I didn't comment on this thread to start some sort of flame war. Obviously, i do not expect to change everyone's minds. You can change my words around to make them suit what you believe, but as I said before, women are invested from day one. Fathers do not begin bonding until the baby is born. Isn't not the same thing and there is no way to explain it to you unless you have been through it. I respect that men and father's deserve rights, I swear I really do. But not every man/boy out there is going to face the responsibility that comes with those rights. The same holds true for mothers. To be honest, I think the larger problem in most of the posts I have read in MRM is that it continually perpetuates 'us versus them'. I wonder If this is for real though, and by that I mean the extremists of any religion or group (feminists too) are usually more vocal. My main point with this thread, before it got all out of hand, was simply it is one teenagers word against another in a tabloid story. I wouldn't take either side, let alone start expressing outrage at a young girls actions. I only clicked on this at all because it was on the front page and because I watch the shows.

I think you're missing the point. Namely, women get ample more chance than men to terminate. Aside from the coital control options, they have the morning after pill, RU486, and a clinical abortion. Men have none of those options. And all of that leaves aside that sometimes condoms do fail. My point is that this creates an imbalance that essentially gives a woman final authority. Now, she should have that over her own body, but not over the man's life, as is implicated by current law. The remedy I'm proposing in no way truncates her rights, it just extends equal protection to men.

And really, it is necessary. I mean, if you're be conscripted into two decades of legal slavery without your say, how would you react? I, for one, would entertain just about any notion preferentially, including fleeing the country.

No, i don't think a teenager should be sterilized, and my comment was to one person. If you are a teenager having sex you should use a condom and/or birth control. Spermicide is available right next to condoms, grab some of that while you're there. I mentioned the morning after pill because you can take your cutie to the local pharmacy and get it right there, right away. Buy her a water and watch her take it. I am simply saying that men have options, and again, you have to understand assumed risk in everything you do. I would not use the term slavery for women or men. I would not compare being a parent (at any age) to the buying and selling of human beings as property with no rights whatsoever. I am pro-choice, and I am also a mom. I am not going to respond further, but I appreciate the debate. Although I don't agree with a lot of it you certainly have the right to say what you believe.

Sigh. You can't watch a woman take the MAP if she doesn't want to take it. You don't have to be "crazy" (as you put it) to decide on the spot you'd rather have a baby than the other options. Out of curiosity, what risk do you see the woman assuming by having sex? Given that she can unilaterally make the decision, I'd argue there's no risk for a woman. Do you think it's fair for one side to assume all of the risk?

Yes there are methods to make accidental pregnancy less likely (by the way your analogy is pretty bad. nobody would leave their houses if the risk of a traffic accident was 3%. we'd have tens of thousands of road fatalities daily). Does that mean we should do nothing to address the issue of giving some input to the male in the minority case?

And by the way, couldn't any of these "but contraception is available!!" arguments apply to a woman seeking abortion too? So what if a young stupid couple does it without protection? Your response to the male who wants input in the decision is that, "well, you could have wrapped it, son"? What is your response if the woman in such a case wants to abort?

To address your other comment, I don't see this as a flamewar, but a useful discussion. Sorry if I came across otherwise.
