For women: they tend to use old photos or use camera angles to thin their faces out or hide fat or whatever. They still 'look like' their pictures, sorta.

Men don't really care / bad at pictures so they probably look better irl a lot of times.

So both male and female, I'd say 50%+ of the people don't look exactly like their pictures.

I'm a man and I wanna say all of them. Even the women I met IRL before matching I could tell were using photos in absolute ideal lighting conditions with a makeup routine that doesn't represent the norm, and were ususally a bit less heavy on top of finding an ideal angle.

I don't have a problem with putting your best foot forward but I've noticed a lot of these women seem to be on apps for a while and wind up going on a whole lot of first dates thst go nowhere if you get them talking or know their friends. I think when the difference can be that stark it can put a lot of men off and possibly cause them to overestimate themselves, which everyone does but at the same time I get the impression some people base their self image on pictures like this and theres no way thats healthy.

I'd say about 10% of women use photos from 10 years ago that look nothing like them.

Another 20% bait with older photos and only show newer photos at the end.

60% look just like I expected.

And 10% look much better than their photos.

I've been told I look better irl compared to my pics. Idk maybe bc I take shitty pics of myself.

I do notice as for women they will take like 100 shots of them self and post the best 2. Add a little editing and there you go. Only a few I've met that actually looked like their pics lol

I've learned to swipe left on women who don't post full body pics and all of their shit is angle game.

There was this one time...

Apart from that, they sometimes look worse, usually similar, and sometimes better, but I'm only getting a handful of dates per year so my sample is small.

More than half look either heavier or visibly older than their photos. I remember one date I went on where the woman was probably 50 pounds heavier than her photos. I'm convinced that another woman I met up with was actually a trans-woman. I think she used photos of people who looked similar to her. I was very confused.

Pretty much everyone. It’s not always worse, it’s just different. I think I’ve gotten pretty good at spotting people covering up glaring flaws (mostly things like weight and very bad skin), so I’ve never gotten to the point of meeting someone IRL where they were practically a different person. I can’t be mad cause I look pretty different in photos too.

Now if I meet someone drunk and then see them later? All fucking bets are off at that point.

Can’t think of more than 2 women that looked so vastly different. Usually if they post a pic they do indeed look like that, maybe they have angles that accentuate their looks but only slightly.

Funny enough, I’ve gotten a few reviews that say I look taller in photos than I actually am. Had a few dates where the girl was like “huh, I expected you to be taller tbh”. I did not try to do this either.

When I was OLDing it was probably 50/50 the only thing I took out of it was how good they were at taking selfies and selecting good photod. Those with a big social media presence seemed to have better online photos and looked a little more average in real life. And sometimes I was suprised the other way too.

I think a pretty high percentage of people willfully deceive (maybe 50%+), but you can improve your odds a lot by having standards. After getting burned a few times, I rarely get caught by this now. At least one smiling face pic without sunglasses, and at least one full body pic. If they look like they were taken on an iPhone 1, they probably were taken 10 years ago. It’s crazy how much you can deceive with just face pics. Sometimes it’s just 5 face pics in a row and I’m like ha ha not this time.

Most of the people (almost all men) that I met off apps didn’t look much like their photos. I couldn’t tell it was them, but the photos were old or angles that changed the way the looked in some way

Men don’t take the best photos and they tend to look better in person but I haven’t seen any in person that looks completely off.

I’ve only been catfished once back in 2018. He completely used someone else’s photo which I don’t even know why. He looked fine lol

I would say maybe 25% of the people I met looked different - but many actually did look similar to their pictures, compared to what I keep hearing from other folks. And there was one crazy situation where I was actually very pleasantly surprised that one Tinder match didn’t look like her pics - on the app she was slender and blonde, but in person she was maybe 20-30 lbs heavier. Not good, right? Except that she had a fabulous hourglass figure where all the weight had gone to exactly the right places (think Ashley Graham), with serious tits and ass, and I’m a dude who really likes curves. So I was actually quite thrilled to meet her, and we dated for a good while. (She should have just used updated pics because she was indeed quite attractive, even if she was curvier than she was in the past.)
