TL;DR: disagreement over domestic violence stats leads to my now former friend unilaterally ending our relationship, citing lack of dialog as the reason.

A friend and I were out at a social event and we got talking about the local election. We were having a good discussion as per usual, and then the topic of the "don't be that girl" posters came up because one of the candidates called the creators "cowards". So we discuss the merits (or not) of the posters message as well as the "don't be that girl posters. My friend claimed that they were necessary because domestic violence is mostly perpetrated by men, as are rapes. I disagreed. Then we spent the next 10 minutes looking up competing stats on our phones. After no conclusive/persuasive mutually agreeable results, we dropped the subject and talked about something else.

Fast forward a couple of days and I see an article in the paper about a husband who was murdered by his wife, and the wife had previously been charged and convicted of domestic violence, serving 3 months probation. So I send my friend the article as well as a few of the links from the sidebar about dv studies.

I don't hear from my friend for a couple of days (unusual), and then I get message saying: sending that means you want to be right, and that means you dont want dialog, and if there is no room for dialog, there is no room for friendship. Please don't contact me again.

I was totally shocked and upset. I sent my now apparently former friend a message explaining that I was sending the links in hope of dialog, not in spite of it; that I was hurt; and that I thought it was ironic that she was unilaterally ending our friendship because of a lack of dialog. I haven't heard back since, so I guess it is official, and I deleted them from my contacts.
