I'm just done reaching across the aisle. I'm so tired of going out of my way to understand women's perspectives to have them not spend a minute considering a male one

Why is the burden of knowing "good" from "bad" feminism placed solely on men?

This issue hit particularly close to home as I've had a girlfriend who for the life of me would not understand that I found her attractive even though she was overweight by 50lbs.

Furthermore, it goes to further prove that for men, body types are usually just a literal preference and nothing more. Few men in my personal life have been adamant about saying or marrying women of a particular body type. I don't think I've ever encountered the trope of a guy seriously judging women by attractiveness despite not considering his own - any case that involves the opposite is usually a guy offering up pure hypotheticals.

I, for one, am tired of the notion that guys are super shallow about body types when every man I've met seems to not have a hard line to which they draw that trait

Hetero men have never endorsed the anorexic look of the fashion industry yet this group alone receives the wrath of feminists for "unrealistic body standards"

I only date healthy weight women. Overweightness is a major physical turnoff for me, as well as a sign of sn incompatible lifestyle.

But there is a bigggg diversity of bodies within the framework of "healthy weight" and none of them look like the "anorexic '''ideal''' ".

People who call men shallow for having preferences, assume "preferences" equals "deal-breakers". Sure a guy might find red hair to have a certain special appeal to it. But this doesn't mean he thinks other hair colours are ugly. For women it's considered to be completely normal if they "can't" date short guys.

I told a girl I liked darker skinned girls once and she called me a racist fetishizing asshole. Then she blocked me.

I only ever dated pale white girls (not by choice, it just happened).

It is called projection.

[–]lorarc 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Well, being short ain't a deal breaker for girls either. It may be a problem with big dating pool as there is always someone more preferable but in general there are very few girls who refuse to date short guys.

[–]Robble93 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I haven't had a girl acting difficult about it in real life to my face. Only a girl who was way taller than me might've found it too awkward. But on Tinder it's very common for women to have height requirements listed in their bio.

With the exception of online dating

[–]lorarc 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Like I said, big dating pool. When girls feel they can choose from dozen of guys they prefer they won't give someone else a chance.

[–]GaborFrame 26 points27 points28 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So that's... toxic femininity then?

[–]Alataire 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You know the deal of how their lingo works. It's internalized misogyny, which is because of the patriarchy.

[–]kanray86 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

which is then us men's fault. everything is always our fault, don't forget!

[–]helloiseeyou2020 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I like how it's men's fault that women hold standards for themselves that men dont even want. Not even sexist men

[–]Skirt_Douglas 16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It’s pretty hilarious that feminists claim straight men are determining the beauty standards of the fashion industry, when the people who are actually hiring these models are probably either not men, or not straight. The fashion industry as a whole is only about 12% male.

[–]lorarc 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

However there are a lot of men at the very top. That said, fashion industry is more about art than actual desireable looks.

[–]Throwawayingaccount 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm surprised by this, considering how prevelant the "Thicc" meme is. I would have thought said meme would make women think less of being thin.

[–]GalileosTele 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In other news, water is wet.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I often see this used by women as a coping mechanism. Just say something along the lines of "the guy left me because he wanted someone skinny" when the reality is that guys are much more open minded about body types, and guys actually care about personality a great deal.

This type of thinking allows women to remove themselves from personal responsibility and instead accuse the guy of being "shallow".

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points26 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

men have preferences, women have requirements

[–]kanray86 10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

cmon now, lets's not get into generalizations here. this isn't r/feminism

[–]helloiseeyou2020 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Cosign!

[–]webernicke 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not just thin body types. It's hair length/texture, nails, social status, career, skin color/tone, dress size, eye color etc. I've had women shocked that I was attracted to them despite this or that tiny "flaw" which I hadn't even noticed as a problem. Any cursory glance at porn reveals that, while individual preferences and broad trends do exist, almost any combination of traits is acceptable and attractive to some group of men even to the extreme.

It's one of the red flags about the feminist narratives that depicts society as heavily misogynistic. In my experience seems like men absolutely adore the broadest proportion of women.

[–]C0dey 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's pretty accurate for me, I hate pigs of both genders.

[–]Thebannedwereright 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I used to pay a lot of attention to what I was attracted to when I was a feminist who believed in not objectifying people.

But ever since I learned that feminists don't care about the instrumentalisation and objectification of men... I just don't care anymore about imposing traditional beauty standards.

Who cares? Let them deal with their own mental problems.
