This is kind of scary because these same kinds of arguments were used by patriarchal cultures in the past. For example, cutting out women's uteruses because they believed female hormones drove them crazy, sending women to insane asylums when where they got electroshocked, etc. As well as believing that women were like children, and could not be expected to handle anything because of their irrational hormones.

Any woman that asks for a pass because of her hormones either needs to read up on history or admit that she would rather live under traditionalist rule and gender oppression. You cannot have it both ways. You do not get to say women are strong and independent and just as capable as men but then hide behind hormones and say you can't be expected to control yourself because of your gender.

Men have hormonal fluctuations, too, society just doesn't give them a pass to act like complete assholes because of it. There's a lot of evidence that hormones themselves don't even cause the mood swings associated with "PMS," it's a combination of physical discomfort and social conditioning. Even if it is all true, it's still not an excuse to act like a child with zero self-control.

My wife goes insane 3 days out of the month. She has acknowledged it. We try to find a balance between my tolerance and her self control. Sometimes she can't help it and I give her grace. Sometimes I snap because of how she is behaving and she gives me grace.

It's not an excuse. But it is a reality and it must be dealt with using compassion and love like any other relational issue.

My best friends wife, is a wonderful woman. She has four grown children, two boys and two girls. She explained to me one day that she brought her daughters up telling them from the time they were small that a woman’s mood/hormonal issues should never be your husbands problem. If you have trouble dealing with it you see a gynecologist and or a councilor. It’s just something you deal with. It’s OK to tell your husband you don’t feel good etc, but you never let it come between the two of you.
