We have Movember (November) for prostate awareness. And November 19th is international men's day. Both are actively crusaded against, but they exist. What they need is awareness, it's shocking how many men don't even know we even have a day.

Unrelated: There was a shower thought recently about how to treat men.

And unsurprisingly and unfortunately most of the comments are turning it into how to treat women; or making it gender neutral and how treat people.

I even had someone telling me that men are put on a pedestal and women are treated slaves. Like... statistics won't back you up. It's literally vice versa.

I despise both international days and mother's/fathers day because of the obvious discrepancies between the roles on average. Just have parents' day and removal international days and be done with at as a whole.

You have many more useful holidays in which don't specifically isolate a gender to celebrate it. Christmas and thanksgiving are about being happy with the people you love even if that's yourself. Easter and Halloween are both spiritual and good kids' holidays for them to let out. What does having a specific day celebrating men or women do? Why not couple the role of mother and father into one day so no one feels isolated or underappreciated. Also, why not practice White Day in respect to Valentine's day?

As we all know we have two female oriented celebrations coming up soon , one is February 14th which is Valentine's Day and the other March 8th which is International Women's Day , that's apart from Mother's Day , Christmas , New Year's , where women get all the attention and men are just in the sideshow used as wallets. Agree with some of this. Valentines day depends on who you're with, though I agree a lot of marketing is aimed at women; but purely anecdotally, I've seen way more men not care about romantic celebrations than women. If you're with a good partner, you'll want to make them feel special, and they'll want to make you feel special, and that's what matters. International women's day is definitely much more widely celebrated and accepted compared to international men's day, which is something that does really annoy me. I've always found Father's day, Christmas, and New Years to be fine though.

And the funny thing is , even if we get anything as a gift , its usually the stereotypical cheap socks , cheap underwear , some cheap showering kit , isn't it biased??? Like women get cars , expensive jewelry , trips overseas , expensive restaurants , all year round , and all men get as a thank you is these types of things...

Haha, I did get socks and showering stuff from my mum this Christmas, but it wasn't cheap stuff for sure, and I quite like it honestly. Again, it's always been very fair in my family. It might not always be totally fair in one year, but for instance, I got my dad a PS4 Pro this year, and my Mum just got some smellies mainly. I've never seen anyone get bought a car, unless it's some extremely cheap, used piece of rubbish, as a first car. Nor have I seen anyone be bought a holiday, etc. You have to be careful not to cherry pick some of these experiences, especially based on what you see online or in the media. The people getting those kinds of things are in a very small minority, and some of them might just be posing / faking it to look rich frankly.

I do wholeheartedly agree that things like men's health aren't taken as seriously as women's (breast cancer gets significantly more attention than prostate cancer, as you say). International men's day seems to be a polarizing one even among men; the amount of times I've seen other men say "we don't even need a day" or echo "every day is international men's day" - that's just nonsense, but I don't need to preach to the choir here.

TL;DR: Agree mostly, but be careful about focusing on unrealistic depictions of some of this stuff that sway one way.

As men, we aren't "obligated" to acknowledge anything but the holidays with our loved ones & family. I just ignore what other people want to celebrate. That's for them, fine... I don't have to join their party. Let them celebrate themselves if it makes them feel better. I don't care or pay attention on my part as long as i'm not forced to participate.

I feel this is a Hollywood Trope. I've never known people rich enough to be giving cars or holidays away on Valentines. It's usually a box of chocolates, flowers or something sexy - but cheap.

I think you are looking at certain types of women... gold-diggers we call 'em. I've dated enough women whilst dirt-poor to know they all don't think and want the same things.

Sure there is a hangover from men being the breadwinners. Women historically might have relied on having men buy them things. It doesn't have to continue now. Really, the wealthy should be gifting to the poor regardless of gender, if they can afford to.

Oh, I'm really sorry for your pain. Did you get at least one present for Christmas from someone? Did you manage to treat yourself with even a small thing? St Valentine's day is actually supposed to be couple's day, because they celebrate romance. Romance is not made by just one woman. There might be a popular Women's day on 8th march, but here's what information I will tell. 19th November - International men's day 9th and 16th of March are also Men's day, celebrated in some countries. I heard they celebrate it in Poland on some of these dates, and I will always regard them. Those holidays deserve more attention. Besides, good people deserve a greeting every day.

Men shoulder some blame for that. Simps are doing as much damage as feminists. But I can't put all the blame on them. We are conditioned from birth to think like that. in regards to prostate awareness, the month of November is also recognized as Movember to health spread awareness of both men's mental and physical health. there is also an international Men's day in November. the issue really is most people don't participate (including men) to make these things more well known.

The issue I have with your 3rd paragraph is that I don't believe in pride just for being a man. not saying what you saying is wrong, but I was not the builder, the farmer, etc. I believe this cause I also don't take responsibility for white people owning slaves, or men in the past or present committing murder or rape. Just like women shouldn't automatically be proud of just being women. Pride should be reserved for something you personally achieve, same as respect, we should earn it individually, that way we can use the same argument if we are disrespected for men of the past's actions.

Well, valentines day, mothers day are vastly commercialised, and have been for decades by hallmark

F are just as susceptible to advertising as m, and we have a ton more aimed at us / about us.

I ( f) advertise International Men's Day, and work for human rights ( against forced genital cutting, regardless of gender, age or geographical location, regardless of the time of year). 1) women have been specifically targeted by advertising for decades re ( sometimes expensive) flowers jewellery, perfume, chocolates, cars, holidays etc as gifts.

These items are prepackaged in almost all shops as gift ideas for f.

For men, the only prepackaged gifts are things for m are expensive cologne, sock sets, novelty gits, sports related stuff, whiskey etc. The only thing in commercials that are aimed at m gifts are cologne, booze and power tools.

Sadly, many m are obtuse or even silent on what they want as gifts, so f have to guess, or buy the dreaded socks!

I enjoy picking out just the right gifts, but with oh, Sadly its impossible. He doesn't use it, wear it, read it etc. Because he doesn't want to use it up etc. We don't give each other gifts anymore, ( am fine with this, although I do insist on buying v nice chocolates for us to share at Xmas) but we do treat each other to cinema etc all year round. .

You could aim a campaign at business, demanding better options for men, but commercially, women buy more ( shop more) than men. It's capitalism, I'm afraid gents.

Y’all have Father’s Day. The reason there is so many womens days and celebration for womens health is because women are often cast aside. Breast cancer can be hard to diagnose and a lot of doctors tell women to stop faking or they’re fine simply because they’re women. Now don’t get me wrong I think there should be more recognition for other health issues obviously. But remember that for females it’s incredibly hard to get decent health care anywhere.

Valentine's day is about couples/romance. Yes, there's often a focus on women, with men doing the planning. Personally in my relationship, we don't even bother with valentines day as it's just a capitalism day, and i've noticed many people around me doing the same thing.

Thankfully mothers day has an male option, with is fathers day. Admittedly, fathers day is much less celebrated than mothers day, but there are valid historical reasons for those. I'd love to see a shift in the coming years to make both of them equal, but that shift starts by ensuring that you are focused on fathers day, and ensuring that those around you do the same.

Yes, we do. November is an ovearll "mans month" for dealing with mental health, mens rights, and certain things like prostate cancer. September is also the official month for prostate cancer, it's not as marketed, because not enough people market it frankly.
