A long time ago now, ,when I was in high school, I had a pickme friend that told me she used to take our classmates FB photos (teen girls) and show them to strangers online. She confided in me that she used to send photos of girls she hated, pretending to be them, and loved when people on omegle/chat sites would tell her they were ugly.

She was one of the founding reasons I didn't carry on with social media as we grew up. I was always afraid of what vindictive LV/NV women would do. Pick-me-ism is pathological, and we're all recovering. We're allowed/justified to have boundaries with how we engage with the online world and how much/little we choose to share.

Thank goodness for personal growth and healing, because we don't need to compete for low value attention and throw one another under the bus in any capacity. One woman's beauty existing doesn't extinguish or diminish yours.

I have an ex friend who would do this with dating app and fet life photos of other women. She and her poly guy (gag) started this garbage together but then she would do it alone out of boredom. To her it was hilarious! She’s the kind of woman who hears her friend was cheated on and starts flirting with the cheater husband. I caught her in so many manipulations and outright lies. We deal with enough why do women have to treat each other like crap?

If you ‘deactivate’ your profile but the app’s algorithm suggests you have a higher than usual conversion rate, ie, men switch to the paid version after seeing your profile? The app will reactivate your profile without telling you, and use it to boost paid subscribers, and/or use your photos on a fake profile. It will also show it to women looking for women. It’s so creepy.

I'm so sorry that happened to you and so relieved it got taken down. No expectation of privacy is one of the main reasons I'm off dating apps these days. Just last week, I went on TikTok and one guy had made a zillion videos of him swiping left and right on women who had clearly not consented to this. I b*tched him out in the comments and reported it, but there is very little we can do to keep our photos from getting into the wrong hands. So pathetic that these people have nothing else better to do with their lives.

Everyone and their grandma's put pictures of themselves online and their whole fam. But, the reality is you have no control where your images end up! And, it is one thing if you are famous but it's different if your not.

I don't use dating apps. But, I use a language exchange app but i don't put a clear photo of my face cause you just never know if you speak with a weirdo or something

I'm sorry you had that experience with that wacko of a women. It sucks cause for people who really like dating apps and are really looking for a relationship they have to worry about putting up a real photo and wondering were it will end up( I dont believe in dating apps! But there are people out there who are looking for real relationships on these apps and not just hookups)

My POF profile got hacked by some Russian woman, and I abandoned it. Then I had a scrote from chat tell me that he set my profile pic as his wallpaper -- how next-level creepy is that. (By the way, the profile pic of me on chat is about 3/4 of my face, not all that well lit, with a now-deceased cat who was photo-bombing.)

Lots of dating sites apparently have in the fine print the clause that they can use images of people however they choose. Just another reason not to be on OLD at all.

That is crazy! Totally crazy. The more I think about it, the more I regret ever being a woman on the internet with photos of me online. I know about people catfishing using my pics--one even tried to match with my sister, and another sent sexually suggestive messages to try to hurt my career, and a third even was a man trying to get dick picks from other men--and it just never seems worth it because you'll be harassed no matter what.

I was thinking about this sort of thing the other day - I'm 21, so social media and especially sharing insta photos is just something I started doing as a teen and never thought much of, but theres so many absolute freaks out there I've been on a massive purge to get rid of anyone I don't know on my followers and getting rid of any photos I'm not fully.comfortable with anyone seeing.

I also recently found out that a guy I thought was a friend who ended up sexually assaulting me used to talk about me to his girlfriend at the time (we're friends now and she told me all this), talking about how hot and fuckable I was and showing her my pictures. To make matters worse I had to be put to bed at a house party once as I drank too much without eating, and this same guy followed the friend putting me to bed and tried to stay in my room to 'sleep on my sofa'. Thank fuck my friend's not stupid and kicked him out.
