One thing I do think about when reading them, though, is how people along this crazy spectrum of beliefs are interpreting what you've assembled. I wonder, which parts of these posts would a militant internet feminist choose to attack? And how would we best respond?

I'm going through a presentation at work on violence against women.

It's definitely not mandatory, I signed up for this, but fuuuuuck.

They quoted a statistic that 1 in 3 women in her lifetime will experience sexual abuse in Canada. Sounded a lot like that fishy study where they included stuff like being touched on the shoulder against her will as sexual assault, so I looked it up.

From a statcan web page, more than 11 million Canadians have been physically or sexually assaulted since the age of 15, which represents 39% of women and 35% of men in Canada. 30% of women were sexually assaulted vs 8% of men, so women are more likely to be sexually assaulted than men (3x more) but men are more likely to be physically assaulted (more than 2x more).

Yes it's a presentation specifically geared towards the violence that women experience, but statistically, MEN EXPERIENCE TWICE AS MUCH VIOLENCE AS WOMEN.

This goes COMPLETELY under the radar.

I also understand that more women are being sexually assaulted than men, but this statistic is absolutely skewed by the fact many men don't even know that they have been sexually assaulted, let alone raped, because men just aren't taught that they can be sexually assaulted or raped, and they are far far far less likely to report it to the police than women.

So yes, violence is a problem, yes we need to step up as a society and address this issue, but the fucking double standards are pissing me off. Here we have a presentation by women about violence against women, with the tear-jerking accounts to support and believe women, but MEN ARE TWICE AS LIKELY TO BE VICTIM OF VIOLENCE AND THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NOBODY TALKING ABOUT IT.

Pisses me off.

So yeah, thank you /u/TheTinMenBlog, for posting this message about the two sides of the coin. It is absolutely true, and unfortunately one side of the coin gets all the support and attention and care, and the other side of the coin gets all the scorn and criticism and pressure.

Question! How do you respond to the standard issue pushback which says is that all of that oppression is still due to patriarchy, and women have no role to play in causing any oppression?

This is a nice presentation, thank you. The only one I might change is comparing not going to University to not getting to live. Even just like "Adam didn't want to fight" or something. The current comparison just don't seem as equal as the others- going to school/being killed.

Also, and it may be different where you live, but just curious- do you have any sources of women of that time getting married with large amount of debt? Where I grew up, in the olden days women had no access to money other than their husband. They lived at home until they got married. Where is the debt from?
