The double-think here is amazing. Yes, sexbots will lower the relationship value of women, but so what? The implication is that by lowering women's relationship value, you lower their value as women altogether. In other words it's saying, "Women's value comes from their ability to please a man. If something else pleases a man, it will rob women of the only value they have." In fighting objectification, they first rely on objectifying themselves.

You can extend this counter-argument to all arguments about objectification of women and so-called "impossible standards". If a woman complains that fashion magazines and porn are making it harder to compete and therefore lowers the value of women, then she has just admitted that she perceives her relationship value and beauty as intertwined with her value as a woman. Women have the same rights that men do, but that doesn't include the "right to feel pretty" just because you can't separate your beauty and sexual utility from your own perception of personal value.

As a feminist, I have to say I don't really have a problem with this. No one should be dependent on other people for sexual gratification, and this is just the obvious next step. Won't this probably reduce rape, anyways? It doesn't even entail abuse like prostitution often does....

And will this actually objectify women, or will it just widen the difference between sexual objects and actual women? It would be pretty hard to see women in the boardroom as reminiscent of sexbots....even less so than pornstars.

EDIT: Actually, this doesn't even mention feminists anywhere. Sigh, MR, sigh.

None of these discussions take into consideration the current existence of "moe culture" in Japan. This is an entire subculture of men (and some women) who have given up on traditional dating and instead, form attachments with "two dimensional" characters (often based upon "Anime Characters"). These people would be the primary ones who would be attracted to this technology. They would quickly get robots made to resemble their favorite characters. A Belldandy love doll would easily command a high price on the market from moe fans.

On another note, women have been using dildos and vibrators for years. There is a multi-million dollar market in sex toys for women. However, there is little available for men in that light. Sexual aids have been the panacea for women (lesbian and straight) seeking to free themselves from the sexual shackles placed on them by society.

However, with these new technologies, straight men are also starting to become more concerned about their sexual needs outside of feminine involvement. It's not just about stolen hand jobs in a dark room while watching porn; it's about men deciding that they do not want to be controlled by their desires.

So you have to ask the "alleged feminists" what the real deal is; is a man with control of his own sexuality really a threat to today's modern feminism?
