That’s a start. Now you just have to do it so much that you no longer care about the outcome. When you are outcome independent, paradoxically, your results will get better. One suggestion I’d make is instead of “offering” to go out for drinks... say...”hey, let’s go out for drinks.” Don’t say when even. Wait... don’t speak before her. It’s a subtle difference between a man of confidence (assuming she’ll want to go) and an apprehensive man. Good on you either wait for breaking the ice- like I said, just make it normal now. Never hesitate- just do.

Uhm is anyone going to point out to OP that he was flirting with an employee?

We rely on OP that he was charming and that she laughed encouragingly but the facts in this story are that he went to target, made "subtle" advances on someone who works there who smiled as they're paid to and was ultimately served with the standard excuse to get out of unwelcome flirtation.

I know this is a hurtful thing to hear but you shouldn't use service staff to practice your small talk/flirting and we shouldn't rely on OP that this was anything but harassement in her eyes. What's next? Going to Starbucks to flirt with the barista and feel empowered when she tells him she's not allowed to give out her number because you really think she really wanted to?

damn dude, you've inspired me with this post, I was literally just at Target like an hour ago doing the same thing, and saw a pretty cute employee that I thought I should talk to, but didn't, was very in my head and in that state of just wanting to be "comfortable" and not rock the boat in anyway that can be very hard to break out of for me, plus I'm just coming off of a long hiatus from anything even remotely close to game... it sucks because I know how easy and effortless it can be once you break through that initial hesitation since I used to game a lot before, but it can be so difficult for me to just suck it up and break through that initial barrier.

Good on you though man, now just need to carry that momentum and keep it up. And I'm def gonna go for it next time
