My sisters and I (I’m a woman) had one or two neighbor boys (14-17) babysit for us a few times growing up and they were, by far, our favorite babysitters. A lot of female babysitters were bossy/rude and would put my younger sister and I in our rooms early because they wanted to watch shows/movies that we weren’t old enough to watch with our older sister. One of the girl babysitters showed my younger sister the ghost car video on youtube and scared the shit out of her. The boys actually played games with us and ran around outside and we had a lot of fun. It’s sad that people assume boys can’t or won’t babysit, and it’s a good way for kids to make easy money before they can get a job.

Same. When i was a kid, I always wanted to look out for younger kids and share what i knew about life. I wanted to be that big brother. I never had brothers but i always wanted one. I was never asked to watch the neighbors kids or my parents friends kids but my younger sister was. It upset me so much. It made me feel like i was incapable of watching someone just because i was a boy. On top of seeing how fathers were portrayed in the media (useless fathers, deadbeats etc) I was angry.

When I was 15 or so our church was having trouble filling in people to cover the nursery and somehow me and another guy my age got roped into doing it. We had one girl about 4 years old is all. That was 30 years ago and I was surprised they let us do it.

I was single dad and when my daughter started 3rd grade I got a call from someone from the school PTA asking me if I wanted to be the classroom ‘mom’. I chuckled and questioned the reason she was calling a single Dad instead of someone’s Mother. She said none of the moms volunteered… and someone suggested me.

I’m going to play Devil’s advocate here. My parents own a very successful childcare center and one of their policy’s is that they don’t let male teachers change diapers. This is for the teacher’s protection though because even if the kid mentions or says anything that might be misconstrued as perverted touching the teacher is going to ostracized and go through hell even if they didn’t do anything. It’s a shitty situation so what they’ve done is just make a policy that avoids that situation from even occurring. Now, there’s obviously a difference between you being a 10 year old and an adult teacher, but I can at least offer this perspective.

I am a single father of three, two boys and a little girl. I am great with kids, I love teaching them mythology and analog synths.

I've never been asked to babysit for any of my friend's kids, ...not even by my sister who has three kids the same age as mine.

Funny thing is, they all have parent skills with room to grow and I'd watch them for free.

I sorta had this dilemma at one point. But I didn’t want any judgement or bad looks so I avoided it all together. I used to love kids now I’m hearing stories about how the daughters being brats when they get in trouble they actually ended there parents marriage by lying about the dad cheating. Was super fucked up. Recently became friends with a teacher and his 25 year career is threatened because he told a girl her shirt was too revealing. (It was) and so she basically lied about different stuff and the man doesn’t even want to teach anymore. Sad. Jesus please come back. My brother was a victim of a little girl lying about him asking her to “touch his tail” (I’m assuming his dick) and almost put my brother on a sex predator list. Ok, i don't often tell this story. When my daughter was 4 we left her and her 8 year old brother for 1hr with a 15year old boy who was like family to us whilst we and his parents went to set up my daughter's birthday party. They played hide and seek. He sent my son off to hide and didn't go looking for him, instead he tried to rape my 4 year old daughter. He ended up in young offenders for 12 months and is on the SO register for life. So I'm sorry I respect that the male gender is at a disadvantage but there is no way in hell I'd let any young male babysit, I also wouldn't let any young female babysit it had to be a family member or one of our closest friends that we trust wholeheartedly.

I remember visiting a church and this creepy dude was up on stage talking about how he had a gift with children. He was the head of the churches daycare. I kept my exes daughter out of there when I learned it was run by a dude. Couple years later found out he was arrested for like 60 counts of child rape.

Men certainly can care for children. But most of the time, a man that seeks to make this their main profession are not normal. This is not the type of job suited to a man. We are different than women. I would never trust my child with a male babysitter or male daycare worker. For that matter I distrust many women too. Why else would I be here? 😂

I grew up in an evangelical church that didn't let men change baby diapers in the nursery. So weird. The diaper changing station is in front of everyone and no one, male or female is allowed to be alone with kids to begin with. So disgusting to me to even consider Men aren't allowed to change diapers.

...if my memory serves me, I think Dads of a child in the nursery were allowed to change their own child's diaper.
