As per the title, I am sat here, in the middle of a lecture on different forms of discrimination within the childhood sector and of course gender comes up.

We have been tasked with approaching organisations which battle different areas of discrimination, my group got given poverty - although I would have much rather have gotten gender.

Lecturer is asking what organisations people have considered approaching, all is going well until we reach gender...

Every. Single. One... Was some sort of feminist / women's refuge type thing. Zero intentions to look at anything male related. I said that a good one could be to interview a leader of a dads group, since dads often feel ostracised in typical baby group settings since it is predominantly female.

I was welcomed by a 10 minute speech on how we are focusing on discriminated groups and women / ethnic minorities are the ONLY groups which experience it. I was told to my face that, in front of the rest of the class that the male perspective was not a part of this discussion...

This is an Early Childhood Studies degree, which is absolutely dominated by a women, less than 2% of the workforce is male. I am the ONLY male on this degree! So I would have thought my perspective would be an invaluable addition, but they just don't fucking care.

Oh, at the end the lecturer also said that I should be careful how I conduct myself and how I write my assignment because both her and the other module leader are feminists and THAT is the perspective from which they will grade our work.

I am so fucking angry, writing this is the only thing stopping me from just walking out this room right now. I refuse to back down on this and I will be writing my assignment from a male perspective regardless, fuck her. I don't even need anything but a pass from this module anyway but how fucking dare she say that kind of thing.

Sorry, really needed to vent.
