I don't think the statement is false by itself. It's truth that conservative want to impose sex roles.

The problem is not ending it with "women should defend the country equally and be drafted equally" or "no one should be forced into the military as it is now a profesionalized one".

Problem is being a feminist and being in the same side as conseevatives with sex roles and not seing a problem with that.

"Women should not be drafted because..."

If you think that the argument is diferent just because your point sound more progresive but the conclusion is a sex role division given by conservatives you have work to do.

The problem is not working also to free men from that problem and thinking: women not affected --> equality achieved

That comment does have some valid points to it. But just because that is so, that does not in any way undermine the idea of male disposability. They are two separate, but related issues. You can't really have one without the other. Sexism in one area usually creates unintentional sexism in the other.

The whole logic of male disposability is that women are a hyper-valuable resource, and therefore men need to sacrifice and die for them. On the male side, this is negative sexism. On the female side, it is positive sexism.

I understand the urge to denounce the former, but that doesn't mean we have to ignore the latter. Recognizing it in no way contradicts being angry at male disposability.

I admit, it may seem trite to compare the two one one gender is the one dying and one isn't, but if that's your criticism, say that.

There was an article posted on mens lib with over 500 comments. The top comment with over a thousands upvotes is

I guess its fun to demonize menslib as feminists that think men are disposable and say they are derailing the conversation because of a comment with 15 upvotes.

But that's obviously not a very good summary of the opinions over at mens lib. Why fan flames to a pathetic mens rights war when we all want the same thing. Not to be potentially called to fight a war we don't want.

Hey, original commenter here.

I never denied men disposability. It's clear that it exists, and its a problem. Its a recurring topic on many man-advocate subreddits and its so obviously present in the draftee debate that I just didn't feel like repeating the obvious same stuff again. That was talked all day long in the original post about the topic, with 1000 upvotes and 500 comments. This second post, some 3 days later, brings some light about the arguments and political strategy of the right wings dipshits that shut this law down. It has only 42 upvotes, and 50 comments. That's because the subreddit already had that discussion earlier. It has run its course, and now we are kinda repeating the same talking points again.

But maybe you need to hear it again, even that you and I, and every male advocate knows its true:

Men draft is a disposability issue. Its also gender discrimination.

I got kinda sad when the law didn't pass. I don't even live in USA (as anyone can infer about my terrible english), but this is important and its something we as a society need to oppose.

But two problems can exist at the same time. Have you read the original link? Here it is. Its in a right-wing web, citing some disgusting right wing politician.

I was disgusted by the language used by them, and that moved me to comment on this already discussed topic. I was my honest reaction, so I talked about it. Sorry that I didn't preface it with an analysis of male disposability, and that I didn't clearly explicited my obvious opposition to this instance of gender discrimination. I just sticked to the topic of my revulsion. And then you come in:

You just lurked to the third comment in a low importance, repeated post, and find a gut reaction comment writed in 5 minutes. And you didnt like it, because it was not explicit enough, and not in topic enough for you. So you go and make a post about a 15 upvote comment on a 50 upvoted post? Thats not my problem, nor a problem with MensLib, thats a you problem.

At the end, Im happy to follow Menslib, because we don't attack other male advocate subs for not being redundant and explicit in every single comment. Also, don't send agresive DMs, its morally wrong.

I'm in this weird spot because I literally don't believe in conscription at all, but also believe that getting that training is really good for people. Like when I lived in China I'm pretty sure everyone did some military training and fitness stuff. I feel like a little military education to give people a taste of what they could do it positive, but that no one should be forced into war. I'm sure you can manifest plenty of willing bodies. Even I nearly joined our local reserves (unfortunately living in China for 3 years disqualifies you for 5) there's a lot you can do with the army even languages and such. It really doesn't need to be forced the perks are great
