My mother's excuse for whacking part of mine off was that she didn't want me to get picked on. I'm a ginger, I was destined to be picked on in school, not chopping off part of my dick wouldn't have made it any worse than it already was.

Complains about any proposed legislation to protect genital integrity as "governmental intrusion."

I'm (mostly) a libertarian, and that's a horrible application of that complaint. The government should still be allowed to intervene in instances to protect someone from non-consensual harm. That harm can be physical (e.g. assault), mental (e.g. harassment), sexual (e.g. rape), or material (e.g. theft).

Physical harm encompasses anything that causes non-trivial pain, injury, or diminishment of health. Therefore, any surgery is technically physical harm, which is why you must consent to surgery. In the case of minors, a parent may, if it is medically necessary, consent on their child's behalf.

However, circumcision is not a medical necessity. Therefore, a parent cannot consent on their child's behalf for the surgery to take place.

Consensual circumcision should be legal, non-consensual circumcision should not.

I am totally against infant circumcision, but these bingo cards are obnoxious when feminists do it and they are obnoxious when you do it. Instead of using this list of common arguments to piss people off, why not use it to write an article debunking each of them? It's far more likely to sway people than preaching to the choir.

From what I've seen in the locker rooms of Canada, circumcised men are rarer than uncircumcised. Additionally, they were the ones made fun of, or at least asked if they were Jewish. Not saying it's nice but it was high school.

I honestly have no strong feelings at all that this was done to me against my will as an infant.

I can see how this might be an issue for some people, but my wife likes what I got so I really don't care on a personal level. And if I had to go through it at all, I'm definitely glad it was as an infant and not when I'd remember it.

I remember painful tooth extractions and I hated that whole process. But every day I just look down at my junk and think......notbad.jpg.

Sorry some people actually have arguments. It has health risks, and is only a minor procedure. When I say minor, I don't mean insignificant I mean that there are no major anesthetics used when doing so, making it less dangerous than getting your tonsils out. It is proven to have benefits, but not everything is 100% gain, so of course you can argue both. Don't belittle other peoples arguments when they're valid, just because you disagree. Isn't that one of the main points of /r/mensrights?

While this is obviously fallacious reasoning as I don't know of even a single case where this has happened, there are cases of deaf parents engineering deaf babies that show the underlying idea that as long as the baby isn't born, it is ok to engineer them. Combine this with sex selective abortions, and it becomes clear that if any scientist ever figures out how to cause circumcision though genetics while in utero, then the fight to ban circumcision will not be able to win in our current political climate.

If we can instead change the mentality that children belong to the parents and instead have them viewed as their own persons, then this fight becomes much easier. But in so many cases circumcision (along with numerous other operations, some reversible some not) is done solely because the parents want it and think they have the right to control their child in this fashion. Any justification done when they are questioned on it is after the fact reasoning trying to find a way to justify what was essentially a selfish choice.
