Not that I am interested in long distance relationships, but I sometimes heard of people from different countries who fall in love after meeting on OLD, during a trip, on exchange, or during a working holiday. The idea of two people from different countries falling in love like that adds to the "romantic" aspect of the stories. However, do long distance relationships like these almost never work out? It is almost never worth it to be in a relationship like this? I think it's hard to vet a guy if you the two of you don't even live in the same country and closing the distance will be very hard. I have no idea if the women I've heard of who got married like that ended up with a HVM. I guess some people may also be biased to portray such relationships as romantic when they are not.

I've also heard of couples who met as they were in a social circle but then the relationships became long distance as one of them had to move abroad. IMO these long distance relationships are more likely to work out as they were formed on a non-LDR basis. There is still a risk of failure though as the distance will make communication difficult and closing the distance may not be possible for some people.
