If it were 75 men and 6 women, I'm sure some headlines would say "81 people executed in 24 hours in Saudi Arabia, including 6 women." All that said, I'd actually prefer they say "people" instead of "men" as long as they extend that same standard to women, so criticism should only be levied toward the sources that have a history of only mentioning the victim's gender when they are female (and the opposite where it applies).

I'm completely fine with children getting special treatment though because they're children, but neither men and boys nor women and girls deserve special treatment over the other sex.

I think it should always be people not men nor women, gender should not matter whatsoever in this case and in many cases, the children thing makes sense to call out specifically, I don’t really care if they say people or men, it doesn’t change anything for me and it shouldn’t ever really make a big difference, the only time race or gender should ever be referenced is when you are describing someone to someone if they need to find them otherwise it should not even matter as in this case

I see this done all the time. A bunch of women do something wrong = people. A bunch of people do something wrong with the majority being men = men. It feels like trying to remove women from the blame and blaming men as much as we can even if they aren’t the sole group to blame. And of course this happens with victims too, as you mentioned.

Depends on what happened to be honest. If it had the words "woman", "execute", and "Saudi Arabia" in the headline, due to this day and age, many feminists jump in to cover anything. Then they find out the women executed were something like rapists, murderers, or something highly immoral.

This hasn't to do with what you're stating. You've actually just put a false narrative that news headlines are saying "people" over "menn" due to some internal hatred. There probably is, but in this action, it's not something they are trying to prove.

In all matters, saying "81 people executed" is what I would suggest being more neutral, than saying "men" or "women". They are at least shown as people, rather than some biased headline. It does depend on the article. It's like those rare articles saying "women and children" instead of "children and civilians".

I don't see an issue with the headline you mentioned if they have not been hypocritical or shown a double standard, e.g. if they said "people" instead of "men", but used "women" instead of "people". That shows a double standard.

From the journalist's perspective, they should write whatever garners most sympathy for the victims of such brutality. So, being the case that less people will sympathize with the victims if they are described as male, the journalist should refrain from mentioning men among the victims if at all possible without lying. The opposite is true for if the victims were women or children.

I don't agree with any of the above, but I can imagine someone cynically having this perspective. Still a terrible perspective, but moreso a pragmatic one than a directly sexist one, especially if you're convinced that we are just evolved to show more sympathy towards women and children (which I think may be true). Same explanation for why the sex of male perps is always mentioned...

It's wrong to write articles like it's activism, though, especially when pretending to be merely reporting facts. And we should work to fight against the unfair impulses of our brains, evolved or not, instead of hijacking them for monetary gain. That will not incentivize taming those impulses to make way for the better angels of our nature.

Well, it's Saudi, so I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mention it if they were women, either. In fact, the news wouldn't even leave Saudi at all.

I know I will be pummeled but wouldn’t we still complain even if it focus on men or female and using the word people could have different meaning but yes I do agree that they would always make a point specifically about the children as well I am thinking that it’s for reasons for not upsetting one side of each gender but as it seems it has but if the title was different saying that women or men have been executed both sides would complain saying that their gender are also suffering as well. I am not trying to discredit the OP or make him look dumb I am just putting my input here
