I went with my wife to her Women's Health appointment for her annual check-up, and I had a disburbing conversation with her doctor. I invariably end up speaking to the all of my wife's doctors at the end of the visit, because she is not a native english speaker and I can help answer some of the questions my wife did not understand. She had some questions about our birth control methods, and I let her know we were using condoms until I can get a vasectomy scheduled. Up until this point, we were facing each other and having a normal conversation. After I said that, she literally turned abruptly 90 degrees and addressed my wife exclusively. She told her that she "...was only 27, and most women her age are usually not 100% sure if they are done having kids yet. You may want more children, and vasectomies should be considered irreversable. You should wait a couple years until you are absolutely sure. If you still feel the same way, then get one." It's interesting how she phrased that I think. "Then get one." Since she was not addressing me any longer, I can only assume she is implying that when she is sure, she will LET me get one. I don't know if I'm blowing this out of proportion, but at no time was my desire to stop having kids considered.
