[–]a_critical_person 123 points124 points125 points 11 years ago (48 children) | Copy Link

How can you not be oblivious?
The better advice would be "Always assume attraction" and escalate.

[–]that-freakin-guy 93 points94 points95 points 11 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

100%

If you walk into a room and you see a girl looking at you, assume she's attracted. Even if she isn't, you have nothing to lose. As Wayne Gretsky Michael Scott once famously said, "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take." I'm always blown away at how terrible people are with talking to women because they think they're not interested.

I have friends from high school, and I'm the one that blossomed while they stayed nerdy. We're all getting to the point of success, ones in pathology, one is an architect, and one deals with major corporate online networks, amazing careers that girls would LOVE hearing them talk about with passion, but to them it's just alright. I get them in a room with a bunch of girls and they just freeze. I try to throw them into our conversation and they shut up after just a couple of words. But around just each other, they don't shut the fuck up.

Why? Why do they assume girls automatically aren't interested? Not being the most attractive can be overshadowed by passion and charisma, but these guys aren't even ugly. They're good looking dudes, albeit a bit nerdy, but still they have potential.

Just talk. Ask them genuine questions, ask them about who the fuck they really are, what they love about life. Maybe it's painting or writing or music or film.. They have to have something that they strive to do just because they love it, and if you can get them to talk about it, they will talk with passion and the conversation will carry itself.

Lots of exposure to situations with girls is a good solution. Or a shortcut would be tripping to get rid of that social anxiety. Helped a lot of people I know.

[–]lqdojo9 points 11 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Tripping? Like acid?

Not particularly. I was worse in the past but I'm much better now! Working towards 0% self confidence issues.

[–]that-freakin-guy 32 points33 points34 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Psychologically, we will all have residual and long lasting insecurities. You will never be 100% confident, as you will care about your weight, height, looks, clothes, etc. Insecurities are natural, but it's being able to wear your insecurities, acknowledge them, and be able to work around them that makes some people better than others. In person, I look like I'm 100% confident, yet I still suffer from insecurities much like everyone else. That's just how life goes.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

having insecurities isn't a bad thing,

you don't have to get over those insecurities, you have to OWN them.

[–]a_critical_person 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why? Why do they assume girls automatically aren't interested?

This could be total bullshit but here's my explanation:
The loss of social acceptance plays a huge role. The one who is investing more into someone (even if it is just a thought) is the one who is on a lower social lvl. That's because the person who invests wants something from the person he/she invests into (aka putting women on a pedestal).
The thing is that this is strongly bound to how you perceive the social hierarchy. Historically women are the ones who are lower in this hierarchy but nowadays they can freely choose who they want to date so they'll logically choose the best possibility.
But that's weird, isn't it? Men are still the hunters but the prey (women) has to decide if your hunt is successful or not.
What happens now is that many men won't try if the evidence isn't clear enough to be successful and women are waiting to be chased. That's the perception of both sides.
The conclusion of this is that most people simply follow to prevent a loss of social acceptance (which is in our brain since the caveman days, "if you aren't able to hunt you won't reproduce).

And that's why you always have to make a strong first impression. This allows you to shape how others see you.

[–]instagigated 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're perfectly right. In a situation where others can see you, the feeling of rejection to oneself is not as bad compared to people around you seeing your rejection. This "loss of face" as the Chinese infamously like to call it is a major factor in approaching a woman.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Pretty sure that's a LHO quote, actually.

There is a difference between assume attraction and being an arrogant douchebag. We aren't telling him to be a creep and act like hot shit, which seems out of his character anyway. We are telling him to assume that she is attracted to him and don't approach the date akwardly or on your heels.

I scored my wife (She used to be completely out of my league) because from date one, I treated her like we were already a couple. I had her saying I llve you within a month, and the key to her place. Assuming attraction works and acting like she is your girlfriend already (without the farts/akward stuff) are great tools for guys looking for LTR.

[–][deleted] 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]Chuuy 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with you, assuming attraction is arrogant. It's like when people confuse confidence with being confident in something (in this case, attraction), and being confident in one's self. In this scenario, confidence means that you don't care whether she is attracted to you. You just go for it because you have nothing to lose.

[–]WolvyWolfman 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You don't even necessarily have to go that far. Sometimes a simple "don't assume unattraction" suffices entirely.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Even when 99,9% of girl are absolutely not attracted? Im not an attractive guy.

[–]IreadAlotofArticles 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

How do you know a girl that you just looked at is not attracted to you? Do you just guess or based it off of past experience. Both of those are wrong. First off you aren't a telepath and I can bet your body language reading skill could use work(all of ours can always use work), so stop assuming based on that. Second past experience does not equal future experience nor present or whatever, every girl is different and since you haven't meant the entire female population on the planet I can bet you have some chances. So stop hurting your own ego.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Let me turn it around. When you see a ugly girl you will know she doesnt attract many men if at all. The girl most likely is aware of this.

Turn the gender around and you have me. My personality is nearly as bad as my looks.

[–]FuLLMeTaL604 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You can change a lot about the way you look just by being in shape, having good posture, having a great hair cut, being well-groomed and dressing well. If you have an ugly face you can still change your personality at least. Plenty of ugly guys with decent women.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is the truth. If only it was so easy. Doing those things requires a lot of resources. It requires time, money, self respect and discipline. And truth be told; I don't have anything of that.

I simply dont know where I should start.

[–]FuLLMeTaL604 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you don't have time or money, I truly feel bad for you bro because you should at least have one of those otherwise what's the point of having a job? Self-respect you can slowly gain as you make progress towards your goals. With discipline you can start by making small goals and following through. Go for a 15 minute run, 30 minutes at the gym or even body weight exercises like push-ups and pull-ups. The trick is to just go out and do it without giving in to your pessimism. Once you're out there doing it, at least for me, I feel obligated to complete or try my best at completing the task. Repeat that a few times and it will become a habit like brushing your teeth. Just don't take too long a break, like I tend to do, and you'll be routine with that.

Clothes can be pricey if you really want to stand out but you don't have to be GQ to be attractive to women. Having clothes that fit well and don't look like they belong in another era is probably the two most important aspects.

Personally, my problems are low self-confidence and inexperience. I have to get out of my comfort zone sooner or later though unless I can accept being alone forever.

[–]siegristrm 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Meditate about what you want to change.

[–]IreadAlotofArticles 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see girls I'm not attracted to have BFs all the time. Right now you are just a ball of self defeating bullshit. You need to learn to change your mindset. Start doing push up, sit ups and weightless squats in your room. Those take no money and 20-30 minutes a day. Sit up and walk straight, again no money and no time. Shower every day, no money and 5-10 minutes needed. If you are physically able of course. If you are, I highly suggest 20 minutes of yoga at least 2 times a week. Time invested so far is less than half hour a day, less than less than 5 hours a week. No money invested. If you can't find the time for this, they you don't care and are a ball of pity. This is you, make the investment and your attitude will change.

[–]VINCE_C_ 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In the end it is your personality, not looks, that is pushing people away. Work on yourself and you will see wonders.

If you are self-aware of this issue and you continue to do nothing about it, you are a helpless loser.

[–]a_critical_person 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

If your self-perception is that you are not attractive than - of course - you are not attractive.
What makes a person attractive?
Answer that question and try to turn into that person.

[+][deleted] -6 points-5 points-4 points 11 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

Discipline. Which I dont have. Which I cant get because I dont have it.

Edit: I don't really care about downvotes and karma, but it does send a very negative message that people who don't fit the /r/seduction image simply aren't welcome at all.

[–]jboleky 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How the fuck is downvoting someone who has an issue going to solve anything? Idiots

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sort posts by controversial. The bigger the problem the more downvotes it usually gets. You can get upvotes by repeating vague things about Mark Manson.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

stop looking for excuses

[–]juanappleseed 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Discipline is just habit and will power coming together. Can you brush your teeth with your opposite hand? If so, you have willpower. If you exercise that willpower daily and consistently, you build discipline. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. In concept anyways.

[–]little_banjo 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That backfired so hard for me. Before understanding women's signs of interest, I could rationalize my lack of luck with women as just not picking theirs signals. After knowing their signs, I finally reached the conclusion they have never shown any signs. I wish I could go back.

[–]RishFush 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Work out man and figure out what you want to be passionate about in life.

I've always been "cute" and "nice", but once I put on some muscle and started barreling down my life path, girls got aggressively sexual with me. It's wonderful. As long as you're decent looking and have love for women, you should get similar results.

[–]little_banjo 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I did. I recently busted my knee and now powerlifting is out of the question.

nah dude i'm Palestinian and its harder for us then it was. all woman were treated poorly and second hand citizens. my whole life i was taught to believe that way. it took me a while to figure out to treat them equally and most of the time it works out.

[–]Elder_Dolan 39 points40 points41 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This really is like the most depressing video I've seen in a while. Like poor Jimmy, poor Kidman.

Jimmy is like "I could of had her!?"

And she obviously felt really hurt at the time that he didn't like her.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It might be depressing if it wasn't so funny. Besides, I'm pretty sure they're both pretty well over it. Now if we could somehow be there to watch it as it happened 10 years ago... Now THAT would be depressing! (Still funny)

[–]Elder_Dolan 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh it's definitely hilarious. I just imagine being in that circumstance. Jimmy was exceptionally embarrassed.

[–]LukeSkyLurker 20 points21 points22 points 11 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

SON OF A BITCH! I cant believe this is all it takes. I guess i'm a changed man now. Talk to everybody!

[–]Messisfoot 28 points29 points30 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

You would be surprised how being able to draw people to you has amazing effect on your game. I just got back from vacation and since I grew up with my parents working the kind of jobs the resort staff were doing, I always make it a point to know their names and be thankful for their work. By the end of the week, everyone at the hotel was saying hi to me and this had a profound effect on how women looked at me. Soon I was having girls with boyfriends check me out.

Mind you I'm not a social person. But good manners were beaten into me, so I guess that worked in my benefit.

[–]dannyboy1389 20 points21 points22 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The law of social momentum

The more people you talk to, the more people will see you speaking with others, making them in turn want to talk to you.

[–]iceman0011 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just realized this is a real thing. Thanks!

[–]instagigated 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yep. I'm naturally drawn towards people who are enigmatic, talk a lot and generally have a 'feel good, live in the moment' vibe. They're fun dudes to hang out. Not that I can't do the same, I just can't do it 100% of the time like these guys can. A few good days of the week is what I can pull; the rest is my downtime.

[–]FuLLMeTaL604 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I hear you buddy. I'm kind of an introvert but I do come out of my shell every other day or so when I'm in the mood. Sometimes it feels that I don't have control of when I choose to be social but if that's the case, sometimes I have to force it.

[–]instagigated 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep; I force it a lot of the time, too. That's usually only because otherwise I'd be a downer; and that's worse.

[–]VINCE_C_ 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This definitely works. Especially when you enter a new group. You need to talk with everyone every chance you get. I don't mean being needy and trying to force it. Just a genuine smalltalk.

[–]Anaron 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Does anyone see this differently? Great banter, body language, good eye contact but not too much, some kino thrown in, a bit of self disqualification, points out the elephant in the room, isn't afraid to tease her nor himself... This is a perfect example of how unscripted conversation should go with a woman. I've actually become a fan.

Ill admit I was pretty oblivious because I was shy, If a girl smiles at you, smile back, If she asks you a question, ask the same. Im decent looking, I dont know what others think, but im passionate about my hobbies and how I can help people if they need help with what I do.
