From the article:

Food distribution since the quake on 12 January has often been marked by poor co-ordination, gaps in coverage and desperate, unruly lines of needy people in which young men at times have shoved aside the women and the weak and taken their food.

Because they were starving to death and going days without food; wouldn't a better system have been to give everybody food? How were those men supposed to eat?

The World Food Programme said it would work to ensure men in need are not excluded.

This ended up never happening, there was never any plan and men were left to eat grass to try and survive.

Common thing in charaties, be aware of this when you donate, and donate to MRA charaties instead, which are now good and popping up

Yup. Starve them until they are desperate, then when they act on that desperation, use that to justify starving them more.

Can I have a source for that?

[–]Vista_Seagrape[S] 27 points28 points29 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I have to do a lot of digging for that, but I remember back in 2011 I looked into this story, I found an article where a man was quoted saying they were reduced to eating grass. Some weeks later- this is 10 years ago so I honestly don't remember exactly where or when- I stumbled upon a website showing a list of the deceased, and his name was on that list. It was first middle and last name, so IMO very likely him.

Please, if you can find that, that would be very helpful!

If this truly did happen, this is truly sickening.

I posted about this last year two, the actual UN hired directors on the ground of these disaster zones said it was stupid and didnt work. I'll dig around a little. Its really annoying, why can't I search by keywords posts a known user made? Or am I missing something, is there a way to do it? (on desktop)

Also circular reasoning..... deny men food, they go starving, use US armed guards at gun point to stop men..... then say starving, just had a natrual disaster, homeless men got rowdy, and justify rowdiness to say hey women only is needed.

Its also a common policy in charaties to help only gitrls:

https://www.gibm.us/news/no-money-for-boys-and-men-the-truth-about-giving

a lot of charaties have said this that e.g. in India, girls get free education, housing etc, so if you see a homeless person on street and hes male, he is the truly fucked on.... charaties wanted to offer help but they risk losing funding then from feminsit lobbies.

There is also economic reason for this, the rationale is helping women, helps economy and global development more than helping men (I think this probably is true as well, although I have NOT looked IN DEPTH into this - e.g. mother has less kids, teaches children etc)

THe global development world, was shocked to find out that more boys in the world are malnourished, stunted growth etc:

https://www.ennonline.net/mediahub/blog/sexdifferencesinundernutrition

However, why? Why where they shocked when they finally decided to collect the data? We all know girls are preferred by every single form of charity or UN, WHO etc

[–]IkeOverMarth 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I did some work in a developing country, and the village boys were pretty much forced to go work as migrant construction or agricultural laborers, while girls had totally free high school and college in a nearby city.

[–]mhandanna 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Which is why more boys are out of school world wide than girls (little known fact) - the reporting is a major contributor e.g. it will say 2 million girls are out of school in x country.... well how many boys? Oh 2.4 million... ahh

And more boys worldwide are malnourished etc than girls

What kind of source could one cite to prove that something didn't happen?

[–]lightning_palmleft-wing male advocate 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

"Men were left to eat grass to try and survive" requires proof. I'm being critical because if I have a conversation with someone of opposing beliefs, I want to be able to back it up with hard evidence and facts.

Also, because I don't want to believe it is true. I've seen too many discouraging news like this lately, and it's weighing on me.

[–]Carkudo 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"Men were left to eat grass to try and survive" requires proof.

Why? If food relief efforts were necessary, that implies food shortages. If food relief is denied a certain group of people during food shortages, it stands to reason that at least some members of that group would face starvation. Sure, proof would be welcome, but why would it be required? What exactly is made impossible and/or unacceptable by a lack of proof?

[–]mhandanna 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Also, because I don't want to believe it is true. I've seen too many discouraging news like this lately, and it's weighing on me."

MRA is not just MRA - for example the number of deaths due to natural disasters has absolutely plummeted compared to hundred years ago (something the environmentalists extremists conveniently DONT tell you), RTAs are down, accidents, drownings, posioning, falls, work place deaths etc.... everything is way way way way way down even compared to 30 years ago.... only very few things are worse e.g. opiod deaths and suicides.

MRA is thriving, and in general the progress of the world is astonishing. This is not an opinion, the data is overwhelming. Look up rational optism.

Here is a great video

https://youtu.be/kjqEMqOyUr8

Its an interview of Matt Ridley, by Jordan Peterson, I dont know if you like JP, but ignore that as the focus is on Matt Ridley.

The stats are just overwhelming, 200,000 people every single day, 365 leaving poverty, joining the electrcity grid, internet etc. Thats dozens in the time it will take you to read this. Even most of the enviriomental stuff is nonsense - yes its a problem, we are making remarkable progress though and will sort it.

People with vested interests have

We need rational optism like this - people who look at the world as it is - and say, look how much progress we have made, lets not fuck it up and continue this extraordinary progress

Not people with vested interests and woke warriors, often feinancial interests in telling people the world is doom and gloom when its not

[–]Carkudo 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because they were starving to death and going days without food; wouldn't a better system have been to give everybody food? How were those men supposed to eat?

It seems to be little more than a poorly thought out excuse to deny aid to men, i.e. someone in charge believed that help should only be given to women and felt the need to justify that - and that's what they came up with.

World Food Programme measure designed to ensure vital supplies get through to everyone

Didn't it literally in the title of the article say that supplies are not getting through to everyone?

[–]SweatyAdvance 34 points35 points36 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Everyone" means women and children, so...mission accomplished?

[–]lightning_palmleft-wing male advocate 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

"unruly lines of needy people in which young men at times have shoved aside the women and the weak and taken their food"

So apparently, young men have been taking food from women and "the weak", so setting up food lines for women was meant to counteract that. There is no contradiction there.

I'm more worried that the food lines were explicitly for women, as women were not the only ones who were shoved away.

[–]skellious 14 points15 points16 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There is no contradiction there.

There is. Men are taking food from women. So you only let women collect food. Now men HAVE to take food from women or face starvation

[–]lightning_palmleft-wing male advocate 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, nevermind, I'm dumb. If you phrase it like that, I see it. This is just too frustrating.

I just wonder if some of the things I read here really are as outrageous as they sound. And if I'm just seeing the world through a certain lense. Talk about echo chamber. But I don't see any way to play this down. And it's not like this is the only example like that.

[–]skellious 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

its okay. its not a simple problem to solve. they've just solved it in the worst possible way. they've basically built in stealing into the system.

[–]Carkudo 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What would that accomplish exactly? It would not prevent the "unruly" men from taking those things from women by using violence. What it did accomplish was condemn to death men who would not or could not feed themselves through violence and who didn't have a woman to acquire food for them. If I were there, I would have been one of those men.

Can you explain to me why in a disaster like that I should die?

[–]lightning_palmleft-wing male advocate 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Right, I was just pointing out that there is no contradiction between the title and article.

[–]skellious 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Imagine your wife, daughter, mother or sister just died and now you can't eat because you have no woman to give your tokens to.

This is not the way.

By all means, set up a seperate line if you REALLY think it's necessary, but don't stop men on their own from collecting food.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I feel sorry for men who think they will be treated better because of their political stances or skin colour or orientation.

[–]excess_inquisitivity 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So do I.

Being a man is enough.

[–]TheNerdWonder 17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Wouldn't be the first time they left men to die. Never forget that they left men to die at Srebrenica.

[–]Tank-o-grad 21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yup, the soldiers of the Dutch battalion who were stationed there as the peacekeeping force at the time were woefully under armed and their requests for reinforcements and even basic close air support were denied by UN higher echelons.

Checking this led me to another "gem" of misandry from the media in this article: https://web.archive.org/web/20210614064610/https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/srebrenica-20-years-after-genocide-dutch-peacekeepers-still-haunted-memories-massacre-10378913.html

Mr Zomer is quick to acknowledge that the main victims of what is believed to be the worst massacre on European soil since the Second World War are the mothers, wives and daughters of Srebrenica, who lost their men and boys in July 1995.

I just, I mean, c'mon man...

[–]PricklyGoober 16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean if you don’t consider the male gender human then of course the “main” victims are always gonna be females. Mr Zomer must not think too highly of himself then, sadly.

WoMeNZ MoST AfFected

Im glad people are recognising this and calling it out. You will see it on comments on articles, social media posts about articles etc that do this.... MRA is growing

[–]Better_Repeat 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Interesting use of the word 'acknowledge', which implies a tacit agreement from the author; as if it should be taken for granted.

Imagine making a similar statement about female victims. In fact, haven't campaigns against 'domestic violence' been chastised before for referring to victims as mothers, sisters, daughters, etc.? With push back being about how a woman's 'relation to a man' shouldn't be a factor.

[–]GltyUntlPrvnInncnt 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's amazing how many men's issues are due to male disposability and gynocentrism.

[–]Blauwpetjevalued LWMA contributor 21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Isn't this symbolic of men's plight in general? Women are protected and provided for all the time and men have to save themselves no matter what. Then when they turn more aggressive and criminal, it's: 'You see? Toxic masculinity, patriarchal violence, men are beasts!'

[–]problem_redditorright-wing guest 16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. And then feminists and wokesters use that as justification to dehumanise and disadvantage men even more under the guise of trying to "correct for" men's bad behaviour (and they always have to extrapolate from the behaviour of a minority of men, and ignore female bad behaviour, too).

It just turns into this awful, self-reinforcing cycle where the less you give men any options, the more they'll resort to aggressive behaviour, and that aggressive behaviour is used as justification to restrict them more and strip them of protections and rights afforded to women.

[–]jpla86 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Anonymous_wastaken 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Equality.

[–]matrixislife 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

While the idea of food supplies for one sex only is bad enough, no one has mentioned so far that UN agencies have been marred by "sex for aid" scandals. Aiming for women/children only food lines seems to be a way to make that much more efficient.

There's more than one reason for discrimination to be a disgusting practise.

[–]LolwhatYesme 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women and children first!

Wait, scratch that. Fuck men.
