As a woman, Mrs. Zimmerman could rely on the fact that greater weight would be given to the charge that her husband assaulted her, as well as the likelihood that a false accusation would bear no consequences for her.

This assumes just as much as assuming he did threaten her so...

The fact that she was accusing George Zimmerman added to this.

added to what her getting the benefit of the doubt? You can't blame her for his reputation

She must be an idiot to think that the truth wouldn't eventually come out however. Didn't she attend to her husband's recent trial?

What does this have to do with anything? I thought MR was about actual consequences of misandry not he said she said bs. The charges were dropped, they were splitting up already. This non-issue of a news story doesn't really change that.

Murder requires that the defendant acted intentionally. Manslaughter requires it be accidental, or unintentional. The prosecution requested that manslaughter be included as a lesser included offense for the jury to consider, the defense raised an objection on the grounds that Zimmerman did intend to reach for and fire his gun, and was protected under self defense laws. Lesser included crimes cannot require proof of an element not included in the greater crime to be considered. The two crimes that they wanted the jury to consider were in conflict, one requiring intent, the other requiring lack thereof, so the objection was upheld by the judge.

In addition, 2nd degree murder requires a state of mind that specifically targeted the victim because of "Ill will or evil intent" which the prosecution attempted to prove by saying the incident was racially motivated, an argument that was debunked throughout the trial.

Actually they didn't use stand your ground as a defense in the case, the only reason why that law was an issue is because they didn't arrest him on the scene because of said law.

"Soon after Mr. Zimmerman was arrested, there appeared to be a chance that the defense would invoke a provision of Florida self-defense law known as Stand Your Ground. Ultimately it was not part of Mr. O’Mara’s courtroom strategy, though it did play a pivotal role immediately after the shooting."

While Zimmerman was an idiot, he isn't "scum", based on his history he actually seems like a decent person. I'm not right wing either, I just actually read the facts of cases and try not to let the media give me bias.

The FACT he hunted down a young boy?

The guy was a seventeen year old wannabe gangster who was larger than Zimmerman. Stop pretending he was a twelve year old.

The fact he was told to remain in his car,

That didn't happen

stalked the boy from yard to yard

He followed someone who appeared to be casing houses in a neighborhood suffering from a rash of break-ins as a member of the community watch.

and then was surprised when the kid defended himself

Ambushing someone and delivering a ground and pound on cement, that is by all accounts of anyone with reasonable experience in combat sports will result in death or permanent disability, that has perpetrated no physical violence towards you does not qualify as "defending yourself."

zimmerman got off on a technicality with stand your ground

If you had paid any attention to the actual trial instead of the sensationalized version played out to garner ratings on the news you would know that the "Stand Your Ground" defense had not been invoked for the Zimmerman trial.

Because it's so poorly written that you can harass someone, and then defend yourself and blame it on them

That is also entirely incorrect. The only thing that law allows you to do is not be demolished in a criminal or civil court over the technicality of having not "adequately" attempted to retreat. It's recognition that turning your back to someone threatening serious physical violence does nothing but leave you in even greater danger. It acknowledges that, as a human being, you have a natural right to defend your life in a situation that is deemed mortally threatening by a reasonable person by any means necessary.
