What makes you anything but a generic guy who asked fairly generic questions? Maybe you're drinking interesting tea and have funny cousins, but that's about it... You may have been mildly amusing for a bit, but it sounds like you might have been too focused on getting digits than building attraction and rapport. Maybe watching some Wygant would help with situational openers and then you can transition into stock routines.

Keep in mind, though, that I say this with respect - good for you for getting out there and actually doing it.

I can think of a few things.
Body language might have made what you were saying seem forced.
I haven't seen the video, but he may have been reading any IOIs and gauged is response to it. Since you copied word for word, the next line might not have been the best.

The tattoo opinion is good as an opening but it's not really rapport building. The idea with rapport is that you want to find out something unique about her as a person and appreciate that. Her giving her opinion on your friend's tattoo probably won't accomplish that unless she happens to share something about herself.

When you asked about her accent, that would have been a good time to transition into rapport. Once she tells you: "I'm from so and so" or "I actually grew up around here," that's when you build on what she's told you rather than changing the topic with an opinion. If she tells you she's from another place, you can ask her what inspired her to move here. If she says she's local, you can ask why she likes it here.

Day game doesn't respond well to routines. You have to be fully present in the moment and able to deal with the unpredictable results you'll be getting.

I think there's an inherent problem with most canned stuff (and why the community is moving away from it) that's kinda hard to explain- but basically, if it's canned, it's not very "natural" unless you really have it down to a T.

For all we know, you could've been forcing some of those lines even though the girl had responded in a way that would make the next line a bit out-of-place.

If you had said all those things naturally, just as a normal conversation, you probably would've gotten better results. Though even then, like nip90 said, nothing in that routine seemed too exciting, so your success is gonna come from good body language, at least decent looks, and some other factors that have nothing to do with the routine itself. I'd also recommend looking at some Wygant shit to see why it's better to just open situationally and naturally.

That's kind of like doing two openers in a row. First you ask for directions and then you do the tattoo opinion opener. You can always run another opener if you run out of steam with your original opener, but you really should be on to other material by then. There are a couple of negs in there, you'd have to improvise by that point.

Sometimes I think some of these canned game routines aren't specifically designed to be useful, but they do improve your game. You run the routine over and over so you see all the potential outcomes. You start seeing patterns of responses and learn how openers work in general.

It's probably your delivery. Like you said, you probably weren't smooth and that gave away the fact that your lines were unnatural/canned. If she notices even one little thing that's off it can make you look awkward or put her on guard. I'd just keep practicing it until you get it down to a tee.

A common problem with canned material is that it isn't congruent. It's hard to tell whether this is the problem here though. Also, you probably have to practice more. Mystery says you need to try an opener/routine ~20 times or something before you get good at it. It's all about calibration.

The tattoo routine you ran sounds like it could have suffered from this (straight from the Venusian Arts Handbook). That is to say, it wasn't rooted and it seems like it came out of nowhere. If instead you said something like, "So my cousin called me this morning with some shocking news and it's been on my mind all day..." or whatever, it may have seemed more natural.

I always open direct and afterwards have a normal conversation where I convey value. Opening direct is ballsy and some chicks think it's romantic.

Anyways here's my opener

Me: Excuse me...I saw you walking by and I'd regret it all day if I didn't say hi...I think you're pretty

I can gauge her reaction on the spot. If I feel she's interested, we'll just have a normal conversation about each other's interests, work, etc.

Whole conversations are about 5-10 minutes before I go for the close.

But in her mind I'm a guy that had the balls to approach her on the street, and she had a interesting conversation with. That's why she'll give me her number and she'll remember me.

If you delivered this really well and had great non verbals you might get some numbers from it.

Look at it this way though:

You ask a girl for directions
You ask an opinion on a tattoo
You ask for her number

It's not quite that easy. You need to show a little bit of personality. Just go direct, and freestyle the conversation. You'll end up standing there with girls in silence sometimes, but eventually you'll learn spontaneous conversation skills.

I totally agree with daygamer. If you're out day gaming go direct. It will save you time, and get you many more numbers.

And if you don't have anything to say at some point in the direct approach, just tell her you got no idea what to say... and ask her the first thing that pops into your head.

In the direct approach you'll learn to recognize the structural elements of conversation and eventually learn to use them to your advantage while you're free-styling. Direct day game is probably the most structured type of game, which makes it fairly simple and straight-forward. No need for lengthy and elaborate routines, if you ask me.

If you insist on using this routine, field-test it more than just once. It's somewhat similar to the stuff I usually used before I became a direct gamer. But just think about it this way; why would a girl give you her phone number if you just ask her for directions / opinion on a tattoo?

You gotta give her an SOI, man! You gotta give her a genuine reason for wanting her phone number and for taking her to that cafe. Verbalize that the reason you're talking to her is because you think she's cute and I suspect you'll come across way better - stronger, certainly.

thats Alex Coulson's day game.....

its a good use of banter/humour, but it doesn't appear that you made any physical connection (rapport). Another problem is that your using rehearsed lines, try adapting teases ect.. to a more natural game.
