That they are both consenting adults who participate in this behavior does not make it acceptable to the rest of us. (Simple test: Would you want your daughter in that tableau?)

generally i agree with the message like cfornax said personal responsibility is a good thing. it just has to aply to everyone OR we need to accept that those who can't be personally responsible are inferior to those who can be. again not the most feminist idea... well plenty toxic feminist idea i guess.

all that said i didn't find anything to suggest that the reporter in this case DOESN'T belive in personal responsibility for women like the titel suggests. and even if it wouldn't suprise me if that was the case that wouldn't excuse the titel.

I could see this case being more of a political move for herself. She was a senior aid to Hilary Clinton and she could possibly be following the same role that her ex-boss did. I don't think it is only to protect her man as the article makes it seem.

While I think it's terrible when anyone cheats on anyone, she may have different reasons to stick around.

I read this totally different. The article is basically calling people to attack the wife for playing the political game. I agree that when someone disgraces themselves like this, they need to grow up and face the consequences head-on. And yeah, the author mentions the term "male politicians" which can be construed as a sexist phrase. But that's the only sexist phrase here. So what is the problem?

That politicians can get away with shit like this and come back even stronger. That we can let some guy call himself "Carlos Danger" and instead of disgracing him for being such an ass, we enable him by treating it as some kind of joke. That's not a gender issue, it's an ethics issue. If a female politician has an affair, we hold her to the same standard (as if that would happen, and THAT is a gender issue), but we need to have some standard to hold them to.

Is Lisa Bloom mentally disabled in some way? I mean, I know she can string letters together to make words, and string words together to make sentences, but as the saying goes "Given enough time, a hypothetical monkey typing at random would, as part of its output, almost surely produce all of Shakespeare's plays". I believe Lisa is that hypothetical monkey. She may seem like she knows what she's doing, but really there's no real thought in her head aside from "fling poop". Is it scummy what Anthony Weiner did? Yes. Should he have considered what it would do to the woman who loves him? Most definitely. Is this scummy behavior abuse in even the loosest definition? No, not unless your aim is to demean people who've been victims of real abuse.

I think that infidelity is in many ways a form of spousal abuse. I don't think we need to create laws to prevent it, but it certainly has a serious and negative affect on the spouse.

That being said, there are definitely some troubling double standards where infidelity is concerned.
