I like feeling them out over messaging/text first. It's only about 20 messages before, "We should continue this conversation over a drink. Free tomorrow night?"
You don't need anything leading up to it, just ask it in the middle of the convo if you feel it's going well. That's just me though. If I wanted to put minimal effort and just wanted to bang, I think I like your approach.
[–]-II---------II-17 points 10 years ago* [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link
I agree with you. I mentioned demographics in my post and your comment really hits on that. Since I am a uni student and I use tinder exclusively for casual sex, I am interested in cutting out the bullshit and getting to the point.
If you are in, say, an older demographic then many women you match with might not be interested in casual sex or a direct approach. They may want to be wooed first.
Personally, I keep my eye open for relationship material in real life situations only. If I went on a tinder date and she turned out to be the most amazing girl then I would change my approach and take things a bit more slowly.
As I said: This all comes down to demographics. A more direct approach is always better but the approach I have offered is the most socially acceptable, yet direct, approach to go from messaging to the bedroom. If that isn't the goal of your demographic then rethink it. I think this opener stands out for its high response rate and that is the most important takeaway for me. As I mentioned, I have never had great "text game" or whatever you'd call it.
There is a dude further down the thread who says that you can't be this direct where he is from. Again, demographics. (I would say to that guy that I am from the UK and not the USA, though.) Maybe a reformed version of this opener could be made, using it more as a conversation guide.
I'll have a think about it and I will post a more subtle version tomorrow with conversation tips, saying what has and hasn't worked for me in the past.

I actually liked this approach, it will cut out any flakers, girls that are there only to get attention or followers on Instagram. You will save an enormous amount of time. Will try.
[–]kingcal 16 points17 points18 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Tinder wasn't really a thing when I was single, but this is pretty much how I got a shit ton of OKC dates.
Cutting out pointless texting and just asking a girl out in the first three messages was a game changer.
[–]jackets19 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Within the first few messages online? I've always been go for the number immediately then through text set a date, just seemed like a more natural progression. It doesn't throw them off trying to go from online to meet right away? Just curious of your experience in case it's worth modifying my process
[–]kingcal 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Usually my first message was some comment or question about their profile. Shows you actually read it. Then my second message would be to suggest a date, usually live music at a bar, comedy show, outdoor activity etc... If they said yes, then I'd get the number. If not, then no time or energy wasted.
Girls on dating websites/apps literally want to meet dudes. Once you stop creating excuses about why an idea won't work and try it, you'd be surprised by how easy it can be.
[–]jackets19 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
I've had it happen with 3 girls now where I did OP's steps and the girl agrees for a drink, then when I try to continue it and plan a time and get her number she stops replying.. this is odd I'm just going to wait a day then follow up, but not even sure how to followup at this point.
edit: nevermind, got the # on 2 now. I think the delay just caught me off guard since we were replying at a good clip of less than 10 minutes per message now this one took an hour.
[–]kingcal 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
When asking for a date, don't just say "let's get drinks some time."
Be specific. Say "Let's go to X bar on Y night at Z time."
Either she says yes or no. No half-assing.
[–]jackets19 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yea I don't say sometime I specify tomorrow, but If she's unavailable tomorrow I do ask which day they're free though. Run into that issue with women that work nights. Then I'd specify the place and time.

You're talking about demographics and that made me think. Tinder in the USA is more of a hookup app than in the country where I live.
I tried this kind of directness on Tinder before and so far every single girl said I'm going too fast for them.
[–]SeedGoose12 points 10 years ago [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link
Assuming by your name you're from the Netherlands, what do you usually do on Tinder and what has worked for you previously?
[–]TheRealYellowClaw14 points 10 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
Yeah you guessed right. What has worked for me is a bit of chatting, but show really fast that you want more than just chatting.
A compliment about something like her clothes or the way she did her hair, invite her for drinks or some fun activity really quick in the convo.
So really basic stuff, doing the direct opener just doesn't work in my region. Maybe in the Randstad.
Succes met chicks fixen pik
[–]SeedGoose5 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Thanks for the reply, I will try this. I go to school in the Randstad, but I don't think just asking them out directly works here either. I've never tried it, but it feels weird. Little bit of small talk/her responses can give you some idea of what she's like and might just give you some more stuff to talk about on the date as well.
Thanks man jij ook!

Girls in netherlands are really different. Most are bossy and sassy, they often get surprised I don't eat their bullshit like most men that are soft (and ugly IMO, dutch people have this issue) here.
[–]SeedGoose2 points 10 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link
First of all, thanks for your reply. I don't want to generalize here, but I get what you're saying. I have had a similar experience in high school with a total bombshell. Definitely HB9 with an amazing ass. One of those girls that seems very sweet when you don't know her. Me and my friends became good friends with her (friendzoned of course, being the high school idiots we were). She would often be with us at lunchbreaks instead of her female friends and we would joke around. That went on for well over a year, and then suddenly she ditched us, like we were ''just some guys who share some of my classes'' to her. So we stopped giving her the attention she enjoyed having, to which she responded violently(mostly bossy and sassy like you described). Never intend to speak to her again, shit personality. I haven't had a lot more of these experiences myself though, but I've seen it happen regularly to friends.
most men that are soft (and ugly IMO, dutch people have this issue)
I don't understand what you mean by this exactly. Care to elaborate?
By the way, what do you place under ''not putting up with her shit'', such as a girl's behavior and your responses? I often put up with people's shit when I shouldn't, and I want to change that. Do you have tips on how not to be ''soft''?
[–]silver_nuke13 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Your example isn't really what i meant, i can see that happening anywhere. But really, most girls here have very thick voices and other manly features, it doesn't even intimidate me, it just repulses me.
Dutch guys are indeed a bit softer than in my own country, there are still cocky people around, but most of the time it's still 404 balls not found, saying sorry for absolutely anything kind of 'polite' men. I would help you, yes.
I like black knighting women here, by denying the pussy pass, it really gets them off guard, although you might need to take my advices with a pinch of salt (because i exaggerate many times, i'm kind of an asshole).
[–]SeedGoose1 points 10 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link
I live in the northern Randstad area. Which country are you from?
I agree with those manly features you talk about, but I see that as a product of how society has developed. Women show increasingly more manly features, most men increasingly more feminine features. Whole books have been written about that. Worrying development if you ask me, which is why I want to break out of it.
Thanks, will do. There's a thin line between being an asshole and an assertive, confident guy in my experience. I haven't found the right portion of assertiveness and confidence yet, I mostly overdo it and end up being an asshole, which sucks.
You may be exaggerating the softness of Dutch guys, it's not very different from the other Western European countries. They indeed do apologize for shit they shouldn't a lot though, and I'm glad I broke that habit.
[–]silver_nuke13 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Randstad? That's not very far from Amster, right? I come from Ro, but not going back to that shithole in a million years.
This might or not be a consequence of our development, or simply the people try to force trends trough feminism. I will make a detailed post on that some time. All i know is that it affects me negatively, but i can use it to my advantage since it already sorts out the competition pretty even.
Now. What kind of advice are you expecting? Stop holding doors, look STRAIGHT ahead when walking on the street (don't give validation to randoms), etc? It's true that practicing assholeness is a shock therapy out of niceguyism, but it's ultimately a crutch. What you need is the IDGAF and the GYB.
Why i'm saying that about dutch guys? Because i've seen a number of IMO pretty ugly dudes with smoking chicks. So i'm a bit bitter, little me. But I shouldn't, since I'm supposed to be in monk mode anyway.
[–]SeedGoose1 points 10 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link
The Randstad is not a city, it is the area between and including the four large cities in the west (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag and Utrecht). The middle of the Randstad is a protected area called "The Green Heart", which consists of mostly meadows, small villages and farmers. Rotterdam is indeed a shithole, fortunately I have no ties there. There are places far worse than Rotterdam though, such as Den Haag's Schilderswijk.
I'm having trouble combining assertiveness, confidence, politeness and fun in conversations. Whenever I try to adopt that mindset (often focusing primarily on confidence) in conversations I instantly turn into an asshole, and as you said that is a heavy crutch. My voice, which is quite low, does not help either. I just can't seem to find the right balance. This happens not only with girls, but everyone I talk to except good friends and parents. I was hoping you had any tips/examples on interacting and talking with people while combining all those traits. Or if someone else has e.g. in a book, where can I find it?
By the way, what does GYB stand for?
[–]silver_nuke13 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Grab Your Balls.
And no, you'll need practice. Practice with your voice, practice with flavors of people. I'm kind of in the same situation, you need to transcend both the nice guy and the jerk and become a great guy.
[–]SeedGoose1 points 10 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
Good luck man! This transformation tackles believes that you were taught from a young age. It was never going to be easy.
I have been doing exercises to get a deep low voice instead of just a low voice, and I noticed the effect is, though temporary, immense. I highly recommend doing them on the regular.

Huh, I just used this modified version of OPs post and it worked on the 1st girl I messaged. Even seemed like someone that would be totally opposed considering her profile had "I'm not going to have sex with you" on it. Only difference was my opener was just "name"!

Yea im sick of all the pointless chit chat waiting for hours for a reply. Hell im still waiting for this girl to respond to my invitation for a drink since last tuesday, doubt she will reply at all at this point.
Im gonna start doing that, but it seems girls are scared to just meet some guy from tinder.
[–]DJVendetta2 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
My Tinder app is full of girls who I WILL see in real life at some point (small city) yet most of them just straight up stop replying at seemingly random points.
Could I work on my game? Yeah, but I'm not 'ready' to go all out and straight up ask them out so I understand why it's happening.
Does it get me down? Not at all, I think it's funny. I regularly see these girls while on nights out and they love it when I approach.
[–]notafishtoday 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Love the name thing. It's the easiest way to get started. Just name and exclamation mark.
My follow up question is "how was your day?", I use this to find the conversationalists and weed out the bad ones.
In Melbourne I went on a ton of tinder dates. Had multiple girls going at the same time. It's not to brag but show mindset. I started like you, pushing for the first date, but it was expensive and took time. Slowly I began to talk longer online to get a feel if she was going to be a fun date.
Now I'm living in rural Japan. I'm talking to girls on tinder but the vibe is different. The nearest major city is 50 kms away. For this cost I want a connection before investing any more. Here it's an English study tool for Japanese girls.
Tip is to meet for just drinks not a date.. Much cheaper no dinner involved.
[–]notafishtoday 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I didn't say anything about dinner.
Drinks and transportation still cost money. Plus my time is precious too.
[–]TehBamboozler -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
What if you don't drink?
Drink orange juice. Explain to her why you don't drink if she asks.
[–]jackets19 -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Start? It's by far the easiest and most common/successful first date. Coffee doesn't have the same connotation to it that you might be hooking up right after since it's not really a night thing.

[–]blondedre3000 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
I feel like this would be way better if you posted some examples. That said there's one huge mistake here: you're not qualifying them. It's great for setting up tons of dates, but you can get burned out doing that pretty quick. I'd much rather pick and choose the best matches that I know won't annoy the fuck out of me or make me wish I was doing anything else.
[–]Anaron 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It's good to be direct but that's too direct. I find it helps to build comfort with a short conversation first before taking things off Tinder. In my experience, it's better to plan things after getting her number.
[–]peacemakerzzz 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
But I guess it still works, and fairly depends on the person being messaged.
[–]darkvinc1 points 10 years ago [recovered] (15 children) | Copy Link

I live in a small town. Tinder here can be used as a basic dating app as well as for hookups. Some girls are after more than casual sex. I'm on tinder to increase my chances of meeting new girls. Whether it be for casual or not.

Just lift work on your SMV then and then you can tell me game tips but TINDER is for hookups and it is based on SMV and SMV alone sorry fairytales don't exist.
tinder is for top 20 % male ( be that guy ) ( google it )
here is proof this guy is '' faking '' having aspergers and all kind of stupid shit and they hamster it all out because he's hot. NO opener will raise significantly your SMV enough for what you want

[–]-II---------II-10 points 10 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
You are essentially asking me to explain the whole theory of human interaction and social skills. There are libraries of material. I liked Mark Manson's book, although I learnt a lot of things the hard way and without reading up. Start with one of the more holistic guides and have a look at the sidebar here.
Hypothetically, let's say you are in a cafe at you see a girl that you think is attractive. First, approach her without hesitating. Second, say hi and introduce yourself. Third, ask for her name. That is human interaction 101. Talk about what is around you. Create a shared experience. Sometimes, I just jump into a story about something that happened in my day. Again, you need to practice or read up. Practice is scary. Practice can suck. Practice can be great. Practice is better. Practice is real.
My biggest piece of advice is this: You need to be confident about yourself first. Love yourself first and others will follow. I gave up girls for six months to focus on myself once. It was the best decision I ever made.
[–]abhigeek 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
