My ex wife wanted to stay at home when we started having kids. I said ok. A few years later she started complaining that she was going nuts with the house and the kids. They started kindergarten and she wanted to go back to work, I said ok. She couldn’t find work to basically resume where she was at professionally before she stayed at home, over five years gap, so she had to take a low pay, low level part time, it wasn’t about the money, so she was fine with that. Then she stopped doing my laundry (took my stuff out and did her’s and the kids’). Then she stopped making me dinner (she made dinner, but only for her and the kids). I’m gonna skip through all the usual separation/divorce drama, but you know how the country goes, especially in southern states (where she moved to be closer to her family). She was what you would call a “traditional” woman, but the culture gets to them, too.

She’s deeply insecure and had expectations of me molding myself to her vision. When I put my foot down she attempted to retaliate with the previously mentioned. I held fast and she tried to force my hand with separation and threats of divorce. I said ok to everything her lawyer asked for and that was that. I know now that she was expecting me to freak out and comply. She later attempted to say she didn’t want to, but her family pushed her and that she hoped we could work it out. I just “noped”. As much as my daughters were affected by the split, and one of them is still angry at me almost 8 years after, I think it was best for all (except her) because life together had really become unbearable and the kids were constantly suffering with her extreme moods. I wouldn’t call her a bad person, just that she’d been better off with one of the “yes ma’am, women are god” personalities we see so prevalent in today’s everything. Bad match that I don’t regret only because of my two wonderful daughters.

In my case, I’m not jazzed about housework and most nights I’m pretty okay with cooking.
