Thanks for sharing this. It does require an amendment, though -- young men didn't account for 61% of all global deaths, but rather 61% of all deaths between the ages of 10 to 24: https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2021/nov/01/nearly-two-thirds-of-those-who-died-young-in-2019-were-male-research-finds

This doesn't detract from the fact there is a discrepancy, though, and essentially confirms that young men have to run a gauntlet of violence and trauma before making it to a statistically "safer" age group; i.e. when they find some security or have established themselves in some way.

I wish the articles gave more detail, as I would be willing to bet a tremendous number of these deaths are the result of foreign policy (which labels all "fighting age" men as combatants), internal conflict, and preferential treatment in disaster situations (e.g. during natural disaster or after the destruction of infrastructure like in Yemen).

Males are more likely to die in war, from injuries, from workplace fatalities, from coronavirus, from cancer, and even from heart attacks in many countries. We must do more to reduce mortality rates in men and boys

But, then, I can't help think that we'll see the usual "But women!" or the timeless "PATRIARCHY!" rethoric to shut it down.

I sometimes wondered why there were slightly more women on the planet when I was younger, and anybody I asked told me the birth rate was about 50/50. The day I learned that there are issues disproportionately, or almost exclusively affecting men answered that question.

Edit: A concise and informative correction has been made in a reply to me, concerning a misinformed statistic on my part. It is my homecountry in which I noticed an imbalance, not the world as a whole, which has a ratio of about 101 males for every 100 females.
