each of these depends on their personal priorities. That adds another layer of variability. Some of these also exist on a continuum, like how funny a guy is. So it's not possible to quantify these things in a linear model, which allows us to input one value to determine another. That is what you're essentially asking in your OP.
Again, you're adding another layer of variability by assigning an activity. Most of us were not offering insight as to how to get in a woman's pants. Getting laid is easier than finding a partner or even finding someone for a great night out.
Wrong. A guy that makes me laugh has my attention. However, Piquing interest is not the same as whether I'll engage him, or for how long, or what type of activity.
That;s what you're not seeming to get--all factors may be part of the whole, but these are not equal parts. And the level of importance varies from woman to woman.
I know you want a very quantitative answer, and I'm saying, there is none. To me, car means very little. One thing you didn't ask is, to what extent is a hot car factor "to whom"? I can only answer for myself, and I'm saying, very little.
You could definitely argue that whatever benefit it has it doesn't reflect the cost of the car - you can buy a whole new wardrobe, a full set of colognes My impression is that it's politically correct to say it simply doesn't matter at all and that this is now a stock phrase

Perhaps. But if you already have decided that this is a trope and not the reality, then why are you even asking? You seem to have made up your mind that this is very important.
we all repeat because believing it allows us to save a lot of $, even though in reality it doesn't seem to be true.
A. I don't give a fuck how much money someone else spends or saves. I get no benefit if you take my advice. IOW, I don't care if you spend all your money on a car. I don't care what you--a nameless, faceless stranger--thinks of me. So I have no motivation in telling you what will make you perceive me in whatever way.
B. If you want to get into someone else's head, you can't use the lenses through which you see the world. Everyone who answered allowed you to see things through their lenses, and you've decided that yours are best.
Here you go again, wanting to give a definitive, numerical value to these things--I'm telling you, it doesn't work this way.
but putting value aside
No, you mean putting NUMERICAL value aside. You are equating cost with value---they are not the same.
I just want to know why having a fancy car is particularly irrelevant relative to having fancy clothes/house etc.
Everyone on this thread answered that for you.
because we all know they go a long way.
Again, why did you ask if you [think you] have the answer? To me, they are not a priority, so they don't go a long way. The implication is that all women work and think the same way, lol. If only.
No. I'm a city person, born and bred, and will die here. My father's family are New Yorkers, and so he never learned to drive until my parents got married and Mum taught him. I think my auntie still doesn't drive, either. I don't drive and I admit, I don't want to. In Europe, this is not an uncommon phenomenon, either.
If a woman gives a shit about this, you don't want her.
[–]princessxmombi 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This makes sense. I’m also from a large urban area and it’s not unusual for people to not even have cars there. It may be more important to people who grew up/live in suburbs/rural areas where you have to own a car to get by, but I’ve just never cared what type of car a guy drives.
In my eyes, it's completely utilitarian. But other people tack on value judgments and that's where we have a problem.

My car has no AC, smells like gas, and is slammed on coilovers... I’m pretty sure an Audi would bump me up a few points. But just remember, Eliot Rodger had a nice car but no girl, so there’s more to it than materials
[–]HeavenPiercingMan 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Jesus fucking christ. It's been 7 fuckin' years and he's still in the pop consciousness.
The Rodge truly achieved immortality.
Irony there.

That guy is the shining example of guys with major issues whose cars serve as a suggestion that they do, in fact, have issues.
Women can smell that level of insecurity and affectation a mile away. It's not cute.
[–]Drinxbleach 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I’ve definitely thought of that but I come to the conclusion of “all men with nice things are compensating for something?” If I can comfortably have a AUDI R8 I’m 100% having the car. If my penis looks small while I’m driving it then so what. Most women won’t leave their house without an expensive outfit or full face of makeup. Meanwhile I’d be driving the Audi with sweats and crocs
LOL, well correlation is not causation. It's just a theme that's present, it won't mean something every time. IOW, every guy with a nice guy isn't necessarily overcompensating, that'd be inane to say. I'm just pointing out that the OP shouldn't stress on it.

I think yes, but not in the usual instance. For me, getting my dream car (79 Z28) would help me get girls, but it wasnt the car that got the girls, its the way it changed me, getting my dream car fills a hole in me and it made me more confident and gives me a goal to work towards ( fixing the car up ). The majority of girls likes confidence over anything else.
[–]gumdrops1 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've dated some hotties and I've never owned a car newer than 2003. Take from that what you will.

[–]donelgringo 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Can't be generalized at all. Hoes, gold diggers and attention seekers will be out for it. The individual character of the woman matter here alot. I've talked about this with chicks and thrown the line "Some chicks like the car more than the guy". She agreed. (She had girlfriends like that). So be careful. A good chick wont give a shit about your car when she likes YOU.
TLTR: My last gf was previously with a very rich guy. She was kinda out for the money usually she admitted, not in my case though. After all she dismissed him for me while I'm not rich at all.

Wait until car prices after the pandemic. We’re in an artificially inflated market for many goods, especially used and new cars. Demand is through the roof, although interest rates are low.
I have a 2016 Corolla with black rims. Does it’s job and I’ll save for 18 months then get myself a nice 1-3 year old used German car for my 30th birthday.
[–]WingKing903 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]Twobithatter 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It does depend in the girl and the car. I went on a date not too long ago where the girl asked me what type of car I drive. I told her I drive an old Nissan and she laughed saying to stop playing. I used to drive an old lifted toyota tho and would tell girls I was straight country even tho Im clearly not. This seemed ti work pretty good. But ya a car does play a good part too,
[–]NateHate1402 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don’t even have a car and I don’t have a problem so I imagine having a car could only be a positive despite it’s state.
[–]prtkjnn 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sadly it doesn't..
[–]onelunchman96 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Nope! In my case I got a new car and still didn’t score with the ladies. Though usually things end before they can see it
FTR, I've noticed a pattern that guys who have really hot cars don't have any game. A lot of people believe that men subconsciously modulate their self-esteem via cars. Just food for thought...
[–]GreenFalcon5 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't care what I drive. But I have always gotten my dad's old car which are always Mercedes. This is how much I care. Nothing
Maybe I should edit my earlier response, but I guess I'll mention it here....
OP: It all depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for something real and meaningful, then not as much. If you're looking for someone to have sex with, well. I think it still doesn't matter, lol. The girls who fuck you because they like your car are probably gonna offer a clunky experience. Steer clear of any women who ask you about your car as a requisite.
[–]alone_forgotten_dead 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Looks in general don't matter
i guess it depends on your financial status. if you got some money earned already and wanna have a nicer car, go for it. but if the car eats up like 50% of you income just to show of its probably not worth
[–]ZippyYolo 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It doesn't matter to most. What does matter is that you care about what you have. So keep it clean and free from rubbish, like you would your clothes, home, body, etc. To show that you have respect for things.
The people who care about the price tags on things have different expectations - which is fine - but there are many who are looking for a good, respectful person to be with, not just a fancy car to share.
[–]yuckyuck13 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
How clean it is matters.
[–]HeavenPiercingMan 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Don't have, not a priority to me. Too much of a financial hassle. Too unsafe to have one, they're carjacking everywhere where I live. I like the simple life, I like walking everywhere. Cheaper to pay for transport than for gas, permits, maintenance, etc. Will only get one if absolutely necessary, not interested in a show off car. It's supposed to be a tool.
I will die on that hill.
[–]princessxmombi 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Dressing well can improve your physical appearance. I don’t think a car does that. All that matters to me is that it’s reliable. A car isn’t even necessarily a sign of success or wealth as I know many people who have money but just don’t care to have a car for anything other than practical purposes. Plenty of wealthy dudes driving 12 year old Hondas and Toyotas.
[–]life_tree 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Girls care negatively. In that, if they have doubts, it's a piece of evidence.
If they're positively into you, I don't think it matters a lot provided it's not a beater.
[–]midguet12 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It doesn’t make any difference to the girls It makes a difference to you You will obviously feel more confident if you have a better car
[–]emmelh8s 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No, I don’t even drive
It doesn't matter. But it helps.
