Many people here argue that individual sexual imperatives have broad social (or even species) implications and are thus “fair game” for criticism beyond “she’s dumb, so forget her.” One common complaint is single mothers that have a tax drain on society. This specific post is less concerning divorced mothers, whose fathers may still be in the picture somehow, than true single moms: often young, poor, and basically just bumbling through life. It seems many don’t even consciously want children; it just happens and she’s either guilted into keeping the baby or unable to get an easy abortion.

So would you support programs that incentivized such people to get sterilized? These programs have a very bad reputation for some bc of the racially focused way former ones were carried out, but what about an equal opportunity program?

I picture a substantial Sephora gift card for a tubal ligation and a Playstation/Xbox for a vasectomy. Yes the upfront costs are somewhat daunting, but the net cost of an unwanted and underparented child over their lifetime would dwarf them over time.

[Edit: I’ll add IUDs as an option but nothing that requires constant upkeep like pills]

So do you support such a hypothetical program? Why or why not?
