There are no pros! This isn't that complicated. There is NO rational reason to cut at a baby boy's penis. The biggest risks are death, loss of the organ entirely, deformed penis, loss of function. Without a doubt, loss of function is hardly a risk since that one is an absolute certainty.

But, what the fuck, he's just a boy. It's not like he's important or anything like girls are. (sarcasm)

If she's a Christian she should know there is no biblical basis for is to get circumcised. The only two people mentioned who were circumcised in the new testament were Jesus, who was a Jew, and Timothy to help him proselytize better to local Jews.

Paul writes several verses and passages about the lack of need for tge procedure since it's falsely showing faith and only having faith matters. I can give you some stuff to show or you can search for "bible circumcision" or similar terms yourself.

However I imagine that your sister-in-law probably doesn't have a very theologically sound relationship with christ and probably won't really respond well to facts anyway.

Also no medical reason for the procedure anyway.

Um... here's one, babies are only given lidocaine. Now, when I had my son, I had an epidural, but by the time I had pushed him out, my epidural wore off. At the point of pushing, I had no pain killers in place and had a fourth degree laceration.They only used lidocaine to stitch me up. Well, lidocaine is supposed to make you completely numb, however, I felt everything with the stitching despite seven separate lidocaine shots.

So let her know, that despite lidocaine, he is still going to feel it all, and if she would rather have her lacerations stitched up with an epidural and not lidocaine, then why would she do that to her son? Not only that, if she isn't willing to get her genitals mutilated along with her son, she shouldn't get his mutilated. He is going to be in screaming pain, with an open wound that is going to be sitting in a pee and poop filled diaper to heal. Not only that, he runs the very high risk of a penile adhesion. Where even after a circumcision, a bit of the skin will grow back into place where the foreskin was, and then tear. Makes for another very raw, and open wound.

These are all before the kid is even a year old, let alone at the age of wanting to be sexually active,fully enjoy it, and understand what his body does and doesn't do, as well as give full unbiased consent to have it done or not done.

Pros:

It's a medical procedure, and medical procedures can't possibly be bad, right?
Everyone else does it so shut up and stop complaining!
Makes washing marginally easier, in the same way that amputating ears or toes would.

In my never to be humble opinion, you do not have the right to cut off any part of your child. Unless a procedure is medically required (circumcision isn't) then do not do it. Let the kid make his own choice when he is old enough. That means 18. It is his body, it is his choice.

There's no cause to get it now. The only reason to get a circumcision would be for phimosis, and that could be done prior to hitting puberty on the off chance it happens.

Down side, it really sucks wearing a condom if uncircumcised...

Risks of circumcision include accidental amputation, serious bleeding, and infection.

In the UK, medical routine circumcision is not practiced due to these risks (to be honest mostly bleeding and infection, amputation is quite rare but does happen)

Some number of infants die every year due to circumcision (I don't have a source for this as above, but I understand it is something like 100 US infants)
