Wait wait wait. Her parents died in a car crash, she had to leave the country (and he didn’t go with her) and he knew she wanted him to be more present, so he broke up with her? And now he expects us to feel sorry for him?

For someone who claims she was his soulmate and “dream girl,” he sure let her go easily. Hell, I’ve had dream sweaters that I was more loyal to and worked harder to get and keep.

My take is he only romanticized their relationship like this in retrospect, and at the time thought he could do better/get more sex if they broke up. Just like he’s now doing to his current (hopefully soon-to-be-ex! Please let her find this) wife.

So he acknowledges all she has done for him and improved his life. He proposed knowing he didn't love her the most, and wasted her life.

He broke up with the love of his life “out of convenience” too once she had to process grief and loss.

Also a military guy? Willing to bet he met and proposed to the wife less than a year after the breakup.
