When a man cheats, it's his fault, typical male. When a female cheats, it's his fault, he wasn't giving her what she needed in the relationship. Lol

"Potentially, women's affairs are more likely to be a result of partner dissatisfaction, and consequently, the affair may be a wake-up call for their partners, leading positive behavioural change"

Ripped this quote straight out of the article.

You couldn't be more right.

[–]pd33833 80 points81 points82 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If my partner cheats, it's a wake-up call for my next relationship. I think some men definitely cheat because they're not getting what they need as well. Not just physically.

Curiously, the married RP sub's basic advice for men is to first work on yourself enough to get to the point where other women take interest in you as a way to get your wife to be a better wife. A lot of them claim being able to put the idea in your wife's head that you could have an affair if you were so inclined was the only thing that worked to light a fire under her ass.

I tried it and it does work. I wish there were kinder ways, but asking nicely only works for a couple weeks. Marriage counseling has an abysmal success rate. There's lots of cultural norms that pressure men to man up, but the risk of an affiar seems like the only thing I'm aware of that can pressure a wife to step it up.

[–]KochiraJin 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I don't think that approach is necessarily unkind. Working on yourself does result in your wife having a more desirable husband. It's not all bad.

[–]WhereProgressIsMade 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

True, thanks for the perspective. She's gotten a better husband after all. For example, I'm in better shape now than when we got married. I don't have any issue with the lower forms. I guess I was thinking of the advice it gives if that doesn't work to start openly flirting with other women in front of your wife for example that seems a bit cruel. But if that's the thing that gets things to click for her and then you can stop doing it, I guess I can see it.

[–]reverbiscrap 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Basic hypergamy in action, along with ego stroking.

He is superior to me, and I do not believe I can get a higher status man

Other women desire him, but can't have him, because he is MINE

Hell, I recognize it in my own wife. Female psychology is simple like that.

[–]WhereProgressIsMade 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Haha yeah. I was trying to figure out things to do with my 14 year old daughter and since she likes dance, I talked her into going out with me to a place that gives a 1 hour dance lesson. She's used to dance line type stuff and not partner dances, so it was new to her. We had fun.

When we got home and my wife asked how it went, her face was priceless when she found out that the place rotates through partners which meant I was dancing with other women and not just my daughter.

[–]reverbiscrap 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just shrug, smile, and give a kiss 🤣

[–]Iceman_Hottie 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The issue is that it works only one way. To get more attention men need to better themselves, whereas for women it's accept the advances. In effect its a type of bandwagon fallacy that women are instinctually more susceptible to.

In terms of couples therapy it only works when both parties want to solve the problems, but usually one partner is fully checked out.

[–]WhereProgressIsMade 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah I can see that in my own experience. I kept hoping that my wife would start spontaneously doing things for me that I like without me having to ask, but that hasn't happened. What has happened though is that before she would say no by coming up with an excuse, but now the excuses are way down and she feels guilty the few times she does turn me down. So overall, it's been a big improvement. Not quite what I was hoping for, but something I can live with.

[–]Iceman_Hottie 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Glad you are doing well.

[–]CurveArtistic 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So it seems it hinges on the fact that female victims don’t make the positive changes to give their male partners a better relationship after the affair, but men go ahead and fix their behaviors

[–]Wafflefanny 97 points98 points99 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

"Men suffer more after cheating" is a funny way of saying "women can punish men for cheating, but men can't punish women for cheating"

Or it could mean

"Men have a stronger moral compass than women and actually feel guilt"

Or any number of other things, but it definitely doesn't mean:

"Women should be free to cheat on their partners because they won't feel bad afterwards so what's the harm?"

[–]rabel111 15 points16 points17 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think its proof of the proposition that men are punished by society for acting poorly, while women are sledged by other women

[–]Magical-Hummus 32 points33 points34 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A psychopath also does not feel bad torturing their victim. Might as well allow him!

[–]Aimless-Nomad 12 points13 points14 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

all true

[–]nucleus2000 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sort of how I interpret it as well, and I say this as a woman. It seems women have less guilt and therefore feel better about cheating. Probably because they have been told by friends and family (and society as a whole) she deserves better etc.

[–]duhhhh 58 points59 points60 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Love the "women who cheated" (with reasons of course) vs "male perpetrators" language throughout the article. Clearly no bias there at all.

[–]el_jefe1978 42 points43 points44 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's why I'm single. If a woman claims to love me, but cheats, she's better and I'm worse? It's like they aren't built for relationships (monogamous one's at least). I don't get it.

[–]PitoWilson85 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why do you think the MGTOW movement came through and it's taking off??.

[–]rabel111 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So fidelity, honesty and fairness/equity, do not impact women's self esteem. While for men, these issues do impact their self esteem.

I think that says it all. Nice study, completely misconstrued by researchers seeking confirmation of their sexist bias, and validation of their lying and cheating.

[–]heeroena 28 points29 points30 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

hahahahha gtfoh. the gaslighting is real

[–]CawlinAlcarz 25 points26 points27 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In the aggregate, men tend to suffer more in family court from "divorce rape", especially if there are children involved. This leads men to tolerate a greater level of dissatisfaction with their wife, and might even make them more likely to tolerate infidelity because the alternative is to seek a divorce, which, because there is not likely to be a "fault" attributed to the divorce, will see the man more likely to take a pounding in family court.

In the aggregate, women tend to suffer significantly less from "divorce rape", especially when there are children involved. All of the above circumstances are exactly the opposite for women: they are less likely to tolerate dissatisfaction with their partner, less likely to tolerate infidelity of their partner, and more likely (by a large margin) to initiate divorce. Women in the aggregate, are decently incentivized by family law adjudication trends to seek divorce.

So... if the consequences for infidelity are less severe for one party than another, which party do you think will report a more positive experience about infidelity?

Lesson for the day for men: the cards are stacked against you in family court. Marriage is a raw deal and you had better be REALLY SURE you want to try to buck the odds if you want a family.

Sometimes the conspiracy theorist in me believes propaganda like these are psyops done in part to divide people based on gender (part of the divide and rule agenda) and in part to reduce the population (the rise of independent unmarried women, also making men the villain will mean more men will end up lonely and not marry out of fear). It’s either that or society is just dumb.

[–]Late-Exit-6844 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not a theory. Your intuition is correct. They said at the Jewish National Congress in 1899 "We will infiltrate their silly headed women and turn them against the men." This was specifically said about the west. You'll note none of this happens outside of white majority countries. It's absolutely to weaken and lessen the population.

[–]Street-Entertainer-21 point 7 months ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That’s exactly what they are using them for. Depopulation and polarization. Box people into groups = they are easier to control

[–]RandomedOne1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

That maybe true. Average women tend to be horrible people, If average men cheated the guilt would just hurt him where as a women tend to be take pride in their horrible behavior like lying and being hypocritical.

There are men who can cheat without conscience getting in the way though, Considering how women act these days those men perfectly justified.

[–]Drakethepirate 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Either way it's always the man who gets all the blame, this proves most female cheaters lack accountability and see themselves as objects to be controlled.

[–]Effective_Alfalfa360[🍰] 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's because a lot of women are taught that their boyfriend or husband is supposed to treat them like a princess and that they should accept nothing less than this kind of treatment. So when a woman is unfaithful to her boyfriend/husband, she can just say that her partner wasn't meeting her impossibly high standards as an excuse and people will blindly blame the guy for it despite that fact.

However, when a guy is unfaithful, even if the reason is that he isn't being given the bare minimum love and appreciation that he deserves, he is treated like absolute scum.

For men, society automatically assumes that he cheated because he is ungrateful for his wife and society calls him a terrible person.for this. For women, society assumes that she cheated because she is ungrateful for her husband but society actually sympathizes with the wife who cheated, and shames the husband.

Let me clarify. I don't think there is an excuse for cheating for either genders, but I think that the reason that a lot of women are happier after cheating and men are sadder is because a woman can cheat on a man and it doesn't matter the reason, there will always be a large community of people who blindly supports her assuming that the man was the problem that led her to cheat. Meanwhile, a man could cheat on a woman and no matter the reason, there will always be a large community of people who are completely relentless at making him feel terrible. We must acknowledge that cheating is wrong for women as well as men and need to stop victim blaming male victims and need to stop praising female abusers.

Love these articles lol if a woman cheats, it's a sign she doesn't truly admire, love, and respect you. Basically the relationship is over. Women will be hoes, but don't want to be hoes. However, if a man cheats, he can still love his wife the same. Men, in general, would love to exercise options and have a wife by their side. We have different mating strategies. Women want quality which is the result of hypergamy. Men want quantity which is the result of hypogamy. Unfortunately, men's dating strategy is demonized. So we get articles like this.

[–]prilexx 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So basically what they saying is, when we call them bitches, we are correct. Just like female dog, as many dicks as possible to make her happy

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Probably shouldn't be further encouraging your self worth by how many people are willing to have sex with you.

[–]Worried-Rent-8714 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What happened to healthy communication and just leaving if you aren't happy? This article calls this research out and I love it https://christophertabet.medium.com/affairs-boost-married-womens-self-esteem-and-life-satisfaction-a-new-study-out-of-the-33b961b2eaf9

[–]CulturalRealist1 point 1 year ago [recovered] | Copy Link

This is a prime example why hypergamy has gone off the rails and cheating is being ENCOURAGED.

How are we men supposed to emotionally invest in this? Plot twist:

We refuse. We see you as sex objects, nothing more.
